Egeanin receives a bag from our old friend Floran Gelb (Captain Domon's boat hand who Rand kicked in the face in EOTW). It contains one of the A'dam that was lost during the initial Seanchan invasion. He is helping her look for many things... Jaichim Carridin is making a deal to place Amathera as the new Panarch of Tanchico in hopes that his plans will stem the flow of deaths in his family. He knows he will be the last to die when the Shadow runs out of relatives to kill. Running into Liandrin entangles him in the Black Ajah's plots, exasperates his problems, and essentially seals his fate. Although there is plenty of Daylight left, Rhuarc decides to stop the large group at a place called Imre Stand where he can be sure of water. Rhuarc's scouts make a grizzly discovery. A group of Aiel goat herders have been literally liquefied, and their remains used to paint the inside of a small shelter. With their goats left behind, we can tell this not only wasn't other Aiel raiders, it wasn't shadowspawn either. This was Lanfear and/or Asmodean not wanting to be discovered. Isendre's feigned shudder at the sight tells us almost as much. Rand's suspicion of the peddlers grows, he begins training and sparring with Rhuarc and Lan regularly in this chapter, and Mat's secondhand memories start bubbling to the surface. Aviendha has been assigned to Rand, and the tension between the two is palpable. The Jindo Sept of the Tardaad clan, Much of the Shaido clan, and small group of Wise Ones and Wetlanders are traveling from Chaendar to Alcair Dal, a gathering place for Aiel Clan Chiefs. There is evident tension between these groups as well. All parties are well aware that violence very well might break out at any moment. While Lanfear and Asmodean are there in disguise as peddlers from the Wetlands, Lanfear sells Mat his iconic hat, and Asmodean makes his plans with Couladin. Rand suspects the other Wetlanders from the beginning, knowing that agents of the Shadow will follow him wherever he goes. Egwene meets Elayne in Tel'aran'rhiod. The two spend some time catching each other up on everything that has happened since the parted ways. Elayne with the Sea folk, and Egwene with the Aiel. The Aiel's Dreamwalkers are busy visiting the dreams of Sept and Clan chiefs, as well as other Wise Ones, alerting them to gather; that Car'a'carn has been found and tested. That's why Egwene thinks it's a good idea to break her word and enter the Dream with out her teachers. She thinks they'll be too occupied to notice. She is wrong. Rand and Mat return to the Aiel camp, and are greeted by the thrown spears of a small group of Shaido led by Couladin, although the gathered Wise Ones quickly put a stop to hostilities. Rand presents his dragon tattoos to the large group of Aiel who have assembled outside of Rhuidean. When they see that he is indeed marked as the Car'a'carn, they simply file out quietly. It's no surprise to us though, that the Aiel men and women assembled here are not exactly excited to see the harbinger of the end of the world as they know it. Perrin and his small group travel from the old sick-house in Westwood across Emonds Field, to scout the Whitecloak camp. On the way, Tam and Abell suggest stopping at the al'Seen Farmstead, which has become one of the many small collections of families who've banded together for self defense. Even with several families under one roof, lookouts on top of the house, and everyone going about armed, this group won't stand a chance against a fist of trollocs led by a myrddraal, and Perrin knows it. Suddenly in the midst of Aes Sedai, Perrin has some awkward and confusing interactions. Verin and Alanna tell him that they are simply searching for untrained channelers in the region. We don't believe that's the full story, and Perrin doesn't seem to either. The two women heal the small group of warriors, likely to keep tabs on them, because no one is badly hurt. Ordeith is making alliances with the fades and their trollocs in the area, and assassinating Whitecloaks. The stress of the whole situation is slowly turning Bornhald into an alcoholic. In this and the next few episodes, we'll take special care to explain the complex interweaving of the various plot lines which come together in the Two Rivers. Mistress al'Vere is doing her best to be a gracious host to a Saldean Lady, an Ogier, and three Aiel warriors. You'd hardly know this is a strange event to her. Nor does anyone know that there are two Aes Sedai and their Warders being kept hidden by a conspiracy among the women's circles of the surrounding villages. When Marin al'Vere brings Perrin and his small group to Verin and Alanna's hiding place, Tam and Abell Cauthon are there as well. Each person in the room is regarded as dangerous by the Children of the Light. For once, the Whitecloaks are correct. Perrin comes home. He purposely leads the party in a circuitous route, probably hoping to find Tam, but when he reaches the al'Thor farm there's little more than ashes where it once stood. When the group arrives in Emonds Field the al'Veres urge Perrin to leave, but he's having none of it. Bran has terrible news for him. The Luhans, and the Cauthon women have been kidnapped and are being held by Whitecloaks, there are trollocs preying on isolated farmsteads, and worst of all Perrin's family has been slaughtered by one of those groups.
