The Light of Things Hoped For...

"U.S.S. Gloria, this is Mission Control, do you copy?" "Houston, this is the U.S.S. Gloria, good to hear your voice We are coming out of the eclipse now I see the sunlight, it's beautiful The sunlight is beautiful" Jesus Christ, light of the world, You never did forget me. And when I bled in darkness, You held me, still held me. When desperate nights I cursed You, You loved me, still loved me. Jesus Christ, You dry the tears, You break my heart of stone. Your words are life cut marrow through the darkness to the bone A heart of flesh You gave me; Only You can save me. Savior! Daylight! Watch carefully, for everything passes quickly, even though your impatience makes doubtful what is certain, and turns a very short time into a long one. Dream that the more you struggle, the more you prove the love that you bear your God, and the more you will rejoice one day with your Beloved, in a happiness and rapture that can never end.95 Quote by Alan Jacobs: “In a lovely book called On Hope, Josef Pieper e...” — “In a lovely book called On Hope, Josef Pieper explores Thomas Aquinas' theology of hope along these lines: the hopeful person is by definition a wayfarer (viator), because the virtue of hope lies midway between the two vices of despair (desperatio) and presumption (praesumptio). What despairing persons and presumptuous persons have in common is that they aren't going anywhere, they are fixed in place: the despairing because they don't think there's anywhere to go, the presumptuous because they think they have reached the pinnacle of achievement.” ― Alan Jacobs, The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of DistractionJulien Baker - Appointments (Lyric video) — Julien Baker - Appointments The Light of Things Hoped For - Wikipedia — The Light of Things Hoped For chronicles the crew of the U.S.S. Gloria (Roper, Culp, Hoerig, Verdecchio) as they continue their study of the moons of Saturn. As the album begins, the crew has just received the command from Mission Control to return home. The mood quickly changes, however, as complications arise. Gases are emitted from the Gloria, sending the ship careening into the eclipse of Titan, Saturn's largest moon. Communications cut out, and all seems to be lost. The crew reflects on what had happened and what they had lost, drawing the comparison of being away from the light of Christ. The album ends in a series of radio transmissions between the Gloria and Mission Control, and the U.S.S. Gloria emerges from the shadow of Titan and into the light, once again drawing the comparison between the Sun and Christ and the light He brings. Wherefore a gloss on Proverbs 24:10, "If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished," says: "Nothing is more hateful than despair, for the man that has it loses his constancy both in the every day toils of this life, and, what is worse, in the battle of faith." And Isidore says (De Sum. Bono ii, 14): "To commit a crime is to kill the soul, but to despair is to fall into hell." SUMMA THEOLOGIAE: Presumption (Secunda Secundae Partis, Q. 21) — But as to the hope whereby a man relies on the power of God, there may be presumption through immoderation, in the fact that a man tends to some good as though it were possible by the power and mercy of God, whereas it is not possible, for instance, if a man hope to obtain pardon without repenting, or glory without merits. This presumption is, properly, the sin against the Holy Ghost, because, to wit, by presuming thus a man removes or despises the assistance of the Holy Spirit, whereby he is withdrawn from sin.

Sin as Micro-dosing Divinity

Saturday: Last full day of school, if Luke can get his paper done today. Tension in a program like this that is executive, and nature of time crunch, you are constantly forced to prioritize how much time and attention to give each individual task. Tension in Luke’s cohort: Luke loves intensity of the schedule- Meeting after meeting, decision after decision, restraint after restraint- but the others are upset that it’s too intense and things are getting lost in the shuffle. But that’s the point. You’re becoming a better non-profit executive, not an expert, researcher, or professor. You just need the ground under your feet. Gomer bought a minivan for cash after telling his wife “We aren’t getting a minivan today.” He didn’t even pull out of the parking lot yet before he made the decision. It checked the boxes and was inexpensive enough. Gomer likes talking shit about people. Why? You are called to be a tiny god, but you aren’t acting like it, so you stomp on others to fake elevate yourself. A micro-dose of divinity. Sin as false-theosis, self-divinization is always pulling God down to our level, whereas divine filiation is God lifting us up to His level, as it were. The goal is to feel more than human, but I cannot do that for myself, so I have to bring down other humans. Yet, to be “more than human” in reality is to be humble, realizing that you can’t make yourself more than human on your own, you need God to do that. But why work? Why asceticism and mortification? If I have free will, where does God’s grace come in? The hypostatic union is the only answer! Also, the woman who cut my hair was flawless. She was dead quiet. Never small talked with me once other than “do you want what you got last time.” And that was it. Once she hummed along with the song for like 15 seconds but that was more pleasant than disruptive. Six Types of Working Genius and Ministry

