Ep. 266: Why Do We Crave Alcohol? Dopamine Nation with Dr. Anna Lembke
If you’ve been caught in that exhausting loop of “I need to take a break” followed by “I need a drink,” this episode will be a game-changer.
I asked Dr. Anna Lembke—Stanford psychiatrist, addiction specialist, and author of Dopamine Nation—to help explain the science behind alcohol cravings, why dopamine plays a central role in addiction, and how you can reset your brain to feel better without drinking.
Dr. Lembke breaks down how alcohol spikes dopamine in your brain, giving you that initial “ahhh” sensation. But here’s the kicker: over time, alcohol actually lowers your natural dopamine levels, leaving you feeling more anxious, depressed, and restless when you’re not drinking. It’s not just a bad hangover—it’s a neurological withdrawal cycle.

Because when alcohol has been the glue holding your social life together, stepping away from it can feel like pulling a thread that unravels everything.
In this episode of The Hello Someday Podcast, I sat down with Dr. Kimberly Horn, research psychologist and author of Friends Matter, For Life, to talk all about how to build and nurture friendships that actually support your alcohol-free life — and why connection is crucial for your emotional health and sobriety journey.
I asked Dr. Horn to share practical, research-backed tools you can use to create meaningful connections and friendships in sobriety — even if you’re feeling lonely, awkward, or like you’re starting over socially. (And yes, there are actionable steps you can take today!)

Ep. 264: Drunk-ish: Casey’s Drinking From Blackouts To Breakthroughs
Hey there! In today’s episode, I’m flipping the mic and sharing an interview of me—recorded on the Drunk-ish podcast with the hilarious and wise Stefanie Wilder-Taylor—comedian, author of Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay and Drunk-ish, and one of the original mom writers who made me feel seen in the early days of parenting (and wine o’clock).
If you’ve ever wanted to hear the full origin story—like, how I went from a straight-A, people-pleasing diplomat’s kid to doing rugby keg runs in college and the book I read that made me recognize I might have a problem with alcohol… all the way to how I finally quit drinking, why I went back after a year sober, and what it took to stop for good—this is the episode for you.

