Episode #299: How to Build Authority and Systemize Your Business with Matt Wolfe and Joe Fier

Welcome back to Future Squared for a special mid-week double trouble episode, as I bring you not one, but two guests.   Joe Fier is a creative who came to the table with a video editing turned outsourcing business. He’s damn good at creating custom marketing roadmaps to skyrocket client sales results. Matt Wolfe is a systems and tech optimization guy who is a fanatic about content repurposing strategies. He’s famous for SEO, data analysis, split-testing and conversion optimization. Together, they are the founders of Evergreen Profits, which they’re building to become the largest online content marketing platform this side of Neil Patel. They also host the popular Hustle & Flowchart podcast, which I was fortunate enough to appear on just last week.   I’ve enjoyed getting to know both Matt and Joe and had a lot of fun geeking out with them about all sorts of topics, including: What the secret to their enduring business relationship is (they’ve worked together for more than 10 years) How the guys go about systemitizing their business so that they can focus on what they call their zones of genius; and How to build authority in a particular domain when you’re starting from ground zero --- Employee to Entrepreneur podcast on Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/employeetoentrepreneurpodcast  Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts @ goo.gl/sMnEa0   Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud  Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski  Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski   Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz   Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com   Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski   NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast. Episode #296: Jason Fried on Why It Doesn’t Have to Be Crazy at Work

Jason Fried thinks deeply about collaboration, productivity and the nature of work. He's the co-founder of project management platform Basecamp. Founded in 1999, Basecamp has been recognised by Forbes as one of America’s best small businesses. His 2010 TED talk on ‘Why Work Doesn’t Happen At Work’ has been viewed over 5 million times. He’s also the co-author of Rework, which is about new ways to conceptualize working and creating, as well as the brand new ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be Crazy At Work’, in which he rejects the prevailing notion that long hours, aggressive hustle, and "whatever it takes" are required to run a successful business today. The Economist called the book funny, well-written and iconoclastic and by far the best thing on management published this year. As somebody who shares many of Jason’s philosophies on work, I really enjoyed this conversation. Organisations are projected to invest US$2T into digital transformation by 2022 to make them more efficient, but they could reap what I would argue are vastly greater rewards, not only in terms of productivity but in terms of employee wellness, if they just changed the way they work today. Jason and I unpacked many lessons on productivity from his book, including: Why is everybody ‘so, so busy’? Why more people doesn’t mean faster or better outcomes; and A handful of simple changes that you can make today to radically increase your productivity and enjoyment of work and life With that, I bring you the one and only, Jason Fried. Topics Discussed: Why being busy has become a badge of honour The dangers of not getting enough sleep The peril of managers and meetings Brook’s Law Why 80 hour work weeks aren’t spent actually working Facilitating outcomes with a remotely distributed team Jason’s notion of a ‘calm company’ Why Basecamp has rejected hundreds of offers from venture capitalists and investors Why raising capital shouldn’t be conflated with success for startups Setting realistic deadlines So-called perks that are designed to keep people in the office How to defend your time Commitment, not consensus Using work as an excuse not to live Overcollaboration in the workplace Outsourcing accountability and blame How to say no Jason’s rituals and routines Show Notes: Basecamp.com (project and team communications software) Get the book: https://www.amazon.com/Doesnt-Have-Be-Crazy-Work/dp/0062874780 Twitter: @jasonfried Medium: @jasonfried Jason’s TED Talk:  https://www.ted.com/talks/jason_fried_why_work_doesn_t_happen_at_work?language=en Why We Sleep book: https://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Sleep-Unlocking-Dreams/dp/1501144316  --- Employee to Entrepreneur podcast on Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/employeetoentrepreneurpodcast  Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts @ goo.gl/sMnEa0   Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud  Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski  Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski   Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz   Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com   Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski   NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Why leadership isn’t about having all the answers How to focus on the most important things Radical transparency: good or bad? Staying the course v deluding yourself: how to navigate the delicate balance Contributor track v management: why management isn’t for everyone and what to do instead Procrastinating on difficult conversations Why soft skills differentiate successful leaders from the rest The four Cs of great leadership The Big Arrow model The power of vulnerability Making decisions without all of the information Projecting confidence without all of the answers Influencing others without official authority The value of decentralised control   Show Notes: Get Peter’s boks: https://www.amazon.com/Peter-Bregman/e/B002BMD8SQ/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1541547659&sr=8-2-ent Website: Bregmanpartners.com Bregman Leadership Podcast: https://bregmanpartners.com/resources/podcast/ Twitter: @peterbregman Big Arrow Model: http://bregmanpartners.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/BigArrowStrategyGuide.pdf ---   Employee to Entrepreneur podcast on Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/employeetoentrepreneurpodcast Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts @ goo.gl/sMnEa0  Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski  Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski  Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz  Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski  NEW Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack Hosted on Acast. Episode #293: How to Do Twice as Much in Half the Time

Almost every successful person I speak to says that focus is one of the key ingredients to their success, not only the entrepreneurial domain but almost any domain you could care to mention. As Warren Buffett put it, "the difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything." And I agree, wholeheartedly. However this doesn't mean you can't excel at more than one thing.  --- Employee to Entrepreneur podcast on Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/employeetoentrepreneurpodcast  Listen to Future Squared on Apple Podcasts @ goo.gl/sMnEa0  Also available on: Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Stitcher and Soundcloud Twitter: www.twitter.com/steveglaveski  Instagram: www.instagram.com/@thesteveglaveski  Future Squared: www.futuresquared.xyz  Steve Glaveski: www.steveglaveski.com  Medium: www.medium.com/@steveglaveski  NEW Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ GET COACHED BY LUCAS: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/coaching GET LUCAS TO DESIGN YOUR SUPPLEMENT PROTOCOL: https://www.ergogenic.health/product/custom-stack   Hosted on Acast.
