Episode 35: 36 Questions to Fall in Love (Part I)

Anddddd....we're back! Season 4, we out here! Returning with an intimate episode where we go through the exercise brought to fame by NY Times Article "The 36 Questions That Lead to Love" by Daniel Jones. The activity is based on psychology studies that explore increasing intimacy between strangers by having them ask each other a specific series of personal questions - three sets of twelve questions, each set more intensely personal than the previous set. The premise is that mutual vulnerability creates connection and closeness. Listen in as we ask each other these personal questions, and share our intimate answers. We're also trying out something new - a segment called "Dear ABG" where we address listener questions. Leave a voicemail with your questions or a shout out to a friend at (213) 262 - 8776. We're excited to be back and can't wait to hear from you! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 34: Reflections & Resolutions

It’s been such an amazing journey of shared stories and building a small ABG/ABB community with y’all. As we near the end of the first month of 2019, we reflect on our 2018 conclusions, touch upon our 2019 resolutions, and cringe/celebrate how we’ve been tracking on those #goals/#aims/#focuses to date. Join us as we talk about our intentions for the rest of the year: our shift in focus towards mental health, being more open to romance, a dry Janet, continuing to support other Asian women in the areas they excel at, becoming a better friend, and plans for ABG next season. We’ve already helped Janet w/ one of her focuses of the year – becoming a yogi! [jk, but she CAN do a free standing headstand now  - WOW!!] We are taking a short break to get them vital juices flowing again to bring new energy and a season full of fresh, kick-ass content for y’all. We’ll continue to stay connected via the Internets. Keep an eye out for MERCH!! And if you’re in the LA area this weekend, hope to see you at our LIVE meet up this Saturday, 2/2 at 18 Social in DTLA!! Episode 32: What They Don't Tell You About Giving Birth

Babies, babies, babies…in the last episode of Season 1 “Episode 12: Labor of Love” we focused on the topic of babies! We fantasized about what it would be like to have children - from pregnancy, to labor, to the process of raising them. But because none of us are actual mothers, this discussion was all hypothetical. Sharing her pregnancy and birthing story for the first time, our good friend Cathy shines light on the blissful moments to the unexpected hardships of being a new mom.  You might know Cathy from her YouTube channel, which boasts over 300,000 subscribers, which she manages in addition to being an x-ray tech, and now, also a new mama! Once you’ve taken a listen, head over to her IG @yeeitscathy for more cute pics of her baby girl, Isla Renee. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 30: Pursuit of Yappiness

What is a "Yappie"? Some would say it's the epitome of the model minority myth. Others would argue there's nothing wrong with it. In today's episode, we'll explore the definition and effects of a "yappie" life with a special guest who has created an entire mini-series around this concept. His name is Philip Wang. He is a writer, director, actor, and he has been running a lil ol’ YouTube channel called Wong Fu Productions, even before the beginning of YouTube! For someone who stumbled deep into ‘the industry’ through his work, Philip has since voluntarily used his platform to push the Asian American agenda forward through his shorts, his social, his outreach, his mentorship, and many other initiatives that have created a wave for positive community change. Moreover, he has spent many nights single handedly guiding the ABG ladies through the ups and downs of editing and producing a podcast, and he is the crux and biggest supporter of what you are hearing today. We hope you enjoy this episode and this ABB as much as we do. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 29: Asian Women - Do We Fit the Stereotypes?

Whether it’s the color of our skin, the job title on our LinkedIn, or the city we answer when someone asks us where we are from, each of these aspects of identity are an opportunity for someone to assume other traits about us. In this episode, we discuss a handful of stereotypes that apply to us as women of Asian descent: from our driving skills to our math skills, our physical strength to our bedroom preferences, and our spending habits (or lack thereof) to our tolerance for alcohol. We also dig into stereotypes associated with each of our professions: fashion, finance, and technology, as well as the neighborhoods we grew up in: San Jose, Boston, and Orange County. Take a listen and let us know if you can relate. What are some stereotypes applied to you, and are they sometimes true? Please excuse the choppiness in the first half of the episode - we had some technical difficulties! Thank you in advance for your understanding! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
