He moved to the Bahamas where he met Denise, another teacher at the private Christian school he was employed at. They have three children and six grandchildren. Michael did his graduate work at Northern Illinois University in biology and Southern Illinois University in molecular biology, where he also worked in fisheries genetics as a research assistant. He has taught both in public and private schools for 25 yrs and has received numerous prestigious state and national teaching awards. Michael has also worked at the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago as an instructor of marine biology and as a curriculum writer.
