Let's use the rest of the time in 2020 to educate ourselves (9/17)
Today's word of the day is 'survey' as in one was conducted and the results were scary. It was one on the Holocaust and the amount of young adults who didn't know 6 million Jews were killed is shocking. Let's talk about education and the dangers of ignoring history.... (0:06) MLB expanded playoffs is here and fans are BIG mad about this. Well, owners will never accept a 2nd year of this format. Here is why (12:15). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if Albert Pujols doesn't get to 700 career home runs will anyone currently playing get there. What a great question (22:00). Review - Triple Frontier (28:30). An update on some MLB picks and how bad the Phillies stink(32:40). Let me make some corrections (36:00). What's the deal with the Clippers? Now we hear about how dysfunctional that team actually was. Not great for next season (37:15). WE NEED TO VOTE. REGISTER TO VOTE. WE DON'T CARE HOW YOU VOTE, JUST VOTE! #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Big Ten announces college football will return this fall (9/16)
Today's word of the day is 'unanimous' as in the voting process in the Big Ten as in college football was cancelled this fall in the conference and then un-cancelled after another vote by school presidents and chancellors. So what happened? What changed so much from the first vote that was 11-3 to NOT play and now 14-0 TO play (0:06). You know who's on vacation now? The Los Angeles Clippers are. What went wrong with that team? If I'm Clippers owner Steve Ballmer what am I doing today. Let's discuss (12:43). Review - Quincy (21:30). Dan McNeil was fired by 670 The Score after his comments about ESPN analyst and host Maria Taylor. Let's talk about Entercom's statement that was released about the firing. It was perfect. It's a good time to bring up freedom of speech and the consequences that come from it (25:15). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the MLB bubble. It has confirmed Texas and Southern California as the locations. What's the biggest takeaway from this (39:30)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. New York Mets fans are dancing in the streets today (9/15)
Today's word of the day is '23' as in 23 votes needed as in Steve Cohen will be the new owner of the New York Mets if he gets 23 votes from MLB owners. So let's talk about this deal. What will change if anything with the Mets (0:06)? MLB has cancelled the General Manager's Meetings this winter and the Winter Meetings will likely be cancelled too. Is this a big deal for baseball? No (10:46). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what I thought about Bruce Arian's comments on Tom Brady. They wanted to know if this sort of public criticism would work on Tom Brady (18:28). Review - The Social Dilemma (27:45). We'd like to take some time to update on my 'wait to see' observations (37:35). The Big Ten is starting to get on my nerves. The Presidents were supposed to meet together and vote on trying to get the season back. Now that the season has started and other conferences are playing the Big Ten feels left out. What happens next (41:30)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Are you ready for some football!?
Today's word of the day is 'seurat' as in the famous painter Seurat as in Sunday Afternoon as in the NFL is back! Did you watch!? We had some great games in week one of the NFL season. Let's start things off with our dear friend Dan Snyder. How could Washington Football Team be back? Well, because Dan Snyder said he may just keep that name (0:06)! The New York Jets need a new football coach. Adam Gase is not the answer and he's proven time and time again why he shouldn't be coaching in the NFL (6:30). The biggest play of the weekend was pass interference in the Cowboys game. Of course it was (11:45). Giannis Antetokounmpo met with Milwaukee Bucks ownership over the weekend. Reports said they discussed the team moving forward, how much the team would spend on players to help its star, and a bunch of other fun things. What are these meetings like (16:58)? Review - Wildlife (28:45). What's going on in MLB? Did you all forget it was still happening? Marlins fans sure haven't. The Miami Marlins are the talk of MLB and Don Mattingly and Mike Hill deserve all the credit in the world (32:15). Albert Pujols hit his 660th home run over the weekend. He's one of the three best right-handed hitters of all time, but he isn't catching Alex Rodriguez (35:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if the MLBPA could derail the MLB postseason bubble. With the playoffs starting in two weeks how big of a deal could this become (39:15)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. What happened inside MLB during 9/11 attacks
Today's word of the day is 'surreal' as in what happened on September 11, 2001. Let me walk you through what happened that day when I was vice president of the Montreal Expos. We'll talk about what went down that day inside baseball; from conversations with the government to the discussions that were had behind-closed-doors in MLB.---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. What else is 2020 going to throw at us?
