Question number one is from my homie who I've done training with, my friend, Ian Vogel. Let's tune in to what Ian has to say. Now, Mar, you and I picked this question because don't we, you and I, practice language together all the time, the most empowering language? Every single day. Yes. Before you had heard about this concept of language and like using language, had it ever come into your awareness the way that we use it with each other? Sometimes, but more Not in a sense like paying attention to every single word, but more like how I talk to myself in my head, especially. So like taking myself down and just like calling myself names when I do something wrong and just like these little details, but I haven't thought about it before in relation to other people and like how I actually express myself. So it was more about the inner talk. Yeah. Inner dialogue is definitely where outer dialogue comes from. That is for sure, which we're going to talk about in the critical factor today from Ian's question. So let's listen to what Ian has to say. Josh Trent, my man. I hope you're doing well. As always, I love the content you're putting out. My question for you revolves around language. Are there any words that you intentionally don't use because you find that they can impede your ability to communicate with somebody. For example, the first thing that pops into my head is the word shaman. I intentionally don't use that word because it seems to have a different meaning for everybody. And I find that using that word just muddies the water. So I'm curious, are there any words or maybe speech patterns that you intentionally don't use because they get in the way? And if there are, how would you determine, or what's your criteria for determining whether a word is actually useful or not, or if you should banish it? And maybe a quick follow-up question, Are there any words that you have banished from your dictionary or lexicon intentionally? I'd love to know. So good. Look at the word etymology, right? The word etymology is the study of the origin of words and the way in which that meaning has changed throughout history. I mean, that should be everything we need to know about why language is malleable. And language literally is a spell. So there's a practical scientific explanation for this, and then there's also a more grounded spiritual way to experience this. You know, I'll throw it to you, Mar, so you had said inner dialogue is something that you have been focusing on since we've been working together, And it's been something that I've been aware of since 2008, 2009. Am I perfect at practicing it? No. Do I do my best? Yes. But the one thing for me, and I'm curious how you feel before I go into both spiritual and scientific definitions for Ian, is this. Don't you believe that in communication, whoever uses language and then corrects themselves on the language they use is vulnerable, is authentic, and truly has the most power because there's nothing to hide? There's peacefulness in the way they communicate... [17:30] Blending Two Families Into One Let's go to the next question here. So our next question is from Melissa. I did the training with Melissa as well, too. Our NLP master prac training together. So let's see what Melissa has to say. Hi Josh, it's Melissa from Canada. I wanted to say thank you for the episode that you made with Carrie Michelle and for both sharing so openly in that episode about your experiences. After that time, having some time since then, I was wondering if you had any new learnings that you could share, kind of in general on relationships, and maybe even more specifically anything that you could share from the perspective of someone that, for me, starting a new relationship. So I'm starting a new relationship, I'm formally divorced and I have a child, and he is formally divorced and also has a child. So we are working through what that looks like to bring two families together and all the struggles of the past that we're trying to help each other heal through and move forward and build something. So What are your thoughts on that? Thanks so much, Josh. Amazing. So I can speak from what I know and I'm not gonna speak from what I don't know. What I do know is that even the question that Melissa is asking shows that she has the pure intention to bring healing to a blended family. And that's really what we're talking about, right? It's actually twofold. Before we get to the blended family, let's talk about this. For all y'all that have been through divorce, divorce can feel like the most gut-wrenching, most insane, most growth-producing, by the way, if you approach it from a learning lesson mentality that I think any man or woman could ever go through on planet Earth, really. I can't think of something more painful and more just abrupt to the nervous system, the heart, and the mind. So before you even blend the families, you have to create the container to do so. But the container to do so actually with you, because as we've talked about so much more on these AMAs, it is really about awareness first with everything. It's about know thy self, written on the temple at the Apollo in Greek mythology. So if we understand that the container is anything of creativity, of connection, of a blended family, it starts with, how are we, what is our intention inside of us? And how are we going to put that intention into the space, right? So the intention I would suggest for you would be to go deep within yourself and have a specific practice of emotional inventory. You can listen to our AMAs Or by the way, you can just meditate and get clear from journaling. You don't have to do my EI2 process. I know that it works, cause