Bullet Points | Is it ok to stop being polite?
I was made absolutely furious by a situation this week. Actually, it's more accurate to say I became furious at myself this week because I was too polite in a situation where I should have been assertive. It begs the question, when is it ok to stop being polite? To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Caroline Goyder | The career-ending risk that paid off.
It’s always a pleasure to welcome guests back onto the podcast and Caroline Goyder is no exception. She first appeared on the show in 2019 to share her expertise on how to speak with confidence in public but she shared so much more.I was surprised to learn her biggest risk was giving a TEDx Talk on speaking confidently, given that was how I had discovered her. But, as she explains, it was a huge risk because if it didn’t go well, it could be a career-ending move.Caroline’s books are available now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> NewsletterHey! Emma Hoareau | The Fakeness of Instagram and Finding Body Confidence
Emma Hoareau is a self-confessed skincare obsessive and a social media influencer with a huge following across Instagram and Youtube. From her curated feed you could think her life is perfect and nothing bothers her but, as she explains during our conversation, she’s faced crises of confidence over her creative ability, taken time to feel positive and at peace in her own skin and, as a result of so much change in her childhood, has an almost cavalier approach to change.Emma’s creative mentorship and collection How To By Emma is open to mentees now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Michael Maisey | How facing death made one man embrace life.
Trigger warning: this episode contains references to suicide.I’ve said it before and it’s highly likely I’ll say it again… One of the best things about creating this podcast is getting to have conversations with and see the world through someone else’s eyes. Seeing it through Michael Maisey’s lens, as someone who spent the majority of his teens in the prison system, overcame heroin addiction and survived a suicide attempt, who is now a successful businessman and motivational speaker is a real privilege.I ask all my guests what their relationship is like with risk and, as you can imagine, Michael’s answer is completely unique. His life experiences have given him an incredible perspective and his struggles have motivated him to be the helping hand someone else, who finds themselves at the thin end of opportunity and privilege, needs.I’m not going to lie, this conversation is INTENSE and deeply thought-provoking. Michael’s book Young Offender is available now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Chloe Madeley | Shunning media spotlight, banning comments section and the life-changing benefits of weight training.
It would be wildly inappropriate for me to have favourites when it comes to my podcast guests - I love them all! - but Chloe Madeley is what dream podcast guests are made of: self-aware, articulate and ready to tell their story. As ever, we start with risk, and how Chloe made the choice to step back from the world of media to pursue personal training after one weightlifting session, quite literally, changed her life, her mental and physical health. We discuss so much more from self-worth, being the target of the media glare, growing up with famous parents and why she believes so passionately that comments sections should be banned.Chloe’s books are available now and The EC Method is currently open for enrollment.
