Long time listeners of the show will know that I have a book coming out called Employee to Entrepreneur: How to Earn Your Freedom and Do Work That Matters. The book is scheduled to hit bookstores globally on January 9 through Wiley. Mick Wall is an author, journalist, film, television and radio writer-producer, who’s worked inside the music industry for over 35 years. He is widely considered to be to music journalism what Keith Richards is to guitar. Since cutting his teeth for rock magazine Sounds in 1976, Wall went on to work for the likes of Kerrang!, Rolling Stone, Playboy, Mojo and Classic Rock magazine. He has also hosted various TV and radio programmes and co-produced several TV documentaries for the BBC, including When Albums Rules The World. Mostly, though, Wall is now best-known as a biographer and author. He has published numerous bestsellers which draw from his time on the road with bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns n Roses, Metallica, Motorhead, Iron Maiden and many more. His latest book is a fully revised edition of When Giants Walked the Earth: 50 years of Led Zeppelin, released to mark the 50th anniversary of the formation of Led Zeppelin — and the 10th anniversary of this their most widely acclaimed definitive biography. I just had the honour of interviewing the one and only Mick Wall, who is to music journalism what Keith Richards is to guitar. He has worked with everyone from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to Guns n Roses and Bon Jovi. During our conversation, I enquired about his own success as well as the success of the bands that he covered. What drove them to greatness? What drove Black Sabbath’s guitar player, Tony Iommi, to create his own fingertips after slicing them off under a sheet metal press in a factory in the early 70s? What drove Def Leppard drummer, Rick Allen, to learn to play the drums all over again - with his feet, after losing an arm in a car accident? Moresh Kokane is the founder of real estate crowdfunding company Estate Baron and co-founder of next-generation distributed share registry, Konkrete. The annual letter, which Bezos has published every year since 1997, is widely considered a must-read by business professionals for its rich detail around the Amazon CEO's management principle and long-term thinking. Humans beings are an interesting bunch. What we yearn for one day, we take for granted the next. Over the past one hundred years, we’ve learned to take electricity, running water, healthcare and the fact that we have an abundance of food that comes from all corners of the globe for granted. We have a tendency to normalise any positive experience after repeat exposure to it, eventually nullifying it. We find ourselves bored with what once filled us with joy and seek out longer, more intense experiences, forever ‘chasing the dragon’ and that high of the first time.
