Lê Hoàng Nguyên grew up as a proud Republican from Houston, Texas who used his personal funds after the death of George Floyd to put up a Black Lives Matter billboard in the Southwest Area of Houston, Texas (also known as Bellaire or Chinatown) in an effort to support the fight against racism. In the months following his action he faced heavy backlash from his Southwest Houston community, which has the highest concentration of Vietnamese immigrants and is the major hub for Vietnamese businesses. Thái Nguyễn sinh ra tại Mỹ Tho, Việt Nam. Anh học may từ năm 9 tuổi tại trường dạy may của cha mẹ anh. Gia đình di cư đến Hoa Kỳ vào năm 1993 khi Thái 13 tuổi, ở tiểu bang Washington.   Thái Nguyên tốt nghiệp trường phổ thông ở Olympia năm 1999. Anh là thành viên tổ chức lãnh đạo Doanh nghiệp Tương lai của Hoa Kỳ. Sau đó Thái Nguyễn chuyển đến California để theo học tại học viện Thiết kế & Thương mại Thời trang. Thái Nguyễn từng là cộng sự thiết kế cho BCBG Max Azria trước khi thành lập công ty kinh doanh thời trang của riêng mình là Thai Nguyen Atelier.   Trong suốt sự nghiệp của mình, những thiết kế của Thái Nguyễn đã được nhìn thấy trên thảm đỏ dành cho những người nổi tiếng như Kristen Bell, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry và nhiều người khác. Anh chuyên về thiết kế theo yêu cầu. Ngoài loạt phim Say I Do năm 2020 của Netflix, Thái Nguyễn đã làm việc trên Bravo's Launch My Line và RuPaul's Drag Race. Những công ty này đã sản xuất và bán chất độc da cam cho quân đội Mỹ trong Chiến tranh Việt Nam.   Hàng triệu đồng bào Vietnam, trong đó có bà và các con của bà, chịu đựng nhiều bệnh tật và đã qua đời, bởi hậu quả từ chất độc da cam. Dan Vo is the manager of the six-time Grammy award winning rapper, Apl.de.Ap, co-founder of the Black Eyed Peas. He talks about connecting his and Apl’s culture to mainstream entertainment in the next decade. Dan is a former English instructor at Vietnam-German University, a school which stemmed from a joint cooperation between the German and Vietnamese government. His time in Vietnam shaped his outlook to product, manufacturing, branding, and social impact to create a better future. Five years later, Dan and his team spearheaded a project with the Philippines Tourism Department to bring tourists and business leaders to the country. As Chef Tu David Phu sees it, the path to cooking his unique brand of Vietnamese-California cuisine has as much to do with his birthright as his birthplace. Phu is an Oakland, CA-born first generation Vietnamese-American chef whose family hails from the island of Phu Quoc, accredited as the birthplace of fish sauce in Asia. Chef Tu’s family has been producing small-batch artisanal Phu Quoc Fish Sauce, considered Champagne of fish sauces, since 1895. Phu cut his culinary teeth in the kitchens of some of the nation’s top restaurants, including Daniel, Acquerello and Chez Panisse; and across a wide range of cooking cultures - from the American culinary greats to classical European traditions. But it was what he calls “the memory of taste” that pulled him back to his roots: the practices, ingredients, techniques, and flavors of Vietnamese cuisines. Revisiting his favorite childhood dishes, Chef Tu began an in-depth exploration of the cuisine of his mother’s generations-old culinary repertoire.
