Nynaeve calls out to Birgitte in Tel'aran'rhiod, who gave her word to monitor the Forsaken in the Dream. At this point Nynaeve's interactions with the Hero of the Horn are still kept secret at Birgitte's request. When Egwene arrives for they're meeting, she tells Nynaeve that Rand's Aiel followers are hunting Couladin and his Shaido, and will soon arrive at Jangai, threatening a violent invasion of Cairhien. Melaine warns Nynaeve again about the dangers of Tel'aran'rhiod, and asks her to come study the dream with the Wise Ones. Does Elayne deserve to be mocked so thoroughly by Nynaeve? They probably both do, considering how stubborn and headstrong all three of the super girls are. While they're bickering, their coach is suddenly stopped by Valan Luca, the owner of a traveling managerie. They spot Luca's “giant boar horses” immediatley. They've both seen S'redit before, and know that they're Seanchan animals. Luca offers to put on a show for the “Lady Morellin” for “a pittance”, but the young women are in a hurry and, wanting to reach the next town before nightfall. Elayne tells Nynaeve to give the man some money before they continue on. Of course the ever thrifty Nynaeve gives the man a single silver penny. Gareth's team of aging veterans is hot on the tail Suian's group, and as they ride and search for information on their whereabouts, Bryne tells his men a funny story about how he once went up against Elaida, Suian, and Morgase in an argument about protecting Andor's borders. He may be a great warrior, but he fared poorly against those extremely formidable women. He doesn't know that his life is still directed by the same three women. Thom and Juilin head to town to gather supplies while Elayne and Nynaeve discuss Moghedien, and the threats Nynaeve's encounter with her present. What the men bring back is unsatisfactory to Nynaeve and so she and Elayne head to town. When they do Nynaeve sees a Yellow Ajah signal hanging on the shop of a dressmaker. It's a trap.
