Thom and Juilin head to town to gather supplies while Elayne and Nynaeve discuss Moghedien, and the threats Nynaeve's encounter with her present. What the men bring back is unsatisfactory to Nynaeve and so she and Elayne head to town. When they do Nynaeve sees a Yellow Ajah signal hanging on the shop of a dressmaker. It's a trap. Rand is navigating a new relationship with his honor guard, the Maidens of the Spear. It's mostly hilarious to watch Rand fumble around while trying to understand a complex exotic culture but one ex-Maiden, Aviendha, is giving him the hardest time of it. When Rand gave Aviendha the ivory bracelet, to thank her for being his advisor. The Maidens of the Spear believed it to be a courting gift, Aviendha is shamed by that assumption, knowing her true destiny with the Car'a'carn, and his relationship with her near-sister Elaine. She gives Rand a dragon belt buckle made of her own spears to 'settle the debt'. We learn so much about Aiel customs and culture in Fires of Heaven, and it's a delight on each re-read.