I do it myself. [28:30] How to Create a Harmonious Relationship Let's move on to the last question. It is from Archer. I met Archer here in Austin. Thank you all so much for what you do. I've got a question for the AMA. In your opinion, what are the top 3 things that men can do to improve and sustain their relationships, and marriages, women and even outside of providing and provision? So yeah, what are the top 3 things men can do to create harmonious, long-lasting, beautiful relationships and marriages? So good. Before I answer this, Mar, what do you think women want from their men? That's the million-dollar question. What do women want? I think most women don't even know what they want. I think that's the main issue. So I think a lot of us, and this is based on Alison Armstrong's work, The Queen's Code, a lot of women just expect to have another woman, somebody who shows up as their bestie, right? As another woman. And when they meet a man, they don't realize that men work and act completely differently than women. And this was a really wake-up call for me. So Alison Armstrong's Queen's Code, it really opened my eyes and I really recommend all the women to listen to it because, oh my God, it's life-changing. Were you a frog farmer? Yes. Oh, big-time frog farmer. Y'all need... y'all get to see. I just caught myself, right? You don't need to listen to the episode because nothing I say you ever have to do. We're just here to present information and a different way of thinking, and you make the conscious choice based on your level of development. Isn't that awesome? There's no pressure. Now that authentic use of language, to go back to Ian's first question. I don't think you have to, I think you get to, you get to understand this concept of are you a frog farmer or not? That'll really help the women who want to connect with their men on a deeper level. And by the way, for men, it's a great read as well. We've done 2 episodes with Alison Armstrong on the podcast. And what I could say to start is, and you touched on it more, it's first and foremost, how do you create long-lasting connection with your wife, with your girlfriend, as a man? First and foremost, you honor our sacred differences. Now, what do I mean by this? A woman is a woman not just for the fact she has different chromosomes than a man, that's a biological difference, which by the way, plays out and shows up in many emotional and mental constructs as well. So first and foremost, if you're the kind of person who doesn't believe that there's a gender, you should probably not listen to this podcast nor ever join our community because we believe in honoring the nature. So that's first and foremost. There is no such thing as a genderless society. There is a society where we honor our sacred differences, both biologically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically, everything. Because here's what happens, like you said, Mar, when a woman gets into a relationship with a man and she's frog farming, which I love that term. It's such a fun term. Allison's so good at what she does. I mean, like multiple decades in just helping women understand men. So y'all get to check out that episode. When a man gets into a relationship, he is not a woman. Who is our first question from? We have Stacie and she's a volleyball coach. So this is going to be interesting because she's teaching young girls. And I'm not sure if boys too, volleyball at high school. All right, let's hear from Stacie because I actually used to coach Volleyball players. This is back in the day, Mission Beach, California. Shout out to the Wave House, which used to exist there. But let's hear from Stacie and how to navigate the stresses of change. Hey Josh, thank you for this opportunity. My question is, I'm going to preface it with, I'm a beach volleyball coach, and I help kids through some first big life transitions, trying to get committed to playing college volleyball. What advice would you give them to manage stepping into something uncomfortable and unknown and what practices would help them navigate the stresses of it? Okay, navigating stress is the big one. So thanks for your question, Stacie. I used to be a coach and I was a trainer for 10 years. And so a lot of what I learned when, I guess it was 10,000 hours plus, actually much more than that, but maybe a baseline 10,000 hours, all human stressors are universal. So we'll just start there. Everybody experiences stress in the same way, but to the degree that our nervous system has been encoded by lowercase and capital T trauma, that's the degree in which we have the capacity to feel our stress or to process our stress. So I actually think if I were to do it all over again when I was coaching the volleyball players and these were women that in the AVP or that were trying out for the AVP. And I remember they were all dealing with the same stuff we were dealing and they had the stressors of performing as an athlete. Now for college volleyball players, they have even less life experience because they're typically, you know, 18 to 20-ish. And so they don't have a big repository of life experience to pull upon. And so the best way that I would do it if I were you, and what I would go back and change in time based on what I know now, is I would actually have an introductory questionnaire, like a PARQ if you're a personal trainer. And I would make sure in that par-q that I did an emotional inventory with the athletes. And I would actually have specific questions laid out so they could get their stress out of their mind and get it onto paper or get it onto a video. Some type of way that you as a coach or you as a guide, that's really what you