Self Care isn't Selfish - Thoughts from Kevin
In the world today, people are running hard and fast, many so focused on taking care of others – be that their children, spouse, clients, teammates, students or their patients – that they aren’t taking the time to take care of themselves. It’s gotten so bad, that I recently read about a nursing school that added a program to their nursing curriculum on the importance of and how to take better care of ourselves. Self care is vital to our health and our success and our ability to have an outward focus and to take care of others. In this episode, I’m sharing some quick tips to help you make it easier for you to take care of yourself. Tweet it out: Self-care isn’t selfish. You can’t give your best to others when you aren’t at your best. @KevinEikenberry From This Episode: Learn more about The Long-Distance Teammate here.

Preparing for the Future of Flexible Work - Thoughts from Kevin
As of today, I cannot predict the future of work – for you or for your business. But I do know one thing. Whatever that future holds, work is going to be different…again. I do not believe we will ever return to work as we knew it in 2019. I predict that we will have an amalgamation of different forms of flexible work. – Some companies will send all of their employees back all at once. – Some will send half now and half later. – Some will allow their employees to choose where they want to work. There will be many options and each organization’s choice will very likely look a little different. So, what can you do now to prepare for the future world of work today? In this episode, I’m providing a few steps that leaders and teammates can take to prepare for flexible work. Tweet it out: Prepare for the future today – even if you don’t know exactly what it will look like (and you don’t). @KevinEikenberry From This Episode: Whether you are a teammate or you are the leader of the team, The Long-Distance Teammate, can help you to prepare for this new future of flexible work. The Case for Continual Practice - Thoughts from Kevin
In January 2014, I recorded the very first episode of Remarkable TV. And the episode below is our 365th episode – we haven’t missed a week since we started! That’s like recording and releasing a video every single day for year. And while that first video doesn’t look so great now (watch it here) – the sound quality wasn’t great, the picture was a bit fuzzy, I might have rambled a little – I know that the continual practice we have done in recording each week since then has helped us to significantly improve. Zig Ziglar said: Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly – until you can learn to do it well. So in today’s episode, I’m sharing four lessons from our 365 RTV episodes. Creating a Culture of Reinvention – Lessons from Netflix with Erin Meyer
Are you one of the 20 million to download the Netflix Culture deck? Whether you did or just looked it up now, you will recognize that Netflix operates at the edge of chaos, or so it seems. Yet, they have been able to re-invent themselves as the environment has shifted and created a company of innovators. Erin Meyer is the co-author of No Rules Rules Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention with Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings. She joins Kevin to talk not only about culture but building a culture of freedom. Netflix encourages all employees to make decisions based on the context and direction of the company. Growing People and Companies Through Change with Stacy Henry
Change is the only constant in life (Heraclitus). If you don’t see, are you paying attention? And if you aren’t changing, well, that is something different. Stacy Henry is the author of Get Rooted! Growing People and Companies Through Change and joins Kevin to discuss change and values. We don’t always get to choose the change (hello pandemic), yet we get to choose our actions and reactions. The way we respond is based on our values. Often, we hold on tight, even though we don’t like the current state, because it is known. It requires us to think differently and move through the change. Only the Lonely - Thoughts from Kevin
In this episode, I’m talking about The Epidemic of Loneliness and what we can do about it. Before the pandemic, there was already an epidemic of loneliness. And while we know that the pandemic will eventually subside, the epidemic may not… In fact, loneliness is becoming a larger and more important issue as more and more employees and organizations go virtual. So if you’re feeling lonely or as though something just isn’t right, here are a few strategies that I hope will help ease this pain. And a small word of caution before you listen to this episode: I am not a doctor. If you have serious concerns for yourself clinically, please see someone. And while you can’t diagnose a friend or colleague, know that my advice here can only go so far. From This Episode: In our newest book, The Long-Distance Teammate, Kevin has created a practical handbook to help remote team members become more effective, connected and engaged while working remotely. Doing Work That Counts with Richard Lee
Do you ever feel like you are putting in the effort yet fall short of expectations? Does your team ever feel that way? So, what can you do? Richard Lee suggests it doesn’t need to be complicated. We just need the right mindset tied to the skillset. Richard is the author of WORK THAT COUNTS: Breaking Down the Barriers to Extraordinary Results. Kevin and Richard discuss three mindsets that create an impact within your organization. These include empowered relationships, align to do the right thing, and collaborate in and across teams. For this to work, both the team leader and team member must work on their relationship and remember it is unique and dynamic. Further, you need to look outside your immediate team and consider the whole to achieve goals.
