88 Why Crickets & Low Sales Are Actually a Messaging Problem
When we’re getting crickets and low sales, most biz owners’ automatic first thought is - I’ll just hire someone to optimize my funnels / write catchy copy / run FB ads. But the real reason you’re getting crickets is NOT because there’s a leak in your funnel. It all comes back to messaging. If you don’t have that dialed in, nothing else is going to work. Even if you hire an assistant to take work off your hands so you can focus on “your zone of genius”. Even if you hire a copywriter to create you an amazing salespage. Even if you hire a publicist to pitch 10 podcasts a month for you. What will happen is: You won’t know what to give the assistant to do -- or they’ll do a lot of work but it won’t move the needle. The copywriter will write generic copy which doesn’t connect with your people (unless she first steps back with you to clarify your message). And if they’re anything like me, none of the podcast hosts will want to book you. On the contrary, when your messaging is dialed in so it’s clear to your audience how you can help them and they value what you do, you’ll draw in people you’re excited to work with who’re also excited to work with you. In this episode, I’m going to dig deeper into why you’re having this messaging problem and help you figure out how to fix it. 85 The Key to Getting Clarity When You’re Pivoting
Years back, I was in the midst of a crisis in my business. I was ready to birth the next evolution of my message and how I worked with people. But I completely stuck on what I was stepping into. Which was making me block new clients left and right. On one side was the logical, expected, SAFE option. On the other side was a focus that felt like a leap - uncomfortable, scary even. I was exhausted from trying to force the message clarity to happen NOW. Because forcing it doesn't work. What did work? That’s what this week’s episode of Unforgettable is all about. Listen for help getting unblocked and generating the clarity that’s been eluding you. Announcements: I have two spots in June for a 1-1 Message Clarity VIP Day. 84 How to Know if It’s Time to Pivot
For months before making my recent pivot in my own messaging, I felt an incongruence in what I was saying and how I was helping people. That’s not to say I didn't LOVE my clients. But I felt this need to be more in my heart. Felt like when I spoke on stages, I was no longer moving people. And one of the outcomes of this knowingness that something needed to shift was me blocking new clients from signing up. Which is no bueno when running a real business. In this episode, I’ll share with you how to know if it’s time to pivot your message or niche so you don’t remain stuck in limbo. Announcements: I have one spot left in June for a 1-1 Message Clarity VIP Day. 82 Align What You’re Good At with What People Want with Steph Crowder
There was a time (pretty recently!) that I compared myself to biz friends who were rocking “strategies” and focusing on fine-tuning conversion rates. And when I found myself deep in comparisonitis, I had a wake up call. That’s not me, it’s not my strength. I’m all about the individual people. And transformation. And ideas that turn into core messages. Thing is that being strategic is more about being intentional than about using step-by-step formulas. That’s why I’m so excited to share with you the convo I had with Steph Crowder. You may know her as being one third of the Fizzle show or from her own podcast Courage + Clarity. In our convo, we talk about why the fear of niching is real (and bogus), why women building businesses need equal parts inspiration and instruction, and how she found her core message branching off of Fizzle and then built a successful brand around it in ONE year. Two things I love about her: her use of the word “ruthless” and her whip-smart analogies. You’ll see. ;) Announcements: I have one spot left in May for a 1-1 Message Clarity VIP Day. Keep listening, and you’ll learn: How to use curiosity to recreate that “I didn’t set out to create this business, it just happened” phenomenon Why heading towards what’s working and you’re excited about is smarter than being “strategic” and plugging in something that’s supposed to work from the get-go What different approaches led to a freebie that flopped and one that skyrocketed growth of her email list The difference between days you feel super-productive and others you got “a lot” done but wasted your day Links from the Episode Steph interviewed me on her show! 81 How I Use 5-Day Challenges to Nurture Relationships
I’ve listened to other challenge recap episodes where podcasters talk about their numbers and stats and conversions for challenges. This isn’t that show. Don’t get me wrong, I love those accounts and find them fascinating. But what I’ve learned by running 6 challenges over the last few years is that when you’re a coach, each connection you make with each individual person matters. For me, it’s not about the numbers. I’m not in the business of marketing. I’m in the business of transformation. And I’m betting you are too. That’s why, in this new episode, I take you behind the scenes and share: How I nurture people and relationships through my challenges My process to facilitate mini-transformations over the course of a week How I craft the “user experience” as people move through my challenges My top three principles for showing up in service (that naturally lead to clients) Announcements: I have one spot left in May for a 1-1 VIP Day Intensive if you’re ready to unlock clarity on your message, where you’re stuck, or what you’re pivoting into so you can hit the ground running immediately. 80 Why My Dream of Van Life Will Help You Get Clarity
It all started with a love of tiny homes and exploring the world. Then Steve somehow found van life -- think converted tiny homes on wheels with gorgeous Instagram accounts of 40,000 followers, not unwashed beach bums. ;) Then I started to get into it too. With flashbacks to the freedom and exhilaration I felt on the 2 ½ month, 8,000 mile road trip I took across North America when I started my business 5 years ago. So together we started dreaming into what it would be like, how we’d lay out our van, started training Lexi to be fab off leash and taking her everywhere in the car… And I noticed that it felt really ENERGIZING to dream into this possible future. Where there was burnout at the start of the year, ideas and clarity began to seep in. This episode is for you if you’re feeling stuck, burnt out, or lacking clarity on which direction to go. Because it’s hard to have clarity when you’re not doing things that excite you. 79 How to “Be Yourself” as a Personal Brand
You’ve heard the advice… the most powerful personal brands are people who show up as themselves. But what does “just be yourself” even mean? I’m an avid hiker and a dobie mama so I talk about the backpacking trip to Havasu Falls I’m prepping for (this weekend already – squee!) and share pics of Lexi curled at my feet while I work in my office. Maybe you’ve tried infusing elements of your personal life into your brand – I like red wine so maybe I should have a ‘Wine with Melissa’ video show! Or you’ve tried forcing yourself to be upbeat and fun on camera. But you have a sense you’re not quite getting it. There’s something off – like a news anchor with a pasted on smile. In this episode I share with you a few of the exercises I use with clients to get clarity on when you’re in your element and how to start naturally showing up as yourself in your personal brand. Announcements: If you haven’t grabbed my ‘talk about your biz’ toolkit to remove the barriers that stop ideal clients from saying YES yet, get it here. What’s been your experience trying to “be yourself” in your brand? Head over to the Unforgettable community and share it. Warmth, Adria P.S. Next episode I’m talking about my dream of moving into a van… and why it will help you get clients. :~)