are. You know, you're half coach and you're also half life coach because the stresses of change happen because these are being pushed to their max. And so whatever their degree of capacity for processing stress is, you have to know that. You have to get inside of their psyche and really understand what has happened in their life to think the way they do. Because the stressors and the things that have happened for them in their life are going up on the court. It's the same way they're gonna play their sport. So I would have a questionnaire that dove deep into emotional inventory. What is your relationship with your mother? What's your relationship with your father? How was childhood for you? Can you scan above your timeline and figure out what were the key events that trained you to associate with stress? And then what are your coping mechanisms? I would have a list for these athletes that their coping mechanisms are raw and honest with themselves. Do they drink? Do they smoke? Do they party? What are the ways in which they mash down their feelings and mash down their fears so you can start helping them decouple from those coping mechanisms? Now, granted, none of this is like psychological advice. I'm not a therapist, but I just see patterns over and over and over and over again in myself with our guests and everyone else. A really powerful resource for this is episode 612 with Dr. Michael Gervais. He was a performance coach for many years, decades for NHL and NFL, and he talks about living an authentic life, and how to stop worrying about what other people think of you... [13:30] The Holistic Health Lens of Homeostasis Let's get to the next question. Who is our next question from here? It's from Hayley and she's asking about holistic health and there's a lot for you on this one. So let's listen to it. Hi Josh. When it comes to holistic health and really getting to the root cause of a person's health and well-being, what system in the body, mind, and spirit are you looking to first? Is it the digestive system? Is it the nervous system? Is it our energetic chakras? From your perspective and from all knowledge and wisdom, what is the first line of defense that you are looking to support and to nourish when we're looking at deep holistic health. It's so good. And I actually was feeling into this earlier. And I wonder, Hayley, are you talking about somebody who is dealing with a health issue? I think Mar and I had a consensus on that, that this is somebody with a health issue. ut also this question pertains to just homeostasis and optimization body, right? The key place to start with everything, everything, everything is the 1 marker in our body that rises when we're under psychological, emotional, mental, financial, or spiritual stress, right? I see things through the wellness lens because that's what I've learned in my life actually moves the needle. The one marker, the very most important thing that everyone gets to be aware of is inflammation. Inflammation is the barometer your body is truly at and the best inflammatory marker that I have come across and seen and we talked about this with Shawn Wells and Daniel Solomons in our episode 618. So just go to JoshTrent.com/618. This marker is called CRP, a C-reactive protein. So C-reactive protein is a measurement of actually what is on in your body? It leads to internal markers of stress, like oxidative stress, a good test for that is from Genova Diagnostics. So CRP and oxidative stress can rise together. Also, CRP can affect HDL-LDL. Also, CRP can affect heart health as a whole. It can affect blood sugar. They all feed into each other. And I guess the best way to describe this would be through a story a metaphor, right? Because that's how we all learn the most. Something I learned from my mentor, Paul Cech, in his book, in 2008, I read this book called How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy. And he talked about our allostatic load. Allostatic load is how much stress is in total from those 5 parts of the self. And also, by the way, relationships are in there as well, right? Relationships are both, relationships are all the things. So relationships are actually encoded into the lens of the wellness Pentagon. So all of these things can raise our CRP. Inflammation is essentially a marker of our body dealing with a stressor that's pulling it out of center or pulling it out of homeostasis. And in his book, Paul talks about allostatic load. Allostatic load, there's a bathtub and the bathtub is your capacity to process stress. And if water is the stress, water is filling up your bathtub, that's your allostatic load. Well, what happens, Hayley, and all of us, when the bathtub starts overflowing, when you're broke, when you're stressed, when there's trauma, when there's relationship stress, or when financially you're just completely crushed, you start to have what's called complete and total dysregulation in your nervous system. That is the water spilling over the edges of the tub. First and foremost, you can't fix everything all at once. You only can fix where you are one thing at a time. So I would absolutely, absolutely recommend using inflammation, specifically CRP, as the barometer for lowering your allostatic load. Now that's going to take many forms because what first, the chicken or the egg, right? Is it the stress that's causing your CRP to rise? Or is it your familial lineage that you actually came into the world with where you're just having a set point for more stress? Like for myself, I've identified hypervigilance from childhood. I also can connect that to in utero with my mother arguing with my father while I was in her body... [23:55] How Men Can Practice