A bit of what's news, for now

It's Friday, so we're going to end the week reminiscing about the days of big crowds and live music with a couple of old friends of mine who produced and directed the brand new documentary, "Long Live Rock...Celebrate the Chaos", Jonathan McHugh and Gary Spivack. We'll start, as usual, with the latest news and information, and another visit from Jack Rice in Minneapolis with an update on the murder trial of the cop who killed George Floyd.

A bit of what's news for now

President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act today, bringing help for the American people one step closer. Tonight, he'll begin a pr blitz to educate the public about all that's in the bill that will help us with his first prime time address to the nation. That happens at 8pm ET. In the meantime, I can't help but think about what brought us to this point. We'll talk about it... Today's Thursday, so Howie Klein is here. And today, he'll introduce us to Erica Smith, who threw her hat in the ring this week for the NC Senate seat being vacated by Sen Richard Burr, who's not running for re-election.

Today is Day 48 of the Biden administration, and we're one day closer to a bit of relief. The House today passed the Senate's revised version of the American Rescue Plan Act. Next it goes to the White House for President Biden's signature. Tomorrow night, he begins the process of explaining what's in it to the American people! I think this is the perfect time to take stock of where we are, and look at Biden's first 48 days in office through a progressive lens. How's he doing? I'll ask Mike Lux, a real progressive Democrat who's worked within the Democratic Party for decades. We'll take an honest look at his performance so far. Then, because it's been too long, we'll finish the show with a visit from Julianna Forlano of act.tv

It's another Tuesday without GottaLaff who's still dealing with terrible tendinitis, which is keeping her off the air. But we do have a jam packed show today in her absence. First up, it was a clean sweep of progressives taking over the Nevada Democratic Party. The Intercept's Ryan Grim who broke the story joins in at the top of the show to tell us what happened. Then I'm happy to welcome Norm Ornstein to the show. Last week I shared with you his WaPo Op-Ed "Democrats Can't Kill the Filibuster. But they can gut it." He joins us today to explain exactly how to harness the filibuster to make it work, an idea he fleshed out with Sen. Al Franken.

It is International Women's Day! Even though we still don't have an equal rights amendment here in the US, we can still celebrate the women who've busted their asses to get us to where we are today. After the latest news--that includes this weekend's passage of the American Rescue Plan and the theatrics that surrounded it -- we'll be joined by Amy Simon. Amy is a Cultural HERstorian, and the creator of "She Is History: The Most Dangerous Women in History, Then and Now". And she'll introduce us to "Speechifyin'" and share some fabulous female facts with us too.
