Adaptogens plant-derived chemicals whose activity helps the body maintain or regain homeostasis  Cholinergics choline-based class of smart drugs play important cognitive roles in memory, attention, and mood regulation.  Seratonegenics primary neurotransmitter and controls major features of the mental landscape including mood, sleep and appetite.  Dopaminergics promotes attention and alertness by either increasing the efficacy of dopamine within the brain, or inhibiting the enzymes that break dopamine down Metabolic Function Smart Drugs provide mental benefits by generally facilitating the body's metabolic processes related to the production of new tissues and the release of energy from food and fat stores The Three Must-Have Supplements For A Bulletproof Brain In as difficult of an answer as it was with all the powerful and brain-boosting supplements out there, Jesse was kind enough to share the three supplements he never leaves home without (and two bonus) Learn more about Jesse's stack Racetam Fish oil (Omega 3) Creatine NEXUS (15% off using code WELLFX)

035 Stacy Conlon: Your Guide To A Mindful Life

Caution! This episode will allow you to breathe deep, be still, and relax so please be careful if driving while listening to this episode on Your Guide To A Mindful Life :) Support Wellness Force Radio:  RATE & REVIEW in iTunes | SUBSCRIBE in iTunes  Discovery: Why Digital Health Coaching  Your Guide To A Mindful Life Stacy Conlon, also known as The Zen Girl, is a Certified Wellness Coach and Mindfulness Facilitator who helps people transform stress into peace. A yoga and meditation practitioner for the past 15 years, she leads guided meditations and mindfulness sessions for startups and enterprise companies. Stacy is also the Business Development Manager for the Lean Startup Training Program and Labs Summit Series. With more than 15 years experience in sales and marketing, her goal is to help startups and enterprise companies get the tools, training and exposure they need make their organizations more successful. Doing the Work Stacy's life wasn't always filled with deep breaths and peaceful sunrises. She's had to learn this practice by doing the work. Day after day, with her mindfulness and meditation practices, Stacy shares vulnerably about her dance with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed, and how having a foundation for her physical and emotional wellness is essentially what gives her more power, presence and energy in her busy life. We talk a lot about wellness technology and behavior change on the show, so of course as the 2016 machine begins to unfold, there has never been a better (and more important) time to learn a new system of habits that can give us more energy when we need it the most. In my own wellness journey, meditation has meant a world of difference; from the way I eat to the way I interact with others. Even with the knowledge of all the potential energy found in the practice of meditation however, there is a natural resistance to sitting still in this busy fast paced world; it can be one of the most difficult things to do. Doing nothing. Just "being" a human being. Whatever way you get there, know that finding a still and quiet space where it's just you and your breath doesn't have to be daunting and time consuming. As Stacy will share, some of the most powerful meditative experiences can happen in less than just 5 minutes. Worry Less, Live More In working with clients, what comes up a lot is not having the time to meditate and it not being important. Paradoxically, what is hidden in the restorative power of mindfulness and meditation is transformation. See this example from Stacy's blog: "Most of us have had the experience of learning something new such as a sport, an instrument or a second language. In the beginning, it’s challenging and requires a lot of concentration. However, over time it becomes easier, requires less effort and you improve. Mindfulness works in a similar way. We know from the latest neuroscience research that we have the ability to create new neural pathways in our brain. That means our brains can literally transform through experience. Mindfulness is mental exercise — a workout for your brain. And like a muscle, these neural pathways get stronger and more effective over time. This leads to dozens of health benefits, including less worry, fear, anxiety and stress — the oftentimes root cause of unhappiness, illness and disease." Listen as Stacy Uncovers How to reduce stress and practice mindfulness and meditation in a busy world. By 2008, I had proven to myself that the Medical Establishment was wrong and what I ate actually did have an effect on my digestive system’s health (Imagine that…).   After years and years of experimentation with a number of different approaches, I arrived at Paleo mostly by trial and error.   In 2008-2009, the Paleo community was large and visible enough – mostly thanks to CrossFit and Robb Wolf – that I was able to find my way full circle and embrace a Paleo lifestyle with a ton of Community support." - Adam Farrah Using Practical Spirituality In the age of over-information and radically packed family and work schedules, Adam has found personal and professional growth by using the power of what he calls "Quantum Evolution" in the vehicles of yoga, meditation, chakras, and tarots. Beyond just paleo, Adam is shifting his focus in 2016 to begin integrating practical spirituality in coaching, speaking, writing, and in contribution to the wellness industry via his popular website. In episode 33, we discuss how Adam has used medical marijuana, practical spirituality, paleo dieting, and alternative healing to help overcome his own dependency to pharmaceuticals, depression and health issues to transform the way he works with clients. A Winding Path Towards Wholeness  From Adam's Blog: "A Winding Path Toward Wholeness… It’s over 10 years ago now that I started down a path toward recovering my health and healing my life. It’s been a challenging and detour-filled journey. 030 Mac Gambill: Changing Old Habits With New Technology