Self-Love Let's move on to our very last question. Our very last question is from a dear brother of mine. Who is this and what is their question, Mar? Faraz Khan, he's the host of the Anti-Aging Hacks Podcast. And his question is about self-love, which is, I think, our favorite topic this year, I would say. It's our favorite topic because no 1 taught us how to do it. Let's see what Faraz has to say. Hey Josh, this is Faraz Khan. Hope you're doing amazing. Brother, first of all, I want to acknowledge you and your growth. You've grown so much in the last 2 years that I've known and I just stand in awe of all the work that you're doing. So I love you for that and I'm so honored to be able to do immense work with you. Now I've got a question for you that might be also helpful for the audience. And the question is this, how are you showing up every single day loving yourself more? Because I am going through a practice of self-love and understanding the parts of me that I haven't loved in my childhood and going back to those. And so I'm super curious of what you do, how do you show up every single day with love and grace and compassion for yourself? And when the daily stressors hit you and your nervous system gets dysregulated, how do you bring that back into balance? And how do you hold love for yourself and for your kids and for your family? So I'm super curious about any tips, techniques or practices that you use just for more self-love, brother. Love you. Love you too, man. And I say that with authenticity because it's very rare to have, for men at least, um, a trusted network of real brothers that you can bring things to, you can receive feedback from, and you can really grow with. It's rare because we came, most of us, unless you were blessed, it's not all of us, unless you were blessed with incredibly conscious parents that were on a deep spiritual devotional that then infused into us as children and young adults, the majority of us never had the tools. We did not have the psychological tools. We did not have the emotional intelligence to be able to process the things we feel first and foremost. And I'll say that for men. I do believe that women, and I'm making a reductionistic here, it's a blanket statement. Women have deeper access to their unconscious mind. It's just something I've noticed, and it's something that I believe is part of a woman's gift to the world, to teach men how to be in union with their unconscious. Now, it's not to say that there are incredibly advanced human beings, both men and women, that have deep access to their unconscious. It's just a testament to the work that they do in their life. So the way I would start the answer to this question of how do I show up with love when triggered? How do I be present for myself and my family? How do I hold myself through the stressors of life with unique, specific practices of self-love? And isn't this the crux, Mar? Isn't this the core question for all of us? Like, yes, I understand this question is for men and the women that are listening, please take to heart what I'm gonna say to, you know, gently or even intelligently bring this to your man in your life. But I will say that this is a human question. This isn't necessarily specifically a gender question. This is all human beings that experience this. Here is what happens, and this is a high-level set I'm going to share. When we experience stress, what is stress? Let's just start there. So stress is an input that is perceived as a threat to the body or the mind in some way. That's essentially what stress is. It's an input, it's just information... Is there anything that you would recommend for that? It would be great to know. Thanks a lot. Okay. First of all, amazing question because who can not relate to that, right? Whether you've been in any relationship ever, or whether you're in a 5, 10, or 20-year marriage, these are all really important things to figure out how do we create the most loving place here? How do we get to the most loving place within ourselves first? It is true nature, don't you agree Mar, that our partner is our teacher. In other words, our triggers are invitations for us to look at what bothers us about ourselves. Have you felt that in some way? 100%. It Played out in a relationship that I had a couple of years ago in a way I didn't expect and never wished for but in the end, it showed me the things that I needed to look at and wasn't willing to look at Until I was completely forced to so yeah, they're definitely a teacher Yeah, Jacqueline. I feel you so I'm I'm not in a marriage per se, but I'm in a five-year sacred union on its way to marriage at some point. And I also want to share with you, marriage is a construct that was brought to North America from a place that wasn't fully loving. The original meaning of marriage I think, and I'm going to answer your question here, was to pass land and title. We talked about this in an upcoming with Mark Groves and Kylie Macbeth where we really explored, not just the etymology of the word marriage, but also the origin of marriage. So with that as a speaking point, as a jumping-off point, it's really important to go back to before you were married. Start with the end in mind, but also identify how you started the thing, whatever the thing is. So we're talking about marriage, a sacred relationship. Think about if you could take a deep breath and just close your eyes right now. If you're in your car driving, don't do this, like pull over, but close your eyes, take a deep breath, and float 30,000 feet above your entire life. And look at the most significant points in your marriage or in your relationship, go all the way back to the