70: Jennifer Borget on Black Lives Matter: How to be Part of REAL Changes in Anti-Racism
After an emotional and historical day, watching the nation and even the world come together to amplify the message that Black Lives Matter in response to George Floyd’s death, I reached out to my friend Jennifer Borget on blackout Tuesday and she graciously agreed to come back on the podcast and discuss anti-racism with me. She also has an incredibly unique perspective as a black woman in an inter-racial marriage, married to a white police officer, so we talked about her experiences and suggestions on uniting instead of dividing people during this time. She explains why the phrase “all lives matter” isn’t helpful and what IS helpful and productive in supporting this message, how to stand up and say something tactfully when someone makes a racist comment, and what to do if you’ve messed up in the past and want to make it right. I’m so thankful to Jennifer for sharing her voice today and for the positive influence she is in my life and so many others. www.drinkhydrant.com/mintarrow for 25% off your first order! 66: Honesty and Integrity: Why This Lost Virtue is so Vital in Business and a Happy Life
A few nights ago, Neil and I got into a deep discussion about the need for integrity and how it seems to be less and less common in the world, and more and more accepted as just “the way things are” or have to be. We felt strongly that today’s episode needed to be on honesty and integrity, in business, in our personal lives, and in recovery. Neil shares his perspective as a recovering addict and I share some examples of business and personal times where I’ve faced the option to be honest or yield to temptation to cut corners, and we share why we believe honesty really does pay off in the end. New York Times best selling author and soon to be podcast host Greg McKeown shares with me today some of the philosophies that he teaches in his well-known book Essentialism, a book that quite honestly transformed my life! He talks about the art of saying no, of really getting back to what matters most in life, and how that can set you free to live the life you were intended to live. 64: Sharing Faith Fearlessly: Tips on Sharing Your Testimony in Authentic Natural Ways
I love to share about the gospel of Jesus Christ with my online audience, but it wasn't always that way! Today Neil and I dig into the topic of sharing about your faith online or with others around you, fearlessly and without hesitation. We talk about why it was so scary at first, how I got over that fear and what led me to a passion for sharing the gospel online. We talk about what topics people are seeking answers for most and how to share in natural and effective ways, why it's a lie that you can't talk about faith at work or school, and how to get help with and get better at sharing your faith with others. 63: Infertility Awareness: Kendyl Madsen (Corrine's best friend) Shares About Her Struggles with Infertility Including 4 Miscarriages and 3 Rounds of IVF to Get Her Two Miracle Babies Here
Infertility affects about 6.1 million women in the united states alone, according to the CDC. And since April is infertility and infant loss awareness month, I asked one of my very best friends Kendyl Madsen, who knows the struggle of infertility better than almost anyone else I know, to share her story of getting her two babies here after hundreds of shots, tests and three full rounds of IVF. Kendyl was gracious enough to share her entire journey of ups and downs with getting pregnant and losing pregnancies, what they tried, how it felt, and most importantly, what helped her most from friends and loved ones who supported her through these trials. I'm confident that Kendyl's story will provide a lot of hope for other couples hoping to get pregnant, and more understanding and compassion for those who have loved ones who struggle with infertility or infant loss and how we can best support them. 61: Alcoholism Awareness Month: Where to Find Help + AA 12-Step Concepts That Will Help Anyone Right Now
Alcohol Awareness Month is a public health program organized by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence as a way of increasing outreach and education regarding the dangers of alcoholism and issues related to alcohol. The program was started in April 1987 with the intention of targeting college-aged students who might be drinking too much as part of their newfound freedom. It has since become a national movement to draw more attention to the causes and effects of alcoholism as well as how to help families and communities deal with drinking problems. Since Neil and I are well acquainted with the 12 steps of recovery, and especially since Neil began his recovery journey in a traditional 12 step non-denominational meeting founded on the principles of AA, we decided this month we would share some of the basic concepts behind Alcoholics Anonymous, especially since right now in isolation so many people are suffering with their addictions or realizing they might have a problem that they need help with. We really believe this topic will reach everyone at some point in some capacity, whether you yourself struggle with addiction or someone you love does. We hope that today’s episode sheds light on an issue that’s sometimes hard to find solid solutions with, and that if you know someone who might be struggling that you’ll share it with them.
