"The Pale Blue Eye," tells an origin story of sorts for one of the world's most renowned authors, Edgar Allen Poe. Played by Harry Melling, the young military cadet in 1830 West Point, New York, is called upon to help a veteran detective (Christian Bale) solve a series of grizzly and inexplicable murders. Director/Writer Scott Cooper may love continuing to work with Christian Bale, but he has no interest in repeating himself as he tells a gothic thriller with a few surprising twists and turns. As the catalyst for the #MeToo movement, which sent shockwaves throughout every industry, director Maria Schrader's film follows the two New York Times journalists who uncovered years of abuse and sexual assault committed by disgraced and convicted former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Today we're reviewing the latest film from Academy Award-nominee Noah Baumbach ("Marriage Story") as he adapts someone else's material for the first time, Don DeLillo's "White Noise." Starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Jodie Turner-Smith, André L. Benjamin & Lars Eidinger, the film is a satire of America in the 1980s with a stylistic flourish from Noah Baumbach unlike any we've ever seen from him before. The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it received mixed to positive reviews for its performances, music, tone, and complex adaptation by Baumbach. The film is now streaming on Netflix and is garnering an even more mixed response but what did are think of it, though? Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Tobias Lindholm's "The Good Nurse." "Alice, Darling" had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is now being released in Los Angeles with a 2022 awards qualifying run before expanding into AMC Theaters nationwide on January 20th, 2023. The film features one of Academy Award-nominee Anna Kendrick's best performances to date as a woman looking to spend time with her closest friends on a weekend vacation but cannot escape her psychologically abusive boyfriend. Anna was kind enough to spend some time with us talking about her role in the film in preparation for its screening at this year's Palm Springs Film Festival.
