20220624 Nicole Sandler Show - End of the Roe, Now Entering Gilead

Yesterday, the illegitimate Supreme Court did away with any concealed carry regulations in NYC or elsewhere, thereby saying states rights? Who needs any stinkin states rights? Today, they overturned 50 years of settled law by overturning Roe v Wade, invoking states' rights. They hypocrisy is blatant. So, a group of House Democrats went to the Capitol steps to sing God Bless America. Seriously. Then after passing a toothless gun bill they all leave town on another two-week vacation (in advance of the month of August they'll also be gone). CyNicole is back today and she's pissed. David Dayen of Prospect.org is also expected as today's guest. I'm sure he'll have a much more measured response than mine. He is after all, a real journalist. I am not.

20220623 Nicole Sandler Show - Gun Nuts and Magats and Trolls on Day 5

Well, we knew it was coming. The Supreme Court is finally handing down its decisions in the remaining cases from this term. They disposed of five this morning, will release a few more tomorrow, and finish it off early next week. Among the cases are a few biggies, and they announced one of them today. In NY State Rifle and Pistol Assn v Bruen, this illegitimate Supreme Court just overturned New York's law against concealed carry unconstitutional, thereby giving Americans license to carry guns anywhere they want. Truly frightening, especially coming so soon after the recent round of mass shootings. And their decision on Roe v Wade is coming within the next week or so. Lucky us! But today, the fifth day of public hearings put on by the House Select Committee investigating the 1-6 attack on the Capitol is scheduled to begin right around 3pm ET. This show goes live at 5. We'll carry it live, either for the whole hour or until they adjourn, at which time we'll talk about it. Again, lucky us! PS Well, the hearing ended at 5:30, and I didn't have Howie ready to go today. So, instead I pulled out an interview I did back in 2014 with Tim Fisher, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia who helped push through reasonable gun control laws there following their one and only mass shooting. Since the Port Arthur Massacre and the new gun laws Fisher helped pass, there hasn't been another one since. We could learn a thing or two from them!

20220622 Nicole Sandler Show - Consulting with our Legal Expert Lisa Graves

It's been a busy week, and it's only Wednesday. But today gives us a break in the considerable legal activity this week. Monday was a holiday. Tuesday gave us five new opinions from the Supreme Court in the morning, followed by another mind blowing hearing from the House Select Committee investigating the events surrounding the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol. Things pick up again tomorrow morning at 10ET, as the court will release more end-of-term opinions (still 13 to go as of today), and the House Select Committee convenes its fifth public hearing at 3pm ET. And, for good measure, the Supreme Court will hand down even more opinions on Friday morning, again beginning at 10ET. So there's much to wade through, and I have tons of questions. So I invited my old friend Lisa Graves to join us today. Lisa is my go-to legal expert, and she's perfect to address today's news. Today, Lisa leads True North Research (truenorthresearch.org). Her legal bona fides are more than impressive: She served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Clinton Administration, Chief Counsel for Nominations for Senator Patrick Leahy on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Deputy Chief of the Article III Judges Division of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and as an adjunct law professor at George Washington University Law School. She also served as the Senior Legislative Strategist for the ACLU on national security and testified as an expert before committees in both houses of Congress. In 2018, she helped shape the national conversation on the Brett Kavanaugh nomination. Yeah, you get the idea. So, Lisa is my guest for most of the hour today. We'll talk about the hearings, the Supreme Court decisions, and why the US is the only nation on the planet that seems afraid to prosecute a former president, regardless of how corrupt he was...

20220621 Nicole Sandler Show - Public Hearings Day 4 Review, Plus SCOTUS Too

It was another devastating day of testimony as the House Select Committee investigating the events surrounding the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol, today focusing on Trump's scheme to get states to throw out the legitimate electors to steal the election for him. We heard from AZ and GA officials, as well as a GA poll worker whose life and her mother's were destroyed by Trump and his followers. This morning, SCOTUS handed down decisions in five of the remaining 18 cases from this term. One of them has major ramifications regarding separation of church and state. Rev Barry W. Lynn will join in at the top of the show to explain what happened... then we'll move on to today's hearing.

The question is, legal or black market? The legal stuff is certainly welcome. But, they make it so difficult and so expensive! Today's guests, Robin Goldstein and Daniel Summer, professors of economics and agriculture respectively, examine the blunt realities of Cannabis Economics, and it seems that it's not all it's cracked up to be.