beginning, Jaclyn. Remember how you felt in your body and in your heart when you met your man, when you fell in love with him when you started to cultivate trust, and when you started to understand that he was the one you, and go back to that. And feel in your body right now what it felt like then. Just take a moment, put your hand on your heart, put your hand on your stomach, take a big deep breath through your nose, feel your belly. Exhale, a couple more times while you're listening. And just know that that is still there... [18:15] Freedom-Focused Care Let's get to the next question. Okay, this next question is from Dr. Stanton Hom, who was a guest on the podcast and he's such an amazing chiropractor just freedom, I don't wanna say freedom fighter cause he's a freedom advocate, right? Whatever we fight against, we fuel. So he's a great freedom advocate. He's an incredible father and podcast host. Make sure you check out Future Generations. Let's hear from Stanton. My brother Josh, Dr. Stanton Hom here, future generations. I feel like I've been on a 3-and-a-half, 4-year deployment. Being someone who is a combat veteran, somebody who has seen his friends die in combat, I sit here in the wake of this four-year psychological operation. I feel very blessed that you and I have had several conversations illuminating many of the sources, many of the root causes, but also many of the ways that humanity has responded in the most inspiring ways, but also in some of the most in many respects negligent or absent ways. I'm curious what you think is the key right? The powers that be, those people pulling the puppet strings behind the systems, behind your doctors, your public health officials, your legislators don't care about you, are bringing the war to our devices and are bringing the war to our children. What are some of the top things you believe must rise to? Wow, talk about a bomb drop question. Let's unpack it slow because... So Dr. Stanton is talking about what we've experienced in North America, which is, you know, USA and Canada. But what happened in 2020 with the lockdowns and the COVID theater and the outsourcing of our own agency autonomy happened globally. And I'm sure you felt it as well, Mar wherever you were. And the way that I think we can start this conversation, it's quite nuanced would be, what are the actual facts that don't have anything to do with a narrative of interest? What do I mean by that? The facts are that we are all feeling this interstitial tension. And I know we feel it all the time, whether it's government or policy or politics or finance or control or permitting at how many things we have to go through just to drive a car, just to own a home, just to be a human being in this world. And quite frankly, what's really hard to swallow is that the United States of America, as well as all countries, are actually corporations. Now, this is something you can easily search for. It is not the common narrative. So I'm gonna present things that I know, Stanton, you're on board with, but it's going to be very uncomfortable to hear. All of us are being monetized at all times. We're being monetized at all times, specifically through 2 vehicles, anxiety and depression. And so really Stanton, the bulk of your question is where do we go from here and what do we get to focus on from here? We first get to identify that these anxiety and depression, energy and motions, these energies we feel, they're actually our protectors. And we talked about this last week where, you know, Mar, I think you even asked me, should we rename the title? Because is anxiety and depression really self-love or is it something else? And it's a paradox because anxiety is a focus on the future. It's a fear of the future. Depression is a rumination or a saturation of the past, shame, blame, what I could have done differently, did I fuck it up, blah, blah, blah. And we're never gonna get out of these energies completely because it's what fuels human experience. In a way, it's the gas that fuels the car that is us. And so I think what we really get to do is take a deep breath. And again, I love this analogy of floating above our timeline. Look at how you felt in 2020, in 2021, and even in 2022. And even now you still see these people wearing double masks in their cars, driving on the freeway alone. We have been indoctrinated by a narrative that is not for our good. I'm not here to be fearful. I'm not here to paint this morbid picture, but that was a wake-up call for all of us. It was a massive wake-up call for us to take stock of exactly what is most important to us. And unfortunately, I think we felt the same. It's like people chose to cower... [34:10] ADHD Myths Let's go to our final question. Again, this is not medical advice. This is from Dana, and Dana is asking a very beautiful question about ADHD in children. How come ADD or ADHD drugs are still being used to make a child or an adult and make may not be the right word but to perform or conform to society so the child can sit down at a desk why not have more outside time. I do find it interesting that those drugs are still being used and I feel, to be wrong, that those drugs lead to other later on in life. So why or how come are they still being used and promoted? Oh I've seen parents brag about their children being on these medications like hey don't you want your kid to you know go with it too? And it's like haven't we learned things don't work. You see a bunch of adult dysfunction in the world. I feel like intuitively we all know the answer to this. Right? Like I'll throw it at you Mar. Intuitively, don't you already know the answer to her question? Intuitively, possibly. I don't know if it's