What not to say: David Tepper & Kirk Cousins edition (9/3)

Today’s word of the day is ‘selfless’ as in David Tepper, owner of the Carolina Panthers, made some staff cuts, BUT, he did it for them! That’s according to him. He said these are difficult times, but the cutting of someone’s position is better for them because ’it’s not good to have an individual sit idle for a year,’... excuse me (0:12)? Kirk Cousins made headlines yesterday for his comments about the pandemic and wearing a mask. He responded the ole Ivan Drogo way.. If I die, I die. Cousins decided later on in the day to walk back some of his comments (11:20). Review - Big Time Adolescence (26:28). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I ever remember a manager candidate declining publicly that they weren’t a candidate, but they were actually a candidate (28:55). Okay. Let me get this out there right now... Aaron Boone would not have his pitchers throw at the Rays. He wouldn’t do it. Aroldis Chapman and Kevin Cash were always getting suspended (35:52). Penn State’s director of Athletic Medicine just dropped some breaking news about coronavirus. It is damning evidence against why the Big Ten are NOT playing football this fall. Will anyone trust science now (41:55)? #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow David on Twitter: @DavidPSamson To watch David on CBS Sports HQ visit https://www.cbssports.com/live/To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/https://www.youtube.com/nothingpersonalwithdavidsamson Learn more about your ad choices. The new AL East Rivalry: Yankees v. Rays? (9/2)

Today's word of the day is 'headhunting' as in the Yankees and Rays now have some big time beef. Aroldis Chapman threw a 101 mph pitch at a Rays players' head and that was enough. Benches cleared after the game. And Rays manager Kevin Cash did NOT hold back with his comments on the Yankees (0:06). What about the old Yankees rivals? We're talking Boston Red Sox. What did they do yesterday to stir the pot with their fan base? Well, they tweeted out a meme about the 'reset' of the luxury tax. Uh oh. Let's talk about the troubles of that tweet and what exactly the luxury tax is (8:15). What happens when a manager is 'blindsided' by a trade? Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said that happened to him in the Cameron Maybin trade (17:47). Review - Bill & Ted Face The Music (24:30). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the title on a player of being 'injury prone' being not fair to the player, but more indicative of the medical/training staff and ownership (28:30). CONFERENCE CALL TIME! Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren received a phone call from President Donald Trump about trying to get college football this fall. WHAT?!?!? Will this play any factor in the decision to play Big Ten football this fall? Roger Goodell talked about fan in the stands again. This time it was about 'competitive advantage'. He said there is no advantage for having fans in the stands.... huh (35:30)? THE BIG TEN IS BACK! ... in the news again

Today's word of the day is 'discovery' as in a lawsuit by Nebraska football players against the Big Ten conference. Is football going to come back this fall? Well, President Donald Trump said he wants to see it happen. Let's go to law school (0:06). Dan Snyder has been a content machine for this show. Not in a great way. The Washington Football Team is now being investigated by the NFL because of MORE allegations about the culture of the team. Disaster (13:10). What's happening with Real Salt Lake? Remember we talked about about the owner Dell Loy Hansen and if MLS would force him to sell? Remember? Well he's selling (19:34). Review - Drunk Parents (26:00). MLB made a very quiet announcement today and we need to fill you in. It has to do with Minor League Baseball. Let's shine a light on this. It isn't pretty (29:00). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me my thoughts on why I think the NBA has set the bar on social issues (42:05). Bonus Pod: MLB Trade Deadline Winners & Losers

You knew you were going to get an MLB Trade Deadline bonus pod! Let's go through some winners and losers of the deadline. Loser alert! The Texas Rangers opened a new ballpark this year and had to become sellers. The New York Yankees didn't make a move! What!? The Cleveland Indians traded away Mike Clevinger! WHY!? How about the winners? The San Diego Padres are the big winners of the deadline. Landing the big fish in Mike Clevinger was the move. This team is ready for October. You all think I hate on the Marlins.. I don't! The Miami Marlins are winners! A deal for Griffin Conine was good. Getting Starling Marte was good! For some teams not making a move is makers you a winner. The Los Angeles Dodgers were that. They are that good, no need to make a trade.---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. San Diego Padres blockbuster deal on Deadline Day (8/31)

