Gugu Mbatha-Raw in conversation with Scarlett Curtis for International Women's Day.

In celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw MBE joins in conversation with activist and writer Scarlett Curtis. Together these remarkable women dive into their thoughts on feminism, ongoing cultural and global issues, and touch on why Gugu is drawn to roles that start conversations more than others. In November last year, Scarlett was awarded the second annual Changemaker Award for young activists presented by Equality Now, Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE. At the age of 24, she has already published two bestselling books, co-founded the activist collection The Pink Protest as well as being an official UN Women UK Advocate. Gugu started her career in theatre before moving onto the big screen where she now boasts an acommplished record in both TV and cinema from the likes of Black Mirror, Beauty and The Beast and The Morning Show. In 2017 she was appointed MBE for her services to drama. This episode was recorded in London ahead of the release of Gugu's latest empowering film, Misbehaviour, based on Miss Grenada winning the 1970 Miss World competition, a pivotal moment in Women’s History.

“For the bold the bright and the beautiful” - a slogan used for #GucciBeautyNetwork, Alessandro Michele’s first Gucci Makeup lipstick collection. Shot by Martin Parr, the campaign captures the feminine ideals that surround and encapsulate lipstick and flip them, highlighting that authentic beauty lies in imperfection. In this episode, fashion blogger and writer, Susie Lau, interviews the four stars of the campaign. First she meets with three of the models Achok Majak, Mae Lapres and Ellia Sophia in Rome. Together they discuss the challenges of being a model, their own beauty ideals and how they are evolving. Then Susie is joined by the punk singer Dani Miller and musician Jeffertitti on the even of Gucci’s Spring Summer 2020 show in Milan. In celebration of International Day of the Girl, the release of the second CHIME Zine and the launch of CHIME FOR CHANGE’s new campaign #letgirlsdream, four guests join Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue, Lindsay Peoples Wagner, in New York to share their experiences of being youth activists. The episode is filled with the inspiring voices of Sage Dolan-Sandrino, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi. Sage is a Youth Leader, Creative Director of TEAM, and new member of the CHIME FOR CHANGE Advisory Board. Xiuhtezcatl is a Climate Warrior and Youth Director of Earth Guardians – an organisation that trains diverse youth to be leaders in environmental, climate and social justice movements.
