54: Rock-Bottom to Ringing the Bell with CEO Shawn Nelson: Chapter 11 Bankruptcy to Going Public with Lovesac and All the Leadership and Life Lessons He's Learned

As a teenage kid fresh out of high school, Shawn Nelson came up with the idea of making his own bean bag with foam that caught on like wildfire across the US within a few years. As his business LoveSac took off, he also won a million dollar investment from Richard Branson on the hit TV show Rebel Billionare. Like many businesses that grow super quickly, LoveSac hit a rock bottom in those early years as they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Shawn explains to me what it was like to stick with his business and rebuild, the lessons he learned in leadership and overcoming adversity, and what they had to do to build all the way back up to the point of going public in June of 2018. He explains why LoveSac is now totally focused on sustainability and helping families grow with sactionals that will literally last them a lifetime. Shawn shares with me some of his personal values that he's established over the years too, why being a family man is the most important thing to him and how he manages to make the entire LoveSac organization feel like family too.  Show Notes:Shawn’s blog DFL Group (Designed For Life) https://dflgroup.org/Lovesac’s page https://www.lovesac.com/Shawn’s Vlog https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFy8VVTRnCGrWtF3n_rvVqAInstagram @shawnoflovesac https://www.instagram.com/shawnoflovesac/?hl=enFB https://www.facebook.com/ShawnOfLovesac/Twitter @shawnoflovesac https://twitter.com/shawnoflovesac?lang=enShawn’s book recommendations:Good to Great by Jim Collins https://amzn.to/2uESEvfThe Advantage by Patrick Lencioni https://amzn.to/2tRwoOhPurple Cow by Seth Godin https://amzn.to/31MblcoPsycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz https://amzn.to/37m6e47The Accidental Superpower by Peter Zeihan https://amzn.to/37n3aoj Produced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

53: Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife: Let’s Talk About Sex! Why the Struggle is So Real in Marriages and What to Do About It

Today’s episode is very different from our normal lineup. We’re talking about intimacy in marriage and so if you have littles in the room, now would be a good time to push pause and either find some headphones or wait until later to listen. We go in depth on this topic as Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife answers all of my burning questions (and yours from a question box on Instagram stories) about sex and marriage and how you can improve your marital intimacy. This episode is intended for married couples and is definitely not intended for a young audience or single people trying to abstain from sex.Jennifer Finlayson-Fife is a relationship and sexuality educator and coach, as well as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois with a Ph.D in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. She wrote her dissertation on LDS women and sexuality, has taught college-level courses on human sexuality, and currently teaches online relationship and sexuality courses and live workshops to LDS individuals and couples.  The opinions in this episode are those of Dr. Finlayson-Fife and do not necessarily represent the opinions of the church of Jesus Christ although she and I are both members. I hope you’ll take from this episode what’s helpful to you and feels right, and leave, if anything, whatever does not.I’m so grateful for Dr. Finlayson-Fife taking the time to record this episode with me and especially on the week of Valentines Day, I hope it helps bring many married couples closer together.  Show Notes:Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife’s website and online courses http://www.finlayson-fife.com/Get 20% off her courses for Valentines Day! Dr. Finlayson-Fife’s podcast archive http://www.finlayson-fife.com/podcast-archiveBook 101 Nights of Great Sex https://amzn.to/37ysB7bGo to hellonoemie.com/mintarrow to get $50 off your 1st purchase with promo code mintarrow Produced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

50: Senior Missionaries Before Retirement: The Story of my Parents Grant and Si Foster Deciding to Serve an 18 Month Mission Before They Retire.

My parents have always talked about going on a service mission for our church together someday for as long as I can remember, but the plan was always for them to leave after retirement age. They shocked my siblings and me about a year ago at Christmas time when they announced to our family they'd be leaving on an 18 month mission to Barcelona Spain in 2020, NOT because my dad was retiring early, but because they felt extremely impressed that this was the will of the Lord. Today we walk through both of their a-typical journeys in faith and growing up in less-than-ideal circumstances as young church members, where my dad gained his burning love for missionary work and how my mom became truly converted to the gospel, and the crazy back-story of deciding to put my dad's career on hold for 18 months to serve as missionaries for a year and a half in Spain. You'll also hear more about what Senior Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints typically do, and what their advice is to anyone else considering serving a mission.Show Notes: Si Foster’s blog https://abountifulkitchen.com/ Si’s Instagram @abountifulkitchen https://www.instagram.com/abountifulkitchen/ Go to zola.com/mintarrow and use promo code SAVE50 to get 50% off your save the dates Go to hellonoemie.com/mintarrow to see their collections and get $50 off your first purchase by using code MINT ARROW Produced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
