Innovating Before You Die - The Phoenix Encounter Method with Sameer Hasija

Why do existing organizations with resources find themselves irrelevant (or no longer in existence), whether through new technology, changes in demographics, competition? Chances are they did not plan for the disruption, which can come from any direction or place, especially where we least expect it. Sameer Hasija is co-author of The Phoenix Encounter Method: Lead Like Your Business Is On Fire. Just like the mythical phoenix that is born again from the ashes, this method requires you to think of your business truly being disrupted (burning to the ground) so you can build it again. Shifting your mindset to create a burning platform, allows you to build a playbook to defend against the attacks (in whatever form they take). This is an on-going process and can take your organization to the next level. This episode is brought to you by… From Manager to Remarkable Leader, Kevin’s Flagship workshop based on his proven leadership model. A New Meeting Metric - Thoughts from Kevin

You’ve likely heard this saying: What gets measured gets done. While it’s an oversimplification, there is a lot of truth in this saying. And interestingly enough, one of the areas where we spend an increasing amount of time is meetings. And do you have any meeting metrics that you are tracking? You likely don’t. And even if you do, in this episode, I am sharing a new meeting metric that you likely aren’t tracking but should be for many reasons. I am also sharing how to implement this simple yet effective metric. From This Episode: This strategy is just one of kind of ideas that we share in my newest book, The Long-Distance Teammate. If you, or a member of your team, is working remotely (and who doesn’t know at least someone who is these days!), you won’t want to miss this powerful book. Learn more and order your copy here.

Transformational Influence with Walt Rakowich

Is it the journey, or is it the destination? The role of a leader is getting to the destination (sales, profits, product development). Walt Rakowich believes the most important part of leadership is the journey and what happens along the way. Walt is the author of TRANSFLUENCE: How to Lead with Transformative Influence in Today’s Climates of Change. Walt and Kevin discuss transformative influence and Walt shares stories about his journey. There is a time and place for leaders to be vulnerable and acknowledge the details their team understands and works through daily. By overcoming fear and pride, we can empower our team and build trust. When leaders recognize they have a transformational influence on their team, they find opportunity, embrace challenges, and make their organizations and communities greater than ever. How You Start and End Your Day - Thoughts from Kevin

One of my all-time favorite Musicals is Fiddler on the Roof, and one of the famous songs from it is Sunrise, Sunset. Here are part of the lyrics: Sunrise, sunset Sunrise, sunset Swiftly fly the years One season following another Laden with happiness and tears The song talks about how our lives are flying by and the older I get, the truer this is. And while each day is still about sunrise, sunset – a daily rhythm – and life is an accumulation of days, I have an important question for you: How do you start and end your days? What it Means to be a Long-Distance Leader with Wayne Turmel

Remote work isn’t new. Technology has allowed organizations to have offices not only on different coasts but in different countries. We have started to work across time zones and cultures. In 2018, Kevin Eikenberry and Wayne Turmel published the Long-Distance Leader and reminded leaders the principles didn’t change, just the location. In March of 2019, there was a huge shift to remote work; much of it unplanned. They found there was a difference between working from home and being a productive remote teammate. Wayne, co-founder of the Remote Leadership Institute, joins Kevin to discuss their latest book, The Long-Distance Teammate: Stay Engaged and Connected While Working Anywhere. There is a difference between being just a team member and a teammate. We need to be more intentional to create connections and take responsibility for our growth. Wayne shares ideas for leaders and discusses some of the challenges we may see in 2021. We are not going back to the way things were. Can We or Should We? - Thoughts from Kevin

Can we? Should we? Both questions are important and the difference between the two is just one small word. But that small word makes a significant difference in how you answer the question. In this episode, I’m helping you to think about this distinction with a few thoughts and maybe a couple of other questions. Tweet it out: Can you do something vs. should you do that thing. Likely you’ll be better served to ask both questions before you decide. @KevinEikenberry From This Episode: If you’d like to receive my daily email and get a short, inspiring message each day, you can learn more and sign up here.