The Working Genius Podcast by Patrick Lencioni. IDEATION Wonder Invention ACTIVATION Discernment Galvanizing IMPLEMENTATION Enablement Tenacity Notes -Luke killed a mouse, Gomer’s wife killed a scorpion, while Gomer was naked -Take Gomer to the Woodshed: Nonviolence and the violence in protests follow-up Gomer D.I.S.C. profile for staff, majority of which were “Stability” but the YM were “Innovative.” The YM is where you find the creatives and the envelope-pushers, but the rest of staff had the Stable personality, and so they hate change as a part of their personality. So you have a real reason why no one paints the walls or puts up beautiful artwork or challenges the status quo. Luke's experience of the “Catholic Creatives” working group where the culture screamed: New things are respected (and expected)! Remember, each of the six types of working genius are verbs, it’s who you are and what you do. This idea of the verb really opened Luke to the process of the Working Genius as a process. Looking at these different approaches, however, really helped Luke see where he was strongest and weakest, where my strengths were, and also how Catching Foxes came together. Also, we both suck at Tenacity! (thanks for keeping us alive, Kate.) A few examples: **Discernment: **Sometimes the hyper-spiritualizing of “all things” leads to false action. We think “God put this on my heart” but that doesn’t mean we don’t think through the problems, or MAYBE that's just our way of smuggling in our ideas in a religious context. I mean, who's going to question God's will for your ministry?! Galvanizing: We forget that we aren’t just speaking to the people in the pews, but to the staff! We need to galvanize the staff, inspire them, and move them. We need to minister to their needs in a way that gets them involved in a mission. Enablement: No more victims of unvoiced expectations, or worse, shifting unvoiced expectations! Enablement is not the same as letting someone do their job description, but training, working with, feedback, coaching, etc. Help them do the right thing- connect and cooperate. -Luke and I both suck at Tenacity! Is Patrick Lencioni correct with the… | by Louie Rahil, MBA | ILLUMINATION | Medium — All of these six types of working genius are required to get things done in any company. None of us are good at all of them, and everyone is good at least two. In this article, I’m going to introduce you to the Six Working Genius Tool. The 6 Types of Working Genius w/ Patrick Lencioni - EntreLeadership Interview — The 6 Types of Working Genius w/ Patrick LencioniPatrick Lencioni - The 6 Types Of Working Genius | The Learning leader Show w/ Ryan Hawk - YouTube — What is a "Working Genius?” – There are 6 different types, and we all have two of them that are natural to us, that we're good at doing them, and we get energy, joy, and satisfaction from them. What about the other 4 areas? – 2 of them are Working Frustrations that drain us of our energy and passion, and in many cases, we’re not very good at them; and 2 other areas that are in between called Working Competencies, areas that we can do pretty well, maybe even really well, but that don’t necessarily give us energy or joy.Home | The 6 Types of Working Genius — Far too many people in the world suffer needlessly because they don't understand their personal areas of working genius. As a result, they don't do the kind of work that gives them joy and energy, and they end up in jobs and projects that are draining and demoralizing. This is a grave tragedy on two levels. First, it leads those people to lose confidence in themselves and enthusiasm for life, which is devastating for them, their families and friends, and society as a whole. That alone is heartbreaking. Second, organizations and teams–even families–that don't tap into the true genius of their members can't come close to realizing their potential. They are left puzzled by their inability to achieve their goals. This often leads them to make inaccurate and hurtful judgements about one another, and to feel unnecessarily guilty about their own shortcomings. What makes all of this particularly tragic is that it is avoidable. The solution is for everyone–employees, managers, students and spouses–to identify their areas of working genius, as well as their areas of life-draining weakness, and to put themselves in a position to tap into their genius more and engage in their weakness less. That is what this assessment is all about.‎The Working Genius Podcast with Patrick Lencioni on Apple Podcasts — What is your Working Genius? In fact, the Church has, with good reason, always reserved to herself the right to pass judgment upon the arts, deciding which of the works of artists are in accordance with faith, piety, and cherished traditional laws, and thereby fitted for sacred use. The Church has been particularly careful to see that sacred furnishings should worthily and beautifully serve the dignity of worship, and has admitted changes in materials, style, or ornamentation prompted by the progress of the technical arts with the passage of time. Wherefore it has pleased the Fathers to issue the following decrees on these matters.

Namely, that the retrieval of some concept of the massa damnata is so important to traditionalists that they are willing to eviscerate, and then to draw and quarter, even orthodox theologians of great stature who they deem to be too soft on the question.
