Long Nguyen is on the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team that won the Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent Season 16. Long started his Taekwondo journey in Vietnam with his brothers at the age of 5 in Saigon, Vietnam. Since then, he has been fortunate enough to represent Team USA with his brothers, An and Huy, as National Team Members since 2011. Besides competitive Taekwondo, Long and his brothers  started a Non-Profit Taekwondo Team out of a two car garage in 2004. Fast forward 17 years, Long and five of his athletes are on the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team competing in America’s Got Talent. Ben Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American mixed martial artist and personality. Born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota the mixed martial artist calls Queensland, Australia home. Ben began his professional mixed martial arts career while working during the day as a computer technician. In 2012, Ben took the initiative to transition over to become a full-time athlete and scored a spot on the Tiger Muay Thai scholarship athlete program. Quickly massing a string of wins together, Nguyen concurrently held the Australian Nitro MMA Bantamweight and K-Oz Bantamweight belt. Ranked number one in Australia in his division and a highlight first round knock-out, Ben made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in 2015 going 4-3 with the promotion before signing with RIZIN Fighting Federation which he currently fights for. Jason R. Nguyễn is a dual-doctoral candidate in "Ethnomusicology" and "Communication & Culture" at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is in the final stages of writing his Ph.D. dissertation, which analyzes the identity performances and cultural practices of communities in the Vietnamese diaspora by focusing on three different domains of Vietnamese identity practices: (1) diasporic popular music; (2) Vietnamese American student organizations; and (3) homeland-centric political advocacy groups. Jason is interested in how "being Vietnamese" is never a pre-existing identity but instead an ongoing project that emerges from people's understandings of their affiliations through lenses of race, culture, family, history, etc.   The performance of Vietnamese identity is always "controversial," in the sense that it is constantly embroiled in conflicts, from the intergenerational rifts linked to rapid cultural assimilation in the diaspora to the legacy of mistrust between Vietnam and the diaspora left by the Vietnam War. Claiming that you are Vietnamese is an aspiration, a dream of universal connection to all others who call themselves Vietnamese, but paradoxically, experiencing Vietnamese is always specific to you, your peers, and your community, always at risk of alienating you from those outside your immediate networks. How people perform and negotiate that tension is the root of his work.   Finally, Jason is a life-long musician, beginning with the violin in first grade. Since then, he has studied Vietnamese traditional music for over fifteen years and is well-versed in a variety of genres including “dân ca” folk songs, “cải lương” opera, “ngâm thơ” poetry recitation, etc. His instruments of choice are "đàn bầu" (monochord) and "đàn kìm" (moon-shaped lute). As "SoulGook," he creates music featuring a blend of contemporary hip-hop and pop with Vietnamese traditional instruments.   He has performed and lectured at events including TEDxCincinnati and the MIT Hacking Arts Festival. Nguyễn Thị Minh Ngọc. Sanh năm 1953 tại Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu, đã sống qua Long Xuyên, Phan Thiết, Pleiku, Huế, Sài Gòn, Bismarck, Austin (US). Họ nội gốc Bình Ðịnh, ông nội làm quan ở Huế. Ông ngoại gốc Quảng Nam, vào Phan Thiết, sáng lập Quảng Nam Ðồng Châu Hội tại đây. Cha là Huấn Sự Thú Y. Mẹ ở tù Khám Lớn và căn Bà Rá, Tân Uyên, Sông Bé thời Pháp thuộc. Cả hai đã mất. Học tiểu học tại Pleiku, học trung học tại Phan Thiết, học Đại học tại Huế, Sài Gòn. Nicholas (Nick) Thai Hoang Nguyen serves as the Public Disclosure Officer for the NATO Archives in Brussels, Belgium. Prior to his arrival at NATO in 2009, his professional archives experiences were honed at Library and Archives Canada, first as a film conservator then as a government records archivist. Nick also moonlights in academia through his interests in visual narrative: he has taught undergraduate classes in film studies at Carleton University, and he has also co-translated three major French academic books on comics theory and history into English. His comics-related articles and exhibition reviews have been published in international journals devoted to comics studies. Mailee Jones comes from a basketball family as her father David Jones played professionally in Europe for 11 years and her mother is Vietnamese. She was born in Germany and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Mailee is set to play for the Vietnamese women's national basketball team in 2021. Senator Joe Nguyen was born in White Center, raised in Burien and currently lives in West Seattle. His experiences growing up in an immigrant community as the son of Vietnamese refugees and being raised by a single mother informs much of his service today. He is the chair of Wellspring Family Services’ Associate Board, which works on issues related to family homelessness and is committed to housing 2,000 children and their families in the next two years. Part of the board’s work includes advocacy, and we were able to pass Wellspring’s first bill (HB2861) providing support for trauma-informed care, which was signed by the Governor in the 2018 session. Nguyen is also involved in police relations as a member of the Community Advisory Committee for the Office of Law Enforcement Oversight in King County. His work focuses on building bridges between community and law enforcement to achieve equitable policing. He is a Senior Manager at Microsoft and lives in West Seattle with his wife Tallie, a special education teacher in the Highline Public School District, and their two children, ages 1 and 3.
