Suddenly in the midst of Aes Sedai, Perrin has some awkward and confusing interactions. Verin and Alanna tell him that they are simply searching for untrained channelers in the region. We don't believe that's the full story, and Perrin doesn't seem to either. The two women heal the small group of warriors, likely to keep tabs on them, because no one is badly hurt. Ordeith is making alliances with the fades and their trollocs in the area, and assassinating Whitecloaks. The stress of the whole situation is slowly turning Bornhald into an alcoholic. In this and the next few episodes, we'll take special care to explain the complex interweaving of the various plot lines which come together in the Two Rivers. Mistress al'Vere is doing her best to be a gracious host to a Saldean Lady, an Ogier, and three Aiel warriors. You'd hardly know this is a strange event to her. Nor does anyone know that there are two Aes Sedai and their Warders being kept hidden by a conspiracy among the women's circles of the surrounding villages. When Marin al'Vere brings Perrin and his small group to Verin and Alanna's hiding place, Tam and Abell Cauthon are there as well. Each person in the room is regarded as dangerous by the Children of the Light. For once, the Whitecloaks are correct. Perrin comes home. He purposely leads the party in a circuitous route, probably hoping to find Tam, but when he reaches the al'Thor farm there's little more than ashes where it once stood. When the group arrives in Emonds Field the al'Veres urge Perrin to leave, but he's having none of it. Bran has terrible news for him. The Luhans, and the Cauthon women have been kidnapped and are being held by Whitecloaks, there are trollocs preying on isolated farmsteads, and worst of all Perrin's family has been slaughtered by one of those groups. Perrin and Faile's parties make their separate camps. Perrin prepares himself for his own death privately, and enters the Wolf Dream to look for clues about his next step in confronting the Whitecloaks, and how to proceed. Instead he finds Slayer killing wolves in Tel'aran'rhiod, and gives chase. Hopper has some small explanation of who this man is, but leaves Young Bull with more questions than answers. The chase ends with Slayer shifting out of The Dream near the Tower of Ghenjei. This has led many people to think that Slayer entered the tower, but we believe this was simply a ruse to tempt Perrin to enter, never to return. Perrin keeps his ears sharp as he rides through the Ways. He knows he'll be the first person to hear a wind rise, signifying the imminent death of everyone in the party, including himself. There is no outrunning the Black Wind. The rising tension between Faile and Perrin comes to a crescendo (of spanking) early in this chapter. As the small group arrives at the Manetheren gate, Perrin hears and smells a group of Trollocs moving behind them, headed in the same direction as the humans. Loial locks the Waygate behind him, cutting off any possibility of the Trollocs and Myrrdraal escaping. Rand and Mat make their way into the ancient abandoned city. The boys are thirsty after walking through the desert all morning, which leads Rand to discover that with the Power, he can make the long forgotten fountains of Rhuidean produce water again. We believe Rand has been going mad for BOOKS now, using Callandor can only have accelerated the process, and there is a little more evidence in this chapter of Rand's warped perception of reality. The two take a relaxing break underneath the branches of Avendesora before Rand enters the crystal columns. While waiting for him to return, Mat spots the sister of the red-stone doorway Ter'angreal and decides to address what he sees as unfinished business with 'those snake people'. He is surprised when he enters to find a different race of fox faced people waiting on the other side. These people won't answer any of his questions, and in a hilarious quickly escalating misunderstanding, Mat starts shouting at fox people, and winds up getting everything he asks for. Rand has managed to successfully transport his party from a Portal Stone in Tear to one just outside Rhuidean. This was the limit of his power at the time; Moiraine seems to think that he nearly killed himself in the attempt, but she also knows that the Aiel Wise Ones prophesied his safe arrival at the city. Rand leads his odd procession of Aiel and Aes Sedai through the streets of Tear, to a Portal Stone just outside of the city. Aviendha is among the scouts Rand sends out looking for the ancient artifact, she's the one who finds it, it's one of their very fist interactions despite being in the Stone together. Using the Portal Stone is a gamble, and Rand is hoping that his own power enhanced by the Siddhartha angreal will be enough to take his large part to Rhuidean. We'll also get a quick run down of Aiel politics and blood-fueds from Rhuarc.
