Defending Closed Primaries in Idaho with Rod Beck
Rod Beck is one of three Ada County Commissioners and also the original driving force for closed primaries in the state of Idaho. Idaho had open primaries until 2012, at which point we went to a closed primary system. He is also not a fan of Rank Choice Voting as he sees several potential problems with voter education and implementation. Rod appeared on the show representing just his personal position and not representing the position of the commissioners or the county. Valley Regional Transit & Nampa Budgeting with Stephen Hunt
Stephen Hunt is the Chief Development Officer for Valley Regional Transit. He came into the studio to talk about the budget issues and decisions that Nampa is grappling with as they pertain to ridership, cost, overall benefit, and long term goals with public transportation within the Treasure Valley and Nampa. Nampa is currently on the cusp of cutting the VRT budget, which would remove some long distance bus routes but also some more localized services. Nampa's Budget Fight against Valley Regional Transit with Sebastian Griffin
Sebastian Griffin is one of the city councilmen from Nampa and is fighting to reduce wasteful spending in the city by reducing funding for Valley Regional Transit. There has been confusion about how utilized the service is for years, but after riding the bus from Nampa to Boise and back every day for weeks, Sebastian concluded that there are literally under 10 regular passengers that benefit from those bus lines on a daily basis. However, reducing the budget comes with many strings attached, including potentially losing funding for sidewalk improvements. Cottage Raw Milk Production with Kassie Strohmeyer
Kassie Strohmeyer is the proprietor at Lazy SP Ranch, a raw cow milk producer in the Treasure Valley. She supplies her milk for consumption and purchase at Rustic Oven in Middleton. For years, Raw milk has been the source of much lore and news stories with many suppliers and co-ops getting shut down by government agencies, so hearing the process she goes through and about the industrial dairy industry was incredibly fascinating and enlightening.