Today's special guest is a true pioneer in digital health and wellness technology. As the CEO and co-founder of NudgeCoach.com, Mac Gambill has created a swell of momentum in creating digital tools that are driving the change we must see in the fitness and wellness industries.   Mac's company, Nudge Coach, is focused on helping health coaches turn their passion into a sustainable business through continuing education and a market-leading software platform. His platform combines data from health tracking apps with a streamlined notification and messaging system to enable coaches to better manage deeper connections with their clients.   In today's show, Mac uncovers how literally anyone with the desire to lose weight and change old habits now has a more powerful way to do so with this cutting edge new technology.  Changing Old Habits With New Technology Beyond the weight loss stories of people losing over 100lbs with Nudge, his company is literally changing the landscape of how coaches and trainers are working with clients; finally closing the ever-widening gap in fitness between too much knowledge and too little execution.   I’ve mentioned previously on the podcast about our up and coming Digital Health Coaching groups where I’ve used Nudge to help my clients get results, and I’m excited today to have Mac share his insight and action steps to help uncover: How we can change old habits with new technology What your data says about your life Why fitness industry is fundamentally broken and how digital health can save it How coaches, nutritionists, trainers and health & wellness professionals can leverage this technology to grow In an age of over-information, the modern day lifestyle now demands more that the current fitness industry can handle. What frustrated me most as a pro trainer after working in gyms for 10 years was that I never really knew what my clients were doing in the 165 hours they weren’t in session with me.    In over 10,000 sessions as a fitpro, I eventually became burnt out with my clients not getting the results they deserved to have. A New Paradigm After stretching my coaching practice to include Group Training, Corrective Exercise, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, Metabolic Typing, and getting certified in handfuls of other fitness and wellness courses, I still intuitively felt that something was missing from my toolset:   Increased client accountability.   The one thing that coaching and training for over a decade has taught me, is that to have knowledge is one thing, but to execute on that knowledge is another.   On a higher level, the uncomfortable truth in the wellness and fitness industry today is that there is a massive gap between knowing what to do and having the system in place to actually do it.   This is where Digital Health Coaching has changed the playing field. Personal Gold After seeing the power of digital health applications and devices in late 2014 during a screening of the film "Personal Gold," I drove home with the seed planted for an ultimate coaching "ah-ha" moment.   On the way home that night, I thought about how the 2012 USA Olympic Women's Cycling team had won a silver medal using quantified self, digital health and mHealth.   Then, a lighting bolt shot through my brain:   I realized that the very same wellness technology that can help win medals for athletes has the ubiquitous power to help change poor health habits for regular people.   This began a 16 month journey in searching for the "dream ecosystem" where I'd be able to coach clients using the data their bodies created. After hunting, failing, and getting knocked down, I finally found a platform called "Nudge Coach" that changed my coaching and my business forever.      If you are a health coach, gym owner, fitness pro, nutritionist and this sounds like it could help grow your business and get your clients superior results, join me and Nudge for a free webinar about using digital health to grow your current practice.   Register For The Free Live Webinar on December 8th 2pm PST 5pm EST

