Taylor James | The Power of saying 'No' and the life-changing benefits of self belief.
Taylor James is the host of award-winning podcast Waffle Shop and in this conversation we get extremely deep. What we both have in common is an inability to hold back when it comes to discussing our own mental health so buckle up as we navigate the depths of depression, clawing your way back to becoming a person you like, trying to not be such a sensitive soul and much more.Taylor also opens up about his sexuality and the things in life that have held him back, even if they only existed in his own head. He also shares how life changed in an instant when a routine operation changed his mother's life forever meaning that he had to make life or death decisions. It's deep, it's emotional and we hope it's helpful. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Bullet Points | An Invitation from Kim Kardashian
This week's behind-the-scenes involves an exclusive event from Skims Swim, which I would never have been able to say 'yes' to if I hadn't challenged the way I have always done things. Davinia Taylor | Hormone hacking, getting out of your own way and putting yourself first.
If you Google 'Davinia Taylor' you'll likely find one of two things at the top of your search results: images from the early Noughties of Davinia swigging out of a bottle of Dom Perignon or a more recent one of her looking overweight, swollen and uncomfortable. She was the ultimate IT girl but years of excess had left her feeling terrible. Determined not to feel sluggish, foggy and slow one single day more, Davinia committed to turning her life around one tiny change at a time. What started with a cold shower to boost her dopamine levels started a deep-dive investigation into the other free hacks she could use to shake off a feeling she hated and instead feel energise, vital and motivated. It's been a journey and it's one she shares here. What's worked for Davinia might not work for you but what is absolutely undeniable is how committing to making positive changes, one at time, might be boring and the opposite of a 'quick fix' but boy, does it work!I'm thrilled to have Davinia back on the show because her unrelenting energy and enthusiasm to be better and feel better is infectious.Davinia's books are available here and her supplements are available here.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Alex Light | Reinventing herself, navigating the world as a sensitive soul and unlearning toxic diet culture.
She's back! Alex Light returns to the podcast and she is, as it to be expected, an absolute joy to talk to and a very special guest indeed. Now, full disclosure, Alex and I are friends and we are similar in a lot of ways, not least the fact that we can get pretty deep, pretty quickly once we start chatting and that's what happened in this episode. We talk about Alex's biggest risk, of course, which was to pivot from a content creator who focussed on fashion and beauty into someone who spoke openly about her own experience with an eating disorder and body image issues to now being one of social media's most-followed accounts for sensible non-toxic messaging around food and our bodies. We spend a lot of time pondering whether it's any coincidence that two people who are both sensitive souls have had trouble with their sense of identity that has spilled over into how they feel about how they look and how they care for themselves.I loved this conversation with Alex because I truly feel we would have had exactly the same conversation over lunch. It's real, it's raw and it's honest.I hope you enjoy this episode. And if you do, please do give The Emma Guns Show a sweet little five-star rating where it is you get your podcasts.Hey! Bullet Points | I am not taking Ozempic.
It's time for a little review and a look back at the changes we've made on the podcast this year as well as what YOU'D like to see in the future. Plus, based on one listener's email, I ask whether you want more habits and/or lifestyle content from me. Oh, and I dispel a rumour that's been going around...To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Scott Walker | A hostage negotiator on staying calm in a crisis and the many ways you can look at risk.
If you’re a long-time listener then you’ll know I love tapping into other people’s expertise, especially when it’s sp specific yet somehow incredibly applicable to everyday life. Case-in-point: hostage negotiator Scott Walker. We obviously enter this conversation via Scott’s insights on risk, which when you consider what he does for a living, is truly fascinating. I can’t even imagine what risks one has to consider when bartering with kidnappers but Scott actually thinks there’s more than one way to look at risk, which is a perspective I really appreciated.Scott’s book Order Out of Chaos is available now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Bullet Points | Do you want a quick fix?
Perhaps social media is to blame but it's never been easier to find people who say they can help you with everything from body image issues, business woes, mental health and more. But I have to wonder how much help there really is behind shareable memes and pretty Instagram feeds - and I'd like to know what you think...To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey! Carrie & David Grant | Raising neurodivergent and non-binary children.
Well, what a lovely reunion this was. 18 years after I first interviewed Carrie and David Grant when they were on Fame Academy we meet again. And what a conversation! Not only do they guide me through the most significant risks they’ve navigated, including whether or not to have children when they were so happy just the two of them, but they also describe what it’s been like navigating parenting four neurodivergent children, three who identify as non-binary or trans and who have struggled with their mental health. They were when I met them nearly two decades ago, warm, compassionate and generous and they are precisely the same all these later and want nothing more than to share what they’ve learned with others.Carrie & David’s book A Very Modern Family is available now.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Hey!