Today's word of the day is 'Monty Hall' as in Let's Make a Deal as in it's MLB trade deadline day. So what goes down during the trade deadline? What are teams doing? Well, the San Diego Padres had a very busy weekend. They made a blockbuster deal for Cleveland Indians starter Mike Clevinger. The Padres were in on plenty other deals too. Will this work out for the team? How did Mike Clevinger make his way out of Cleveland? What are the Indians doing? Last year it was Trevor Bauer, this year it's Mike Clevinger. Bad teams stay bad by doing bad deals (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me to update on the sale on the New York Mets now that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are out of it (19:19). Let's honor Chadwick Boseman, Cliff Robinson, and John Thompson (29:30). Review - The Binge (35:40). Ending the show with some New York Yankees talk. How much trouble is this team in? More specifically, how much trouble is Brian Cashman in (39:10)? New York Mets incompetence is nothing new (8/28)

Today's word of the day is 'sampson' as in misspelling my name as in Brody's as in how the New York Mets misspelled Brodie Van Wagenen's name in a press release last night. Why was a press release warranted? Well, Brodie got caught on a live mic talking poorly about MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and owner Jeff Wilpon. What a disaster. How as this leaked? IT WASN'T! The Mets 'accidentally' posted the feed onto the team's website. Woof (0:06). The NBA continues to get things right. Regardless of what your view is on them, just listen to me here. Games will be played on Saturday. After two days of protest. After countless meetings. After getting tangible action items listed. Let's hope change soon comes. But something happened in one of those meetings that needs to be talked about. Patrick Beverley said something so disrespectful to union boss Michelle Roberts that Chris Paul, Udonis Haslem, and other players had to put him in check. Wow (16:55). Review - Lean on Pete (28:20). For the first time in NPDS history - we have the best statement released of all time by a team... the Baltimore Ravens (32:55). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I think that the owner of the Real Salt Lake MLS team should be forced to sell his team after his most recent comments about players protesting (38:30). The night the sports world stopped (8/27)

Today's word of the day is '2020' as in it has been a year to remember and a year to forget. Last night the Milwaukee Bucks decided to boycott Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs. What happened after that was historic. NBA games were postponed (0:06). MLB games were stopped (27:25). WNBA games weren't played. NHL went on business as usual (32:42). Meetings were had. Phone calls were made. Let's walk through what happened and what happens next. From players to owners and everyone else. This show is part business, part personal (39:15). Is a potential boycott going to happen in the NBA? (8/26)

Today's word of the day is 'boycott' as in NBA players are meeting to talk about potentially sitting out games of the playoffs. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was very open about his thoughts on how troubling things are to have to focus on playing basketball right now. Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart spoke about a potential boycott. What's happening in the NBA and is there anything the league can do (0:06)? Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George opened up about his mental health. He was honest about the anxiety and depression that he's been suffering from (16:57). The Detroit Lions cancelled practice yesterday and the players met with the media. Let's talk about this (23:08). Review - Sinatra: All or Nothing At All (31:00). This is the biggest sports story of the day. Messi wants out of Barcelona. His eyes are set on Manchester City. The one problem? An $825M clause in his contract that he will now dispute with the club (34:20). Uh oh. Breaking news alert! Indiana Pacers have fired head coach Nate McMillan just a few weeks after signing him to an extension. What a disaster that release was (40:30). Quick follow up on the Cleveland Indians... would you look at that... Mike Clevinger is back tonight for the team. Plesac was told there's 'no opportunity at the big league level' at the moment. Yea, right...