029 Dr. Neema Moraveji: Master Your Breathing

What can the power of breath actually do for reducing stress in our busy society? Can tracking our own breathing be a catalyst for new healthy behavior changes? On today's show, we answers those powerful questions and more, with inventor and world-class expert in the design and study of technologies that promote healthy and high-performing states of mind, Dr. Neema Moraveji. The Power of The Breath Dr. Moraveji is co-founder and chief product officer of Spire, the first wearable to track and influence both activity and state of mind. Early this year, I was fortunate enough to attend the 2015 Quantified Self Conference at Fort Mason center in San Francisco, where I met Dr. Neema and experienced his invention of a groundbreaking breath tracking and mindfulness technology device live and in person. The results were shocking. Support Wellness Force Radio:  RATE & REVIEW in iTunes | SUBSCRIBE in iTunes  In just a few short minutes after working with Dr. Neema while using SPIRE, I felt the most relaxed I'd been all week. Pretty amazing, especially when you consider that over 10 people were watching me in a crowded, loud and busy expo floor throughout the entire exercise! Tracking Our Breath Beyond just a wearable device, his invention SPIRE is literally transforming the way that wellness and fitness use breathing techniques, cues, and strategies for better health. We understand that tracking steps and calories is the quantified self in real life action, but can the breath tell us powerful insights about our health and how we manage stress? As director of Stanford University’s Calming Technology Lab, he studies how interactive products can mitigate the damaging and distracting effects of acute and chronic stress. He teachers the popular “Designing Calm” at the Stanford Design School and his work has been covered in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and NPR among other esteemed publications. Dr. Moraveji is co-founder and chief product officer of Spire, the first wearable to track and influence both activity and state of mind. Master Your Breathing His TEDxBayArea talk "What Your Breath Is Telling You," Dr. Moraveji uncovers the way you breathe shows how much tension, calm, and focus you have in your life. He discusses how the millennia-year old science of respiratory psychophysiology can be leveraged today with wearable sensors to help us improve focus, reduce stress, and live with balance in daily life. Dr. Neema received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland at College Park and his M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D., “Augmented Self-Regulation“, from Stanford University.  Listen As Dr, Neema Uncovers: How new technology can help us in designing calm in our lives The power of breath on weight loss, wellness, and health How to discover what makes you calm and focused at work and at home Links From Today's Show Dr. Neema's work at Stanford Spire Website Mark Divine - Box breathing technique GIFT: Save 20% off SPIRE as a holiday gift from Dr. Neema Buy SPIRE Now Awareness  "When we describe why Spire measures breath, almost all people have an ‘a-ha’ moment given their personal experience with the power of breath." - Dr. Neema Moraveji "Your state of mind influences your brain and cardiorespiratory system quite rapidly. 028 Physiotherapist Caitlin Reid: Life After Injury

On boxing day in 2013, Caitlin broke her back in an accident and burst the first vertebrae of her lower spine.  In the few weeks while she was in a full back brace, she grew nauseous from the medication, frustrated from the pain, and began to realize that she'd have to pull from deep inside herself to face the challenges of what would come next. Support Wellness Force Radio:  RATE & REVIEW in iTunes | SUBSCRIBE in iTunes    Not getting the advice and healing strategies she needed from traditional medicine, she decided to rely on her emotional strength and ultimately had to make a powerful choice: Either be a victim or a victor of her circumstance. Life After Injury  Thanks to the fracture type and her knowledge of the benefits of holistic medicine, she made a full recovery through dedication, hard work, and most importantly, the right mindset. She reflected on all the patients she’d treated who had told her they felt alone, frustrated with their medication and had no idea how to start their road to recovery and wellness. She knew first-hand what it’s like to experience a road-block in your life, whether it be an injury, work stress, or lack of motivation. Caitlin started Pilates one week later, and was at the gym every third day; also participating in a fun meditation and mindfulness class to help her overcome the frustration of having an injury (and wearing a very hot brace in the Australian summer!)   The Power To Change Even though she was frustrated with her injury, she also felt so incredibly lucky: Not only because she was certain she would make a full recovery, but thanks to her professional knowledge, she knew exactly what it would take to get back to her active life.