right or not, but it might be. What do you think it is? I feel like doctors usually just follow certain rules that they learned at school, that the system taught them. They don't really know that they're not truly helping. They believe they're helping and maybe they do help some people, but they're not really addressing the root cause. And I think that's the main issue with the healthcare system. Yeah. Well put. And that's a mirror of, I think what everyone feels without even having to use their intellect. We all feel that on a somatic level that obviously the branches are connected to roots. So you don't chop off the branches when you want to heal the tree. You look at what's poisoning the roots. A great episode for this, a really good episode, Dana., is with Leland Stillman, MD. He's a medical doctor. He talks about the secrets of stress disease connection, the truth about psychoneuroimmunology, which we'll talk about, and how to be well for life. He touched on the comparison and the mechanism of breathing improper breathing and ADHD The traditional Western Weston a price found this in the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration when he toured across the world, he found that when tribes and when people would deviate from their natural nature-based diet, that they actually would have more issues with their teeth being crowded and their facial structure being crowded. And most importantly, this is a big 1, their breathing apparatus through their sinuses would actually be shrunken down when they would deviate from their nature-based nutrition source. And a lot of times, by the way, again, I'm gonna say this, right? My opinions are my opinions, and they're just based on my research. I'm not here to tell y'all what to believe and none of this is medical advice, but I will say that if we have a medical doctor on our podcast who's been schooled in the arts of medicine sharing this information, y'all might wanna take a look. He doesn't have a vested interest in monetizing your pain. He has a vested interest in alleviating our suffering. And so the first place to look when it comes to ADHD is what is the environment of the child in? Are the mother and father screaming at each other? Did the mother have trauma while the baby was in utero? Are there certain epigenetic predispositions that the child has a greater proclivity to exhibit? In other words, if the mother had trauma, if the mother had a cleft palate, if the mother had a birth that was difficult, if she hasn't healed her own birth trauma, is there some kind of intergenerational trauma that is being passed on child first and foremost? Because essentially attention deficit disorder or hyperactivity disorder is when one doesn't feel safe in their body. That's the root of all this, right? And so yes, you can chop off the tree limbs, and give them medication that gives an intermediate reprieve, but it's not the long-term solution. The long-term solution is to go to the roots and figure out what's in the soil, and what's in the water. Because it's going to be 1 of the 5 that we always talk about, right? Is there financial stress in the home? Does that go down to the child? I mean, I can relate to this, Mar. I was born on welfare, y'all. So like my dad wasn't at home. My mom was super stressed out about money all the time. It took me until my late 30s to get clear that money wasn't trying to kill me. That's real. So is there spiritual stress in the home? Is there a complete severing of a connection to God and a higher power? Are you living in a home of atheists who believe there's no meaning to it all, and that we're all just gonna die, and there's no point to us even loving and living. Is there mental stress in the home? Is there being verbal threats passed between mother and father? How is the child behaving that's a mirror of the parents behaving? Is there emotional stress in the home? Does the child even understand that he can breathe or she can breathe or that emotions are a good thing?... "What piece of advice would you give a brand-new mom who's struggling to feel like herself after giving birth?" Okay, first and foremost, I was raised by a single mom and a single mom on welfare, by the way. So if y'all don't know what welfare is in the United States, it's like Velveeta cheese and processed cereal and the food you could ever eat. Not to mention my dad was not at home. So, Christina, my heart goes out to you whether you have a husband or a man in the house or not. If you don't, then this question holds even more weight. Let's start with if you do have at home, a husband at home, a partner at home. So the best way for you to get back in your body is just to give yourself there's going to be 9 months or more, because you carry a child for 9 months typically, 9 months or more that you are going to go through an out-of-body and reintegration in-body experience. And I can speak from personal experience on this, Mar. Have you ever had a friend or a family member who's delivered a child? Yeah, a few. Did you notice their behavior was different or they just act differently once they had the child? It's just a lot of stress and lack of sleep. So I'm not surprised that people just, it brings the worst out of them because just don't have enough nourishment and enough sleep and enough, like anything that a person needs to feel well. Yeah, no doubt. The struggle is real y'all for single moms or moms with husbands. So let's start on model number 1 with a husband or a father. The best thing you can possibly do is from a grounded place. And I learned this from an episode we did with Margo Running. And Margo was telling me that when she broke up with the father of her