BYP 118 - 5 Keys To Creating Max Impact When Speaking

The key to delivering a successful speech or workshop involves more than just content. Presentation is vital. But any professional communicator knows there are a myriad of external factors that affect you and the audience's ability to engage with you: lighting, room layout, ambient noise, time of day, and more. In today's episode, I outline 5 things I do to manage these external factors so I can serve my audience in the best way possible: Survey the room Sit in the worst seat in the room Optimize my slides Set the rules of engagement Wear the right clothes You can also see a real-world walkthrough of how I did this before speaking at Ernie Svenson's Small Firm Bootcamp in New Orleans: https://youtu.be/zYeGmlN9Tds Join the Brand You Community on Facebook: Have you checked out this invite-only group? Click here to request access to the Brand You Community Liked this episode? BYP 117 - 4 Questions That Actually Kill Confusion and Lead to Clarity

The key to clarity lies in asking the right questions. In today's episode, I share 4 questions that I learned from Michael Hudson on a recent consulting trip. Michael uses these questions when journaling every morning, and he recommended I try them out. In the days since I started asking (and answering) these questions, my clarity and focus have sharpened like never before. Michael is a well-respected consultant who also helps experts create impact with their ideas and get their message heard. I highly recommend his podcast, Get Your Message Heard. It's terrific. BYP 114 - [Niches] How to Pivot Your Speaking Business Multiple Times with Kent Julian

If you're a speaker looking to "pivot" the type of audience you serve, this episode is a must listen. We continue our "Niches" series today with Kent Julian. Kent has one of the most interesting -- and intentional -- speaking businesses I've seen. He started out as a director of youth ministries (churches), went into the education space, then into youth leadership, and most recently into the association space. How did he pivot so many times, so successfully? He unpacks it all for us today. His tips on "reverse interviewing", building a list of event planners, using the revolving door strategy, and showcasing are pure gold. BYP 113 - [Niches] How to Build A Six-Figure Fitness Brand with Jeff McMahon

It's been said the "riches are in the niches" -- and that's what we're going to be looking at for the next 3 episodes on the podcast. You're going to get real-world case studies of how several of my friends and colleagues have built significant six-figure personal brands by narrowing their niche. In today's episode, I interview Jeff McMahon of Total Body Construction, a personal trainer who has taken his business to the next level by training entrepreneurs virtually in addition to what he does in person. Jeff's business is fascinating because he has three different niches to the same fitness business, and all three have very different types of customers. It's a great lesson on how to extend your product line laterally -- meaning offering the same services to different audiences. We also talk about the realities of building a visually-based business (you've got to look good to build a fitness business, right?) and how Jeff leveraged one client, internet entrepreneur Pat Flynn, to land client after client afterwards. You'll also find out why I personally think most of my fitness coach friends are being duped by big businesses like BeachBody. While I love BeachBody's products, the way they advise their trainers to build businesses is terrible! Mentioned In Today's Episode: Apply For Brand You LIVE here. BYP 111 - How To Make Networking ... Work!

This episode is a direct response to a question posted in the Brand You Community Facebook group by Mariana Ruiz: "One thing that keeps coming to mind is how do you get good at networking? I am a huge introvert and this year I have pushed myself out to join masterminds and even going to a live event. How do I keep up those relationships and nourish the right ones without feeling burnt out? And also making sure they are strategic." A few thoughts regarding my personal mindset when it comes to networking: It’s not about hunting, it’s about helping. It's about farming. It's about cultivating relationships. I also look to connect with super-connectors. Here are the five points summed in today's episode: Pick who you want to get to know Study these folks ahead of time so you’re prepared to add legendary value. Ask questions that get the conversation going. Take a strategic selfie Follow up and offer something they would genuinely find useful Never Ask These Questions! Is there anything I can help you with? So, tell me about yourself... What’s your story? What do you do? Instead, Ask These Questions: What’s giving you energy right now? What are you working on that’s really exciting you? I know such-and-such a person that might be a great fit for you. Interested? Mentioned In Today's Episode: Apply For Brand You LIVE here. BYP 109 - Why 10x Thinking Is Better Than 2x Thinking

One of the keys to my success has been thinking in terms of 10x rather than 2x. When you ask yourself the hard question of how you plan to grow your business by 10x, it opens up new pathways in your thinking and decision-making. In this episode, I share how 10x thinking has affected how I run my business now and the ripple effect it's had on how I set my fees and decide which projects I take. Apply For Brand You LIVE here.
