In John 14:16-17, Jesus promises, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” As Christians, we’ve been given an incredible gift that dwells in us – The Holy Spirit. However, often times we have diminished and ignored the power of the Spirit of God who lives in us. We’ve stepped into the boat, but have been hesitant to raise the sail. Many times our lives are wonderful and all is perfect. But there are moments when the hardships of life hit us unexpectedly with intensity. In moments like these it feels as if winter has come inside our souls to dwell within us. Anxiety and depression is the pandemic that has been ravaging our communities long before we could remember, and its wrath is nowhere close to diminishing. As our world grows darker and we face more uncertainty, it becomes easier for us to sink into despair. Can things ever get better? We’re living in a world where it looks like things are growing more chaotic day by day—some may say “apocalyptic.” Natural disasters, pandemics, and political disunity have defined the last year for many of us, and all of these things have led us to ask the question, “Are we living in the last days? Is the end upon us?”But maybe we’re asking the wrong question. The Bible tells us that we are living in the last days, so since we are, the real question is: How should we be living?Support the show

Marriage is a complex gift. Whether you've been married or you're just hopeful for it one day, the question still comes to mind: "How do I have a thriving marriage?" What does that mean? Does it mean sticking it out for the long haul? Does it mean making sure that marriage is full of chemistry or happiness?So what does the Bible have to say about marriage—this complex, beautiful gift? The Apostle Paul talks about the role of husbands and wives in Ephesians 5 and it answers some of these difficult questions. Marriage is much more than having a connection or attraction to someone. Marriage, as scripture puts it, is a "mystery" that is profound. Marriage is a sign-post that points back to our Savior, Jesus and His bride, the Church.Support the show

You in five years—who will that be? As we get older, it’s easier to stop asking ourselves that question. We can say our time is past, our choices have been made, and there’s a “next generation” whose turn it is to be challenged with that question. Could it be, though, that it’s a question for us all?In Luke 9:57-62, we are reminded of the cost of discipleship through the words of Jesus.Following Christ means responding to His call immediately despite the season or time we might be in. We must be comfortable with the uncomfortable and believe that He can use us right in the moment we are in. It doesn’t have to be the “you in five years” that chooses to serve God. It can be the you in this very present second. Today is the day to follow after Him.Support the show

What do you think when you hear the word "justice"?Superheroes? Politics? Or maybe oppression?Justice is a weighty word that entails so much more than this.It’s when we love beyond limits and seek the best for others, despite who they might be or come from.In Luke 10, Jesus shares the parable of the Good Samaritan and gives us a clear image of what true justice looks like. True justice costs us, but when we pursue it, we are faithfully responding to the command of Jesus to “go, and do likewise.”How will you respond to this command?Support the show

Living in a virtual world of social isolation, we've become distant to the idea of community. We're okay with doing life by ourselves. Sometimes it just feels easier.However, scripture tells us that we were made to live in community with others.Ephesians 4:15-16 says, "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into Him who is the head, into Christ,  from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love."We need to be plugged into community with other believers because without it, we aren't able to grow, we aren't able to function, and we aren't able to help others. You were made for community. Do you believe in the power of prayer? Is it something that you do once a day, a few times a day, or is it something you only do on a rare occasion? In Luke 11:9-10, Jesus says, “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”Because of the words of Jesus, we know that we can pray boldly to Him, because He listens. Will you choose to ask and seek from Him with confidence today?Support the show

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."The Bible is God's very own words to us. It's supernatural, transformational, and purposeful for every part of life. But if we're honest with ourselves, we often set aside His words and allow other voices to grab a hold of our attention and hearts.