Ep. 263: Have You Tried To Moderate Your Drinking?
If you’ve ever tried to “just have one” or “only drink on weekends,” you’re not alone. Most women I work with try moderating their drinking before they ever take a full break from alcohol. I did it too—for years. I set all the rules: only wine with dinner, no drinks during the week, only on special occasions. And I broke all those rules. Over and over.In this episode of The Hello Someday Podcast, I’m joined by my amazing friend and former client, Marriott. She was where so many women are—trying to moderate her drinking so she’d never have to give it up completely. But eventually, like me, she realized that moderating alcohol wasn't actually working... and it wasn't actually making her happier.I asked Marriott, now the community manager in my Sobriety Starter Kit program, to share how to recognize when moderation is doing more harm than good—and what to do instead. Together we break down the truth about drinking in moderation, why it’s so damn hard to sustain, and how choosing to step away from alcohol fully—even just for 100 days—can lead to real peace, freedom, and joy.For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/have-you-tried-to-moderate-your-drinking/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 262: How to Repair Relationships with Your Children After Stopping Drinking
Stopping drinking is hard enough. But repairing the emotional aftermath that lands at your kids’ feet? That’s a whole different level of brave. Whether your kids are toddlers or teenagers, grown adults or somewhere in between, chances are you’re asking yourself, “How do I talk to them about this?” or “Will they ever trust me again?”In this episode, I asked Janice Johnson Dowd—licensed master social worker, speaker, mom of four, and author of the book Rebuilding Relationships in Recovery—to share how to rebuild trust and connection with your children after quitting drinking. Janice has 12 years of sobriety under her belt and has walked this exact road. She gets how messy and emotional it can be, and she’s here to help you take the first steps forward. As a life and sobriety coach for high-achieving women—and as someone who stopped drinking when my kids were two and eight—I know firsthand that the relationship you have with your children is one of the most powerful motivators to change. But it's also one of the most tender and complicated to repair. That’s why I wanted to have this conversation. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/how-to-repair-relationships-with-your-children-after-stopping-drinking/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 261: How To Overcome Self-Doubt and Navigate Imposter Syndrome (Without Drinking Through It)
If you’ve ever felt like you’re not good enough, like you don’t belong, or like you’re secretly one mistake away from being exposed as a fraud… you’re not alone. That feeling has a name—Imposter Syndrome—and it’s more common than you think, especially for high-achieving women juggling work, family, sobriety, and everything else life throws your way.Imposter Syndrome (or as my guest calls it, “the imposter phenomenon”) is the belief that your accomplishments are a fluke and that you’re going to be found out as a fraud—despite all the evidence that you’re actually doing just fine (and maybe even killing it).In this episode, I asked Dr. Jill Stoddard—licensed psychologist, coach, TEDx speaker, and author of Imposter No More—to share how we can manage imposter syndrome using tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychological flexibility, and values-based living. Her work helps women stop hustling for their worth and start showing up for the life they want—even if they feel anxious, unsure, or scared. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/how-to-navigate-imposter-syndrome-without-drinking-through-it/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 260: How To Get Help From Your Doctor If You’re Struggling With Alcohol
If you're worried about your drinking and wondering how your doctor can help, you’re not alone. So many women I talk to want support—but they’re unsure what to say, how it’ll show up in their medical file, or whether their doctor will even take them seriously. You might worry about being judged, dismissed, or told to “just cut back” or “go to AA.”That’s why I asked Megan Popp, a family nurse practitioner with almost six years of alcohol-free living and 15 years of recovery from an eating disorder, to join me on the podcast. She’s the founder of Northside Forsyth Family Medicine & Geriatrics and brings not only clinical expertise—but also lived experience—to this conversation. I asked Megan to share how to talk to your doctor about your drinking, what to say (and not say), and how your primary care provider can actually support your recovery.I’m Casey McGuire Davidson, a life and sobriety coach for high-achieving women who are sober curious or ready to break out of the drinking cycle. I host The Hello Someday Podcast because I know how hard it is to juggle work, marriage, kids, anxiety, and overwhelm—and still feel like alcohol is the only thing holding you together. In this episode, you’ll get practical advice you can use right away to start advocating for your health, even if you're nervous to bring up your drinking. The goal of this episode is to help you feel empowered and prepared. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, sleep issues, physical symptoms, or just feel in your gut that alcohol might be part of the problem, here’s how to talk to your doctor and get real support—not judgment. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/how-to-get-help-from-your-doctor-if-youre-struggling-with-alcohol/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 259: Why Moms Do It All and How To Get Your Partner To Do More
If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything in your household—while your partner somehow has time to watch SportsCenter or scroll on their phone—you’re not alone.Managing the invisible load of running a home and family can feel like an unpaid, full-time job on top of everything else you do. And if you’re navigating sobriety, the stress, resentment, and exhaustion can feel even heavier—because now you’re no longer using alcohol as a “reward” or a way to take the edge off.I asked Eve Rodsky, author of Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live), to share how you can rebalance the division of labor in your home, set boundaries that stick, and reclaim your time—without the guilt, resentment, or endless arguments. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/why-moms-do-it-all-and-how-to-get-your-partner-to-do-more/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 258: How to Navigate Life As A Stepmom In A Blended Family (Without Drinking Through the Stress)
Stepmom life is no joke. It’s one of the hardest, most emotionally challenging roles to take on—yet most of us step into it completely unprepared for the rollercoaster ahead. You’re trying to blend two families, manage different parenting styles, navigate tricky dynamics with an ex, and build a strong relationship with kids who may or may not accept you.Oh, and while you’re at it, you’re also supposed to stay calm, keep your marriage strong, and not lose yourself in the process. No wonder so many stepmoms end up pouring a glass of wine (or three) just to cope. But here’s the truth: drinking through the stress doesn’t actually make it easier. It just numbs the emotions temporarily—only to bring them back stronger the next day, with a side of regret and exhaustion. In this episode, we’re talking about how to navigate stepmom life without numbing out with alcohol—how to handle the stress, overwhelm, and uncertainty with real tools that actually help. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/how-to-navigate-life-as-a-stepmom-in-a-blended-family-without-drinking-through-the-stress/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. Ep. 257: Rebuilding Trust With Your Body In Sobriety
If you’re a sober curious woman or in the early stages of sobriety, chances are you’ve spent years feeling disconnected from your body. Whether it was waking up with hangovers, feeling puffy and bloated, trying (and failing) to diet while still drinking, or just feeling uncomfortable in your skin—your relationship with your body may feel strained. Here’s the truth: rebuilding trust with your body is one of the most powerful gifts of sobriety. And it starts with learning how to nourish, respect, and listen to your body—without punishment, restriction, or outdated diet culture rules. In this episode, I’m talking with Katy Harvey, a non-diet dietitian, intuitive eating expert, and host of The Rebuilding Trust with Your Body Podcast. Katy helps women ditch dieting, reduce stress around food, and make peace with their bodies so they can feel comfortable in their own skin and live more fully. She’s here to help us untangle years of conditioning around body shame, diet culture, and restrictive eating patterns that often show up when women stop drinking. For the full shownotes, kindly go to this podcast episode link: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/rebuilding-trust-with-your-body-in-sobriety/4 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living MoreJoin The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women.
