This episode we are joined by Phil Robertson: co-founder of the Phil & Sebastien Coffee Company. Inspired by David Schomer’s Espresso Coffee: Professional Techniques, Phil & Sebastien started their company in late 2007 after they began to realize their engineering jobs no longer left them fulfilled. Combining inspirational trips to Seattle, a lot of trial and error, brain storming sessions and a coffee apprenticeship, Phil & Sebastien had a name and were off the races. After getting their start in Calgary's Farmer's market they haven't looked back as they have steadily added cafe's and doughnuts (Hoopla Doughnuts) to their business ever since.Covid-19 has proved to be tough for Phil & Sebastien, but the company is positioned to come back even stronger from recent events than ever before. Since then, he hasn't looked back and has steadily grown his business every year. This episode I sat down Olympian & World Cup Champion - Ken Read. We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about how Ken prepared for his world cup wins, hiked up Kitzbühel, the origins of the Londoner Bar tradition, dealing with adversity, life after ski racing and how Ken gives back to alpine ski racing today!Ken has had a long and decorated career with some of the highlights as follows:-10 years on the Canadian National Ski Team-14 x World Cup Podiums-2 x Olympics -4 x World Cup Championship Teams -1st Canadian (and North American) to win a men's Downhill World Cup race, in Val-d'Isère, France on December 7, 1975-1st non-European to win both the Hahnenkamm (Kitzbühel), and the Swiss Lauberhorn (Wengen)-Named Canada's Athlete of the Year in 1978 (Lou Marsh Award) -Canadian Male Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1980-In 1991 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada (Canada's highest civilian honour)-Inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1985-Inducted into Canada's Skiing Hall of Fame (Honor Roll of Canadian Skiing) in 1986 -Along with his four teammates, the Crazy Canucks were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2006-Inducted into the International Ski Racing Hall of Fame in 2010He was also the CEO of Alpine Canada from 2002 -2008 and has two sons on the Canadian National Ski TeamIt was a great episode and I hope you enjoy it!Support the show

This episode Mike Rutherford and I sat down for the 3rd part of the "Rundle Eco-Capitalism Series" sponsored by Rundle Eco Services to talk to Michael MacLeod & Cael Tucker - founders of Tailgunner Brewing Company. Tailgunner's story is based on Mike's Grandpa - Lint Stephenson - who was shot down over Holland during World War Two. The entire flight crew was lost in the crash, except for Lint who then went on to spend two years in a POW Camp. This episode we are joined Michal Lavi, co-owner of the Sidewalk Citizen, which she founded with her husband - Aviv Fried. We sat down for an in-person conversation at the Sidewalk Citizen "Simmons" location in the East Village of Calgary.From delivering bread on bicycle, and a one-person operation, the Sidewalk Citizen has slowly grown and is now located in the East Village where it employs 40 people, who makes fresh pastries and bread from scratch with local ingredients. The bakery has been featured in numerous articles in local, national and international publications.Born in Israel, Michal graduated with a Geology degree and a minor in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calgary. After working for several years as a geologist she quit her job to pursue her passion of opening the Sidewalk Citizen. #22: Manny Osborne-Paradis (Olympic Downhiller) - Making a Comeback & Lessons Learned
This episode we are joined by Manuel Osborne-Paradis - member of the Canadian National Alpine Ski Team. Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia - Manny grew up racing for the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. His first World Cup podium came in November 2006 in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, and his first victory was at the downhill of Kvitfjell in March 2009.Manny has been to 4 Olympic Games, 6 World Championships, and has spent 13 seasons on the World Cup Circuit with 2 Downhill wins, 1 Super G win and 11 podium finishes. In addition, Manny now has a two young kids with his wife Lana, and currently resides in Invermere, British Columbia where he enjoys golf, mountain biking and a variety of sports. #21: Jason Bantle (All in the Wild) - Grizzly Bears & Adventures in Photography
This episode we are joined by Jason Bantle, a professional nature photographer who's company donates 6% of all sales to the "All in the Wild Land Trust" which, to date, has allowed for 1,600 acres of land to be purchased and set aside for conservation.Jason grew up outside of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Saskatchewan to study biology where he went on to complete a master’s degree with a thesis focused on Arctic Fox ecology. In 2005, Jason opened his first gallery, just outside of Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan. Since then, he has opened galleries in Banff, Canmore, Niagara-On-the-Lake, and most recently, in Toronto.In 2019, out of 48,000 entries worldwide, Jason was one of 50 wildlife photographers to have their print displayed at the 2019/2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) touring exhibit. Conducted for over 50 years by the Museum of Natural History in London, England, this is the most prestigious wildlife photography competition in the world, and the only one Jason enters each year. Additionally, Jason was fortunate to be given the great honor of receiving the distinction of “Highly Commended” as a nature photographer.Jason's photos are awesome, and I was first introduced to them at his gallery in Banff, Alberta Canada. Since then I've had a photo of the famous "Bedragled Eagle" on my desk for whenever I'm having a bad day. You can find Jason's work on his website - allinthewild.com, and on Instagram as well as media interviews on CTV, CBC, The London Times, USA Today, CNN among others.
