“If you write $800,000 a year and you run a really lean business and you’re making $400,000 profit because your expenses are low, you’ve just got you and one other person, you’ve got a bit of time leverage and you’re living a great life, then that’s success.”
Some of the topics I discussed with Mat include:
Mat’s unorthodox journey into real estate, including overcoming homelessness and warrants for his arrest
Mat’s secret to success and how a simple thing like commitment plays a massive role
Why the popular ‘Monday Starters’ came to an end – and why everyone needs to make choices instead of trying to fit everything in
The 31-minute movement and how one extra minute makes a big difference
The image problem in real estate, why so many agents seem unhappy and what can be done about it
Mat’s wish for a change in language – start talking about profit instead of GCI
The tools Mat and Brocccolee use in creating their videos and how they approach their content plan on a weekly basis
Mat’s tips on how to build resilience and why energy and mindset are the key to everything.

Ben Collier doesn’t like the limelight, he prefers his results, and that of his team, to speak for themselves.
And what an eye-popping collection of results they are.
In 2018 Ben was involved in the sale of Rona for a suburb record in Bellevue Hill for $58.37 million.
He also achieved the record for the highest sale in Centennial Park, selling 44-46 Lang Rd for $16.5 million.
But, in a rare interview, Ben shares with Samantha why he is not all about breaking records and it is more important to develop lifetime relationships with his clients and his team.
Download the action guide for this episode with more links and resources at https://eliteagentelevate.com
“It’s become a game of inches now. You might be doing five per cent more here and you might be doing two per cent more here and three per cent more there, so it has become a game of inches where, collectively, all of those key differentials add up to where you might be 15 per cent over and above the next agent that the owner is considering.”
Some of the topics I discussed with Ben include:
Ben’s philosophy on real estate, including why he plays the long game and not the ‘right now’ game.
How to build a successful team and why your team’s brand is just as important as your own
How his team works together to ensure the best outcome for the client
How The Agency and The Agency’s leadership team play an active role in Ben’s business
Why simply calling lots of people doesn’t necessarily work when it comes to relationship building
Why you shouldn’t celebrate for too long when you get a listing or make a sale
Ben’s most memorable sale – it’s not what you would think
The places Ben draws inspiration from for business growth
Why every business needs to regularly hit the ‘refresh’ button.

Wayne Marriott isn’t just fast on his feet, the national masters 100m hurdles champion also knows more than a thing or two about real estate.
In this episode of Elevate, Wayne takes Samantha through his early career working for a Melbourne-based sound company that supplied equipment to rock ‘n’ roll artists such as Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, to his 14 years as a systems engineer for IBM.

Wayne prides himself on his top negotiating skills and says the best thing an agent and agency can do is invest in its people.

Navigating legislative changes for NSW agents
Editors Note (s): Things can change pretty quickly in politics! This interview was recorded on Tuesday 18/2 and since then a couple of significant changes have taken place:
1. Previously Fair Trading advised that only one licensee in charge could be nominated for a business from 23 March. This has now been revised to allow corporation licensees to continue to nominate multiple licensees in charge if it chooses to do so. Corporation licensees who wish to nominate additional licensees in charge, or change their licensees in charge from 23 March 2020 can complete the Licensee in Charge Nomination form. You’ll need to send your completed form to propertylicensing@customerservice.nsw.gov.au by 5:00 pm on 1 March 2020.
2. At the time of recording, only approved industry associations and government agencies were approved by Fair Trading to deliver the new ‘mandatory CPD’. It was announced this morning that other organisations, such as RTOs, can now apply for approval by completing the application form found on Fair Trading’s website.
We will continue to update information as it comes to hand, but for the latest and greatest, please continue to check the links to Fair Trading noted below.

Licensing and CPD changes
The rules around the Licensee in charge, and who takes over in the event of a misadventure
The minister answers the question of whether the industry is at risk of losing talent as a result of the requirement for everyone to become licensed
The concerns that have been expressed by RTOs outside the real estate reference group and REINSW
The minister’s wish for peace over conflict (in relation to the REINSW leaving the Reference group and lobbying for a separate property commissioner)
Changes to the Residential Tenancies Act, including rent increases, lease break clauses and provisions for domestic violence victims.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re this person or Mother Teresa, you just cannot get away with saying those kinds of things. If there’s one salient point that I’d like to make today, it’s not how it was intended, it was how it’s perceived. It’s as simple as that. And if you’re not sure, just don’t say it.”
Some topics I discussed with Doug include:
How Doug comes up with the inspiration to write about the things that get traction among people
Proptech and the great debate of machine versus human
Why Doug sees “off-market” as not particularly helpful what it really means and his thoughts on a better term for it
