Our Response In The Dark

When looking at the story of Jesus' birth, we often times only think of the good and miss When we look at the story of Jesus' birth, we often only think of the good and we miss seeing how dark, broken, and scary it truly was for Mary and Joseph. Imagine the unknown and the uncertainty. Imagine how it could weigh them down and bind them in fear and worry. However, in Luke 1:46-55 we see Mary's incredible response while being in the dark. She chooses to lift a song of praise and magnify the Lord in the midst of the uncertainty and waiting. This poses a question for us: How will we respond? Will we choose to complain and worry, or will we lift up song of praise and worship our God in the middle of the darkness?Support the show

Immanuel

"She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us)." Matthew 1:21-23 God with us.  Many times we are faced with unexpected situations in life we never think we'd face. Mary and Joseph's lives were changed when they were chosen to be the parents of the Son of God, Jesus. What did they feel? What did they think? Through the hardest and most unknown seasons, through the darkness moments, God is with us. He is Immanuel, the one who never has left nor will abandon us in the journey. Love came down to dwell among us. To walk among us. To be  Immanuel—God with us. Support the show

A Royal Priesthood

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." Most times, when we think of the word "priesthood", the last thing that comes to mind is ourselves. However, the Word of God teaches us that as followers of Christ, that's exactly what we are. But what makes us "a royal priesthood" and why are we all considered a priest?Support the show

Ambassador

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." It's hard to imagine ourselves as "new" when we have so many things we hold onto from our past. But if Jesus came to make all things "new"—including us—what does that say about who we are and how we should live? Support the show

Free

Are you set free? It sounds like a simple question, but the funny thing about freedom is that it’s something we chase and chase from one degree to the next. It’s exhausting. And somehow, it always feels like we can look to something else and say, “That would give me more freedom.” Christians, freedom is part of our identity. The fight for our truest freedom has been won. So why are we still fighting? Support the show

Adopted | The Bridge Church

It's no question that, as humans, we like to find our identity in things we were never meant to identify with. This year especially, as our lives as we knew them were shaken up, we realized how much we found ourselves in our jobs, our relationships, our finances, our political parties... and the list can go on. But the Bible has something else to say. "Adopted" is one of our truest identities in Christ, and that relationship we have with God cannot be changed, no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in. How does that shape the way we live? Support the show

Our Identity in the Election

Let's call it like it is: November 3rd, 2020 will be chaos. The presidential race will reach its final days, and America will wait in anticipation to see just where the country is headed and with what leader at the forefront. Where should Christians fall in the midst of it? How do we engage in politics? Do we vote Republican, or do we vote Democrat? Do we vote at all? This is an important message for Christians before Election Day. Support the show

Set the Table

Love earnestly. Not moderately. Not when you "feel like it." Not only when it's easy. To love earnestly is a sacrifice, but it's one of our greatest callings—to love people in a way that requires setting aside our differences, our circumstances, and our comfort so that they can feel an earnest love like Jesus'. If you can set a table and open your door, you can be the most powerful version of the church. Support the show

Wreck the Roof

Read the story of Mark 2. Think about the friends of the paralytic. When they couldn't get through the crowd to get to Jesus, they wrecked the roof—literally. It was risky and dangerous… but they saw what Jesus could do and wanted that for their friends too. The beauty of what Christ did for the paralytic was that he went beyond meeting an immediate physical need—he first healed him spiritually. A question to ask this week: Who is a friend that you'd wreck the roof for if it meant they'd know Jesus? Support the show
