Happy birthday to Robert Jordan! (on the day we recorded this one). We establish that Mat's memories range between 500 years after the Breaking and about 2,000 years A.B. So, nothing in the last thousand years. That may have to do with the availability of the Red Stone Doorway Ter'angreal. One of Rand's wards around the camp is triggered, Mat realizes that the camp is being attacked from the south, AND north. We'll learn later that the purpose of the Trolloc and Myrdraal attack is to distract from the Draghkar assassins which drop from the sky in an attempt on Rand's life. Moiraine has warned Rand to trust no woman of the White Tower other than herself now that Siuan has been deposed, and Elaida has taken her place as Amyrlin. Rand and his Aiel armies have reached the Jangai Pass and are preparing to cross the Dragon Wall. A small town just inside of it has been sacked by the Shaido, and as Rand nears it he relaizes he can see the bodies of hanged resisters lining the town wall, spurring him to remember a similar scene witnessed through the eyes of Lews Therin during the War of Power. Those that were not murdered, were taken as slaves. We hear that the Shaido had passed through the area 6 days previously, making much better time than Rand's troops. Liandrin and her fellow Sisters of the Black Ajah are currently in Amador, staying in the house of Jorin Arene awaiting orders from the Tower. We spend this chapter entirely in Liandrin's perspective which leaves us all feeling a bit like we need to wash. As She arrives at the manor house, Liandrin is directed upstairs where she finds waiting for her nine cowed sisters standing at attention, and Gyldin their old maid is the only one sitting. Gyldin shields Liandrin, reveals herself as Moghedien, and after extreme punishment goes about giving each of the women new tasks. Liandrin as well as a handful of others are tasked with hunting down Nynaeve al'Meara, although Moghedien does not know where she is. When Nynaeve wakes, she reviews all the terrible experiences she had in her own dreams and The Dream. She and Elayne have agreed to travel toward Tear now that they've confirmed that there is Siuan has been deposed, Elaida has been raised to Amyrlin, all leading to a deadly dangerous split in the Tower. They happen to run into Galad in a White Cloak uniform. Elayne insists that they get out of town as quickly as possible, believing that her brother will either turn them in to the Children of the Light, or else insist on sending her home to the palace in Caemlyn. Elayne and Thom have a moment when she accidentally reveals that she remembers him from her childhood. One issue resolved, a thousand to come. Nynaeve realizes she can not travel to the Amyrlin's study in the Dream. She can't find it, because it no longer looks anything like what she remembers. There is a new Amyrlin Seat now. When Egwene arrives she tries to reinforce the dangers of Tel'aran'rhiod once more by summoning a nightmare, likely because Egwene doesn't want anyone to know that she herself has been forbidden from entering the dream alone. The relationship between the two women is rapidly changing. The two go about searching for information in Elaida's study, and manage to learn more about the violent and political split in the Tower.
