Mergers and acquisitions are commonplace in the language services industry, but sometimes not very well understood to the uninitiated. Today we will talk with somebody who has gone through the M&A process from the perspective of an LSP owner who sold her business. In early 2019 RWS acquired Edmonton-based company Alpha Translations for USD 6 million (cash). Although LSPs of different sizes tend to compete for different types of clients there is occasionally some overlap. In a world where we are constantly reminded of all the mergers and acquisitions that are happening and where more and more translation companies are betting on size and scale as a differentiator it is important to remember that in this industry of scope, not scale, there are still plenty of opportunities for smaller competitors to win.About Filipe:Filipe Tiago Stankovic is a young and very motivated CEO who has been working as such for the last 3 years. About Alvaro Montoya Alvaro is a Telecom Engineer from Barcelona (Spain) with an MBA from Tsinghua University (Beijing). He is fluent in Spanish, Catalan, English, and Chinese. During the last 11 years, he has been living in China working in multinational companies such as Microsoft. In 2018, during his MBA studies, he built a prototype called "Akkadu" (at that time it was a multilingual AI subtitles software to help students understand content in their own language) and participated in a startup competition sponsored by Facebook where he got the second prize. That was the beginning of Akkadu. Alvaro loves playing the piano, playing chess, watching anime, and his favorite quote is "别守株待兔，主动!" which means "don't wait for things to happen, make them happen!"
