We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee  and talked about how Ken prepared for his world cup wins, hiked up Kitzbühel, the origins of the Londoner Bar tradition, dealing with adversity, life after ski racing and how Ken gives back to alpine ski racing today!Ken has had a long and decorated career with some of the highlights as follows:-10 years on the Canadian National Ski Team-14 x World Cup Podiums-2 x Olympics -4 x World Cup Championship Teams -1st Canadian (and North American) to win a men's Downhill World Cup race, in Val-d'Isère, France on December 7, 1975-1st non-European to win both the Hahnenkamm (Kitzbühel), and the Swiss Lauberhorn (Wengen)-Named Canada's Athlete of the Year in 1978 (Lou Marsh Award) -Canadian Male Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1980-In 1991 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada (Canada's highest civilian honour)-Inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1985-Inducted into Canada's Skiing Hall of Fame (Honor Roll of Canadian Skiing) in 1986 -Along with his four teammates, the Crazy Canucks were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2006-Inducted into the International Ski Racing Hall of Fame in 2010He was also the CEO of Alpine Canada from 2002 -2008 and has two sons on the Canadian National Ski TeamIt was a great episode and I hope you enjoy it!Support the show

This episode we are joined Michal Lavi, co-owner of the Sidewalk Citizen, which she founded with her husband - Aviv Fried. Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia - Manny grew up racing for the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. His first World Cup podium came in November 2006 in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, and his first victory was at the downhill of Kvitfjell in March 2009.Manny has been to 4 Olympic Games, 6 World Championships, and has spent 13 seasons on the World Cup Circuit with 2 Downhill wins, 1 Super G win and 11 podium finishes. In addition, Manny now has a two young kids with his wife Lana, and currently resides in Invermere, British Columbia where he enjoys golf, mountain biking and a variety of sports. This episode we are joined by Jason Bantle, a professional nature photographer who's company donates 6% of all sales to the "All in the Wild Land Trust" which, to date, has allowed for 1,600 acres of land to be purchased and set aside for conservation.Jason grew up outside of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Saskatchewan to study biology where he went on to complete a master’s degree with a thesis focused on Arctic Fox ecology. In 2005, Jason opened his first gallery, just outside of Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan. Since then, he has opened galleries in Banff, Canmore, Niagara-On-the-Lake, and most recently, in Toronto.In 2019, out of 48,000 entries worldwide, Jason was one of 50 wildlife photographers to have their print displayed at the 2019/2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) touring exhibit. Conducted for over 50 years by the Museum of Natural History in London, England, this is the most prestigious wildlife photography competition in the world, and the only one Jason enters each year. Additionally, Jason was fortunate to be given the great honor of receiving the distinction of “Highly Commended” as a nature photographer.Jason's photos are awesome, and I was first introduced to them at his gallery in Banff, Alberta Canada. Since then I've had a photo of the famous "Bedragled Eagle" on my desk for whenever I'm having a bad day. Ryan & Ray knew that bigger companies would recover after COVID-19, but smaller companies that count on foot traffic, word of mouth and sales would ultimately suffer- hence the Local Box was created as a way to support small Calgary business' during this time.
