#19: Ryan & Ray (Local Box) - Community Health & Calgary Products

This episode we are joined by Ryan Morstad and Ray Shivji - Co founders of Local Box - a company that collects products made in Calgary and packages them into a single box for customers to purchase. In simple terms, it is a box filled with high quality "made in Calgary" products, started after COVID-19 forced everyone inside, and only essential services continued to operate. Ryan & Ray knew that bigger companies would recover after COVID-19, but smaller companies that count on foot traffic, word of mouth and sales would ultimately suffer- hence the Local Box was created as a way to support small Calgary business' during this time. Also, Local Box contributes a large portion of their profits to the Alex Community Health Centre- a housing and foods program that supports vulnerable people with issues such as poverty, trauma, homelessness and addiction.We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee  and talked about the origins of Local Box, backwards government EI policies,  good business books/podcasts the future of Local Box and a lore more! Enjoy!Support the show

#18: Kevin Rose (Rose Eco Projects) - Milk Jug Gold & Adventures in Plastic

This episode we are joined by Kevin Rose- President of Rose Eco Projects- a company that connects buyers and sellers of used plastic products. When companies are looking to dispose of plastics such as a damaged car bumper, Rose Eco-Projects connects these companies to buyers who can then use this plastic for new manufacturing purposes.In simple terms, think of taking an old car bumper and melting it down, to be used in the creation of your next Tupperware container. This prevents manufactures from having to use brand new, or "virgin" plastic in their production process, and helps save planet from unnecessary plastic consumption. Rose Eco-Projects is off to a great start and is looking to grow further, as the world continues to use more and more plastic. #17: Micki Chau (OlFactory Shop) E-Commerce Strategies & Cambodia Land Mines

This episode we are joined by Micki Chau - Founder of the OlFactory Shop - a natural fragrance company that also creates essential oils, sprays, perfumes, skin care products, difusers, candles and cool gift sets. The OlFactory Shop was born out Micki's love of plant powers and desire to rid synthetic fragrance from your home and your body. As someone who has always had synthetic fragrance sensitivities, Micki's goal is to create 100% all natural products that fit into a healthy and natural life.Also, while on her honeymoon to Cambodia in September 2018 - Micki learned of Cambodia's dark past and of the violent regime change nearly 40 years ago which led to a massive genocide of an estimated 1.7 million people, and of the millions of landmines left over from the war. Landmines still plague Cambodia today, and the OlFactory Shop supports numerous social causes in Cambodia where Micki's goal is to improve living conditions in the country - through financial contribution. #16: Mike Rutherford (Rundle Eco Services) - Recycling Plastic & Making a Profit

 This episode we are joined by Mike Rutherford - President & co-founder of Rundle Eco Services, a company focused on Eco Capitalism and Environmental Social Governance, or "ESG" for short. Founded in late 2017, Rundle collects and recycles large volumes of post-industrial plastic used in the oil and gas industry. Since inception, Rundle has been on over 150 locations throughout Western Canada,  and have successfully recycled close 1 million pounds of 100% harvested plastic, thus saving it from the landfill.Mike is a native Nova Scotian who is a veteran in the oil and gas business with almost 40 years of experience. Mike's unconventional career started with a large multi-national oil company, before he moved on to a Canadian independent gaining a variety of experience in administration and analytics. He then made the switch to the oil and gas service side as a partner in Nusco Manufacturing & Supply, and was a co-founder of Titan Drilling and Fenway Exploration Ltd. #15: The Coup - Dalia Kohen (Selling a Restaurant on the Eve of Covid-19)

This episode we are joined by Dalia Kohen - co-founder of The Coup - a modern day vegetarian restaurant serving fresh, whole, organic, local foods and beverages.Dalia started the Coup in 2005 after she spotted an opportunity in Calgary for a restaurant that built upon her passions for organic vegetarian food, permaculture and sustainability in general. Through a lot of hard work and passion, Dalia along with her business partners, has built the Coup into a viable business that gained a reputation as one of Calgary's best restaurants with high quality food and a great atmosphere. Within the past few months and on the eve of Covid-19,  Dalia negotiated a sale of the Coup and has successfully moved on from the business leaving behind a great brand and business for the new owners.
