You Are Not Broken
Kelly Casperson, MD
Empowering women (and the partners who love them) to live their best mid lives. Combining the power of mind-work, body-science and relationships, I joyously smash the societal barriers that are keeping us from living our best intimate lives. Whether you are young or past menopause, single or in a long-term relationship, it is never too late or too early to realize YOU ARE NOT BROKEN. With humor, candor and ease, I break down the stories that we have been told about being sexual beings, to help us play, and normalize our intimacy and health. Nothing in this podcast is personal medical advice, of course.

129. Hit Play Not Pause - Menopause and Sex
Check me out being interviewed for the amazing "Hit Play Not Pause" podcast with Selene Yeager!
Your brain is your largest–and arguably your most important–sex organ. It’s also the most overlooked, especially during the menopausal transition when we spend a whole lot of time talking about our vaginas (which are important, too, of course!). I am her guest and we talk about all of it in a show that drives home the mind-vagina connection during menopause and midlife.

Sexual Agency and How to Communicate Better with Dr. Juliana Hauser
Dr. Juliana is a relationship and sex expert with a PhD in Counseling Education; a background in teaching gender studies and therapists at the graduate level; a licensed marriage and family / professional and practicing counselor herself.
She says sex is the final chapter in personal development – I could not agree more!
We learn how to talk, but rarely learn how to listen to feedback - that and more in this wonderful episode.
Our sexuality is so much more than what we were taught. It is so much more than our sex acts.
How does sex relate to everything else in your life?
Let’s talk about sexual agency.
The power of having your own back.
Let’s talk about consent in a marriage and/or a long term relationship – a woman has sex with the partner because he wants to, but she really doesn’t want to and just goes through the moves –
- Is this consent?
- Is she damaging her “desire” or rewiring her brain when she just goes through the motions?
- “It’s okay because it has always been okay is not good enough”
How to receive communication – how to feel safe – we do a fun role play! How to have a conversation about sexual wants. There is always something underneath the ask.

The Topic Formally Known as "sex-ed" - oh, and squirting - with Dr. Teresa Wood
Beta Testing! Reflect on how this Podcast applies to your day-to-day and earn AMA PRA Category 1 CMEs here: https://earnc.me/dMybKs
The topic formally known as Sex-ED
Dr. Teresa Wood trained in Philosophy, she has always been interested in the ways in which science and belief are applied to our bodies, our wellness, our sexuality and our education.
For years thereafter, she used her stage presence, her poetry and her humorous teaching style to help her audience unlearn the old-school Sex Education that created fear and shame in place of respectful sexuality. Her pleasure positive Sexy Seminars replaced Sex-Ed with awareness, empowerment, and access to healthy hotness within relationships.
In 2006, she earned a Medical Doctorate and pursued her interest in Sexual Medicine. She continues to write and work in BC, Canada as a physician, and a Sex/Intimacy & Relationship Coach, revamping the topic formerly known as Sex-Ed.
I love this bio! I just heard sex ed called “preventative reproduction” – it really isn’t sex ed at all is it?
“You get a fair bit of education from silence” – Dr. Wood
“Loss of foreplay is loss of sex for women” – Dr. Wood
She describes low libido as low dopamine in the nucleus accumbens. They are not being rewarded for the sex they are having (because it isn’t satisfying and not releasing dopamine).
““de-goal-ing” penetrative sex is the goal” – Dr. Wood
Female Ejaculation - some people have it and some people don’t – both are okay.
“We don’t care if it is pee, we care if it is glee!” – Dr. Wood

Breathing for Better Sex
Chronic stress is the underlying reason for seeing a primary care doctor. Chronic stress makes you live a shorter life. Chronic stress kills your libido and sex life. I talk with Dr. Robyn Tiger, certified in yoga therapy, meditation and life coaching with specialty certification in trauma. With stress, anxiety, depression and burnout on the rise, and having personally lost 3 medical colleagues to suicide, she is deeply passionate about sharing what she learned with as many people as she can. How to get “that loving feeling” back. Learn about your stress response and how to regulate it and drop into the parasympathetic system (the relaxation response). We need to put the brake pedal on and learn how to do it. She breaks it down for the skeptics. Quick things you can do in 15 minutes. If having a good sex life isn’t good enough, do you want to live longer? How to switch from sympathetic to parasympathetic – ie: from crazy day to wonderful intimacy https://www.stressfreemd.net/ https://www.instagram.com/stressfreemd

The Sweetness of Venus - A History of the Clitoris
Today I am lucky enough to interview Sarah Chadwick, author of “The Sweetness of Venus”.
She is passionate about sex equality, gender studies, humor and learning.
Her book is dedicated to: “This book is for all those who have a clitoris, or the opportunity to engage with one.”
Why she wrote this book!
You talk about how the clitoris is lost and found and lost and found throughout documented history.
“17th-century under-the-table narrative about sex has a strong emphasis on mutual pleasure that is noticeably lacking in many of today’s sex-ed books and in too many sex-ed classes.”
Why don’t we tell girls and boys about this aspect of a woman’s anatomy?
We discuss the female condition of being frigid – now we have a medical disorder if we don’t orgasm with PIV sex.
In 1994 U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders suggested sex should be mentioned as safe and healthy in school curricula. In answer to a question at the UN Conference on AIDS as to whether she thought teaching about masturbation in schools might reduce unsafe sex, she replied: “I think that is something that is part of human sexuality and it’s part of something that should perhaps be taught. But we’ve not even taught our children the very basics.” She was forced to resign by Bill Clinton as a consequence.”
1966 – The sexually adequate female “Frank S. Caprio, M.D., recommends “psychiatric assistance” for any woman who prefers clitoral stimulation to other forms of sexual activity. ”
How did views about female morality come to be bound up with women’s sexuality?
How is sharing this on social media going? Are we allowed to say clitoris?
Can you talk about the American versus UK approach to menopause care?
Our emphasis on “natural” and the pressure to be “natural”