Today's word of the day is 'apocalypse' as in what else is going to happen this year as in coronavirus as in hurricanes as in west coast wildfires. We live in one of the most insane years ever and it just keeps getting crazier. With the NFL season about to kickoff tonight, this weekend the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals, but THE SKY IS RED! The air quality is so poor because of the fire that the game might not happen (0:06). Steve Nash is the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. It's a big hire because he's a former 2-time NBA MVP. A question came up at his press conference about 'white privilege' and let's discuss his response (9:53). Review - I'm Thinking of Ending Things (20:15). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me my thoughts on Justin Timberlake being added to a group trying to expand MLB into Nashville following my thoughts on Jennifer Lopez and the Mets. Let me take you to business class very quickly. How does the sale of authentics work for teams (27:00)? The Milwaukee Brewers claim their sales are down and the Atlanta Braves say their sales are up. Hmm (32:15). Bubble talk! Bubble talk! Some Lakers players are upset about late-night games and not enough time off. The GM for the Jazz wants to adapt the bubble scheduling to the regular season. Let's look at the NBA trying to take a page from MLB playbook and why it likely won't work... or will it (39:15)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. It's time for JLo and Arod to give up on their New York Mets dream
Today's word of the day is 'dinero' as in the green, the money, the cash flow. We all just want that dinero. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are back in the news again because they won't give up on their dream to buy the Mets. Even though Steve Cohen has gotten the exclusive right to buy the team. Why is this important? Because some of the things they said they would GUARANTEE if they bought the Mets were RIDICULOUS! Let me explain (0:06). Politicians sent letters to Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and to the Big Ten presidents. I've dealt with a ton of politician letters in my time. Here's what happens (14:07). Leonard Fournette said for the first time in his career he has a QB to play with. I didn't appreciate him saying this. Not because it could be true, but because there's no need for it (24:00). What could be the biggest threat to an NFL season this year? Injuries. Same thing with MLB. I had told you listeners that MLB players weren't ready. I don't think NFL players are ready either (29:54). Review - Mulan (37:15). Let's end today with some NBA talk. How good are the Miami Heat? Did anyone see the Milwaukee Bucks going home this soon? We did here. Because the bubble is located in Upset City, USA (41:40). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Serving you a Labor Day Weekend sports update (9/8)
Today's word of the day is 'default' as in what happened to Novak Djokovic as in he got the boot from the U.S. Open for hitting accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball (:06). This was the story of the sports weekend. It's been quite the summer for tennis bad boy. Will this hurt The Joker from catching Roger Federer? I need to address something that happened last Thursday. We were wrong to jump on a story that we thought was credible and it turned out to not be. We're referring to the Penn State athletic doctor and his report on covid-19. It seems like there was confusion on the public's part and we reported on that (10:10). The one thing I will say is this was not political. It was commentary on what was happening. Review - Love (18:45). What has happened to the New York Yankees (23:30)? They have become a complete disaster recently. Currently sitting at the 8-seed. S.O.S! IF this team doesn't make an expanded postseason...... What else happened in baseball this weekend? Max Fried, hurt. Eric Hosmer, hurt. Javy Baez is very upset with not being allowed to use the replay-review system during games. Just another weekend in MLB. So You Wanna Talk To Samson (31:30)!? Someone asked me how Nationals GM Mike Rizzo could possibly be thrown out of a game for not wearing a mask IN A STADIUM SUITE! Let's talk about umpire Joe West. WOOF! Let's finish today's show talking about Lionel Messi (42:45). He announced that he will be staying in Barcelona for at least this final season on his deal. Will he ever sign another deal with Barcelona again? #waittosee Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
