Jalon Johnson
Welcome to Not Your Ordinary Parts. This podcast is an outward expression of my deep internal work that I felt compelled to share with anyone willing to listen. What I want to be conveyed most is relatability; I am an everyday guy trying to share the things I've learned on my journey being a flawed human. There will be mistakes, I'll be nervous, I might fumble my words, but maybe, just maybe.... I'll help someone because I was willing to be vulnerable. If you find anything here helpful, please share it.

S2 Episode 4: Making Mental Health Relatable with Jessica Leigh, Ph.D.
Jessica Leigh is a psychotherapist who specializes in pediatric psychology who has a deep love for educating people about mental health through relatable and digestible content. Although very accomplished, Jessica struggles with a lot of the same things we all struggle and that made talking to her very easy because of how relatable she is. Jessica even said, "from the outside it appears that I have it all together, but on the inside, I struggled (and still do) with feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and falling prey to my inner critic." As a Clinical Psychologist & Social Media Content Creator, Jessica makes mental health more accessible and relatable, by integrating her personal experiences and clinical knowledge to destigmatize mental health.

Life can be hard at times and if you’re like me, you may tend to think that you can handle it all on your own. Maybe you’ve done such a good job of “managing for so long” having to do something different or talk to someone can feel uncomfortable. The idea of therapy, to me, felt like I had to admit that there was something wrong with me or that I’d be showing the world that I was broken or didn't have it all together… but when my health started to suffer, and I was anxious 24/7… I realized my body was trying to tell me something was wrong and I learned that there is no “good health” without mental health. Therapy was the answer for me, it helped me put down all of the heavy things that I was carrying that didn’t belong to me. While therapy can provide so much relief, finding a therapist can feel so daunting. BetterHelp, the sponsor of today’s video, has done so much to make finding a therapist and starting therapy so much easier! BetterHelp is the world's largest online therapy platform whose mission is making professional therapy accessible, affordable, and convenient — so anyone who struggles with life's challenges can get help. S2 Episode 2: The Black Therapist with Arron Muller, LCSW
Arron Muller aka "The Black Therapist" is a therapist, licensed social worker, a CEO, a speaker, and a mental health advocate. He's been seen on HBO, Hot97, VH1, Cosmo, Black Enterprise, Fox SOUL, Huff Post, NY1, and News12. In his work with Black Men in Therapy, Arron can identify with microaggressions, being stereotyped, and can align with how trauma in the Black community attributes to anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders. Arron believes that providing a culture where it is okay to say, "I am a black man that struggles with anxiety and depression." Arron makes an impact when working with black families by understanding the nuances, norms, and customs surrounding the struggles they face and can use that to empower and uplift them.
I did things a little different this episode. Instead of my own questions, I asked some of my friends and family if they had any questions that they’d want to ask Arron. The response I got was so much more than expected, and the questions they came up with were so so good! I’m super grateful for the thought and vulnerability that went into these questions and feel more than honored to be able to this!
