Are Tampa Bay Rays bringing Moneyball back? (10/13)

Today's word of the day is 'scrutiny' as in what front offices in MLB are doing right now as in the Tampa Bay Rays are changing the game again. Can the Rays win the World Series? Of course. Will other teams try and become the Rays? Maybe. Are front offices around the league watching the Rays to see if this all works out? Absolutely (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about what's going on with the Boston Red Sox and if it could impact the team's payroll. If you don't know what's going on with the Boston Red Sox... here you go (18:26). Review - One More Orbit (29:40). San Diego Padres player Tommy Pham was stabbed while leaving a strip club. There was an argument by his car and he tried to intervene. He ended up in a hospital. Nightmare (32:25). Here's a big update on some wait to see updates that have been made throughout the year. I tell you if it happens, if it does i tell you, if it doesn't I tell you... accountability (38:45). #waittosee---------------------------'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow David on Twitter: @DavidPSamson To watch David on CBS Sports HQ visit https://www.cbssports.com/live/To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/https://www.youtube.com/nothingpersonalwithdavidsamson Learn more about your ad choices. Remembering the life of Joe Morgan; Will Jerry Jones pay Dak Prescott now? (10/12)

Let's start today's show by remembering the life of Hall of Famer Joe Morgan. He died today at the age of 77. 10-time All-Star, two-time MVP, two-time World Series Champion... what a career and what a life..... (0:06) Today's word of the day is 'risk tolerance' as in how much risk is Jerry Jones willing to tolerate. Dak Prescott underwent surgery for a compound fracture of his ankle and his season is over. The Dallas Cowboys QB will miss the rest of the season... a season in which he is playing under the franchise tag, and not a long-term deal (3:48). BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS! Rick Renteria has been fired by the Chicago White Sox. Very surprising news (14:03). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what I thought about LeBron James legacy after winning his 4th title with three different teams. So let's talk about the GOAT discussion and where it stands today (20:20). Review - Emily In Paris (28:50). We're finally getting to the ALCS. The Tampa Bay Rays bullpen absolutely shut down the Houston Astros offense. What does it mean for the series (32:05)? What about in the NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves (36:20)? We'll end today's show with some more NFL news because it never ends. The NFL has completely changed the schedule after more positive tests forced the league to postponed and reschedule games. Patriots DB Jason McCourty sounded off on the NFL and NFLPA. Does Roger Goodell or the NFL care about this (41:30)? NLCS set: Dodgers and Braves is the best possible matchup (10/9)

Today's word of the day is 'doughnut' as in 0 as in shutout as in what the Atlanta Braves have been able to do four times in five postseason games. The Braves shutout the Marlins to close up its NLDS series and advance to the NLCS to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was the best matchup for baseball fans. The two best teams all season will get to wrestle for a spot in the World Series. What does the front office do the day after your team has been eliminated from the postseason? It's an interesting conversation. Do you start to make moves? Do you wait and see? What happens? The Miami Marlins are asking themselves all of these questions right now. This was a strange season and the Marlins were able to make a little run, but what about 2021 (0:06)? Dwayne Haskins was benched by Ron Rivera. Why is this a worthy conversation? Let's talk about the reasons Rivera said that Haskins was benched. Not a great look for the head coach (26:29). Review - Red Dog (37:25). We've got Game 5 of Yankees-Rays tonight. This is it. The deciding game and Gerrit Cole is pitching on short rest for the first time in his career (40:30). We've got Game 5 in the NBA Finals tonight. LeBron going for ring number four. China is showing an NBA game for the first time in over a year! Will LBJ get the ring (44:20)? MLB postseason beef making games more exciting than usual (10/8)

