79: Volunteering with Death: Firefighter Nurse Kris Jenkins' Story of Helping in NYC During the Height of the Pandemic

Kris Jenkins works for the Salt Lake Fire Department as a firefighter, paramedic and as a registered nurse for a Salt Lake hospital Emergency Room. Kris and I went to high school together and I found out on our 2003 facebook reunion page about his heroic effort to leave his family for a month and volunteer during the height of the pandemic in New York. Today Kris shares his inspiring story of why he felt compelled to go volunteer in New York as a nurse, what it was like to work every single day for a month straight with only ONE day off, how he was reassigned immediately upon arrival from the ER to the ICU where every single patient he cared for was fighting for their life with Covid-19. I came away from this interview with so much gratitude and a deeper appreciation for all the health heroes who have been on the front-lines of fighting coronavirus this year and I hope you will too. www.naturalcycles.com/MINTARROW for 20% off an annual subscription plus a FREE thermometer!  Show Notes:Chris’ blog about his experience as a Nurse in NYC https://krisjenkins7.wixsite.com/website?fbclid=IwAR3lGRvIzcBrbj5vR77HZcZCmR3cbNjddN7azWTlh974qVR0AFcmlJHzKZg Produced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

78: Cancel Culture, Second Chances, and Forgiveness

Do you know what “cancel culture” actually means? It’s okay if you didn’t, we didn’t either until recently. Today we discuss cancel culture, some recent examples in the media and talk through the dynamic social media plays in our world on whether people should have second chances. This leads us to talk about forgiveness and Neil opens up about his feelings toward the people who shot and killed his brother Dave 18 months ago, and what he’s doing to process and work through that situation. We conclude with some thoughts about how cancel culture can be a good thing when done in the right way, and how to move toward forgiveness if you’re struggling with that too. www.naturalcycles.com/MINTARROW for 20% off an annual subscription Plus a FREE thermometer! Show Notes: Morgan Scalley article https://www.si.com/college/utah/football/what-were-the-details-of-the-morgan-scalley-investigation James E. 75: Civility in Unrest: Why We Desperately Need More Kindness and Awareness in Times of Trouble

Have you noticed that during the most crazy year that any of us have ever seen in our lifetime, we’re also seeing common courtesy and civility fade, especially in online interactions? Today Neil and I discuss why civility, kindness and respect are SO KEY to making progress and surviving all the challenges we face in this world. We talk about why it’s vital that we pay attention to what we’re saying in front of our kids, and the tone we’re using to express our opinions, putting ourselves in the shoes of others before criticizing, and just offering more grace and kindness to others as we navigate our families through uncharted waters. Show Notes: “Standing for Something” Gordon B.
