Egwene has settled her Toh with her teachers, and is finally allowed to take the braids out of her hair. In the bloody aftermath of the first (recent) battle for Emond's field, Perrin has to take a group of Congars and Coplins to task for firing on a group of Tinkers who had been fleeing toward the town in search of safety. It is the first of many tasks presented to Perrin as the emerging leader of Emonds Field and the surrounding communities. Perrin will struggle with accepting his role and responsibilities as a leader through out the series, and we'll discuss it in detail. While Faile councils Perrin on becoming a leader of his people, Aram the Tinker interrupts to ask Perrin if he can take one of the swords from the Winespring Inn's makeshift armory. Perrin tells him that anyone looking to defend themselves and the family from shadowspawn is welcome to take what they need. Perrin wakes up, weak and tired, but healed from the brink of death. He senses that Faile is hiding something from him, and eventually drags out of her that Loial and Gaul have gone to re-lock the Waygate against his explicit wishes. Suddenly a cry of “Trollocs!” goes up outside the inn. Although Faile manages to convince Perrin not to go charging off into battle, he does go over-see it. The defenses that have gone up up around Emond's field over the last few weeks manage to hold against what we find is a test. Essentially a probe, to learn how Emond's Field might defend itself. Perrin try's to emotionally deal with the Two Rivers men he's lost in the battles with trollocs, although he has an arrow shot throw his own ribs. Trebuchet or Catapult, get your terms right. Perrin alerts Loial to the unlocked Waygate. Suspicions finally arise about Lord Luc's motivations. Where is he, and what is he doing? We'll break it down for you. WoT Spoilers welcomes The White Tower Podcast one more time to join us in our ongoing conversation. Perrin uses the Wolf Dream for reconnaissance. He knows Slayer is out there somewhere, but still hasn't made the connection to Lord Luc. He spots a group of ravens flying toward the the mountains and follows them to the Waygate, which he finds has been unlocked. As it happens Slayer is there doing some scouting as well, and the two have a short exchange of words and arrows. Realizing that he is being lured into a deadly trap, Perrin simply steps out of the Dream but he cannot wake. He is still too heavily sedated. Hey folks, Sorry for the 'call in' quality of Patrick's audio track on this one. Rest assured, the problem has been fixed! Perrin visits the graves of his family members,and slowly counts his arrows, as if anticipating murder. Faile appears and informs him that Alanna is acting suspiciously, and that hundreds or thousands of people have flocked to Emonds' Field in search of safety, and because a Ta'veren suggested it. Lord Luc has set a trap for the Wolf King and his followers, who have been out hunting Trollocs in the countryside. Nynaeve and Elayne have arrived in Tanchico. The people are starving. Things are so bad there that Captain Domon has started running a soup kitchen. When the young women have a conversation with him for the first time since Falme, he quickly picks up on their good cop/bad cop style, although Elayne and Nynaeve only do this accidentally, it sure does work very well for them. Elayne gets wasted, confronts Thom about her childhood memories of him, and then wanders into Nynaeve and her shared room. In the morning, Elayne will pretend that none of it ever happened.