Today's word of the day is 'phew' as thank God as in Los Angeles Dodgers are phewing themselves right now after Kenley Jansen almost blew Game 3 to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. Joe Kelley came in the game for the Dodgers and he almost blew it. Let's talk about bullpens and the change that's come. We had Manny Machado get into verbal war with Brusdal Graterol. Cody Bellinger hit a home run and robbed a home run (0:06). What's going on with the New York Yankees? Problems and lots of them. Giancarlo Stanton is scorching Earth at the plate and it matters NADA. Tampa Bay Rays took Game 3 to go up 2-1 and things are looking grim for the Yankees (11:42). Why are so many rookies making their MLB debut in the playoffs? Let's discuss exactly why this is happening (20:33). Review - The Amazing Johnathan (33:30). We know there's been an outbreak with the Tennessee Titans, but could the NFL really force them to forfeit a game? Let's discuss. Rumors swirling that if they forfeit then the Buffalo Bills wouldn't get paid... I don't know about that. What will the NFL do (37:45)? NFL covid outbreak could impact entire league (10/7)

Today's word of the day is 'spaghettiOs" as in uh oh as in uh oh spaghettiO as in the NFL has a covid problem on its hands. Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for coronavirus following the Patriots and Chiefs game on Monday night. So now Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore are out. The Tennessee Titans went one day without a new positive test, but now on Wednesday we have two more positive tests. These are major issues in the league. What will Roger Goodell and the NFL do (0:06)? Raise your hand if you watched 11 or 12 hours of baseball yesterday. I did. What happened in the Marlins-Braves game that stood out? The Marlins poked the bear. Sandy Alcantara hit Ronald Acuna after he homered off him in the first inning. The Braves responded by letting the bats fly (11:22). Giancarlo Stanton has come alive in the postseason. Homer after homer after homer after homer after homer. BUT! Did Aaron Boone blow it before the game even started (21:07)? What meaningful thing happened in the San Diego Padres game? Mike Clevinger started and made it through just one inning before leaving with an injury. Uh oh (27:53). Review - Wonder Woman (35:17). Doc Rivers lasted one day without a job in the NBA. He's the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers and the things he said at his introductory press conference were so ridiculous. We need to talk about this. What will Doc do with Embiid and Simmons (38:40)? Houston Texans fire Bill O'Brien and the Dolphins tank is on (10/6)

Today's word of the day is 'business' as in this show as in it's always business as in Bill O'Brien knew that getting fired was business. Why was he fired? A laundry list of reasons. He was the head coach and the GM. He traded away DeAndre Hopkins. He has no first or second round pick in 2021. The Texans are 0-4. Disaster (0:06). What's going on with the Miami Dolphins? They own the Texans first and second round picks in 2021 so should the tank continue? Seems like it. Why is Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter while Tua rides the bench... business (15:44). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me why the NBA Finals ratings are plummeting and if it's because the NBA has gone 'woke'. This is such a politicized topic that we need to break it down (24:50). Review - Top 5 James Bond movies (40:45). NFC East is the laughing stock of the NFL (10/5)

Today’s word of the day is ‘least’ as in the NFC Least as in the NFC East is as bad as it gets in the NFL. Th Dallas Cowboys almost came back in miracle fashion again. Is Dak Prescott the problem? Doesn't look like it. So who is? Jerry Jones? What about the rest of the NFC East? The Philadelphia Eagles lead the division with a 1-2-1 record! The New York Giants have a real problem on their hands as well. What about the WTF? I mean... the WFT... STINK. But is this bad for the NFL? Nope (0:06). Did Tom Brady find the fountain of youth or is it all a mirage (10:23)? How about Brady's old team the New England Patriots? Cam Newton tested positive, game moved to Monday, and now the Patriots are traveling in two different planes to Kansas City (12:55). Review - American Murderer: The Family Next Door (24:00). Philadelphia Phillies GM Matt Klentak has 'stepped down' from him role... okay... stepped down.. how about fired! That's not even the biggest news. Phillies owner John Middleton threw Klentak so far under the bus he's still rotating around the tires (31:30). How did my Wild Card picks do? Now it's time to give out some Divisional Round picks (41:00). Let's end the show with the best sports story of the weekend... Jalen Ramsey v. Golden Tate. A big tackle, a big backstory, and a big postgame fight... was this business or something personal (45:00)?