children, she did all the work to come from the most loving grounded space and the way that she would speak about the children speak about the father. Now, going back to the first model, if the father is in the home, you can do the same thing. I've experienced just on a personal level, a lot of friction with Carrie Michelle, with my partner, with the mother of my children, because she was learning this new version of herself as a mom. I was learning this new version of myself as a father, especially when my son Nova was born in 2021. Oh my gosh. The phrase that comes to mind is the phoenix rising from the ashes. Because when you go through a birth process, Christina, you are literally being decimated. You're going through a birth and a death at the same time. And I think this is easy for men to forget for sure. I think women understand this on a more visceral level because to be, and I know this is a reductionized statement, women tend to be more in tune with their unconscious than men. I think it's just how they're wired for nurture... [11:50] Reparenting Your Adult Self All right, let's get to the next question, Mar. Who is next? Next, we have Maureen, and she also sent us an audio about reparenting her adult self. So it's going to be a good one. "Hi Josh, I am wanting to break through limitations and expand the field of possibilities for myself. I've been looking into inner child work, shadow work, and reparenting stuff recently. And I've made a list of child self-attributes and adult self-attributes for reparenting purposes. For the most part, I could see where I could adult my inner child parts but when I came down to the words the bottom felt pretty stuck. I reached a point where I haven't successfully adulted yet I realized where I am still juvenile and inexperienced in my development And that area is around wishing someone else would just take charge so I can in the world. I still want some sort of parentified figure, like a boss or even my husband, to set parameters and reassure me that I'm safe. And at that moment when I was trying to ask myself how I would parent self part of me who needed that kind of caretaker to feel safe in the world, I felt really at a loss. I don't know how to take charge and step into that role of an adult who enjoys and feels confident being in charge and at ease in the world in that position. So my child self doesn't have to live in fear. I had a bit of fear and anxiety around the idea of not knowing how to take charge. So my question to you is, how do I develop that adult self with the sense of confidence in taking charge of my own life and feeling safe to do so in the world. Thanks." Wow, what a beautiful question. I'm just like smiling right now. What a beautiful question. Gosh, I mean, can you relate to this Mar? Completely. I've been there myself and I might still be there sometimes these days. So I totally understand. Yeah, Maureen. It's so good. I'm curious to Mar before I go into the layers of this because layers here, Maureen. So we're only going to do 3. Well, we get to do 3 big, beautiful questions today on the AMA. And I really wanted to spend a good portion of time on this because this is not a question that we just want to breeze through. There are some really beautiful deep layers here. I'm curious When you heard Maureen's voice and when you felt her energy, what arose for you? What about your own life experience, Mar, could you relate to in her share? I would say it's just not allowing yourself or not giving yourself the permission to access all these spaces where you can feel safe, where you can express yourself and allow others to hear you and see you. Because what I noticed recently, I've always wanted to be seen and heard, but I also realized I was so scared to be seen and heard. So there's this internal blockage that's stopping you from what you actually want. And it's, it's so confusing, can be so confusing for a person to get through all of that. So that's something that came up for me. Would you say in those moments, and I'm not here to psychoanalyze you, I just think this is such good material for what she asked, for what Maureen asked. Would you say that there's one side of you that knows exactly what you want. And there's another side of you, maybe unconscious or an aspect of yourself unconsciously that wants something else. 100%. How would you describe that? I think there are some social constructs that I put on myself and that I need to get out of the way that are limiting me and some things that I also bring from my childhood that I need to unlearn in order to really be myself. That's what it is. Yes, All right. That's a great starting point. You said really be myself and that's it, isn't it? We all are on this journey and it's become very clear to me this year, 2024 y'all, I don't know if you feel it, like we're only a few months into the year. There has been more death, rebirth, physical death, spiritual death, emotional death... [30:05] Anxiety + Depression = Self-Love? Let's get on to the next question. What's the next one, Mar? All right, the next question we have is from Diane. "Hey Josh! For someone that struggles with both anxiety and depression where do I even fucking begin to address the way that I feel in my body when they hit me SO hard? There are times when I don't even know what to do and all I can do is just lay down on the floor and cry. What are your thoughts on this?" I took a deep breath because I have been there. And I'm probably there like a few times a quarter, really, where I'm just like, I'm feeling so much right now. What do I do with this? Can you relate more? I've been there not many times, but I have All right good for you. I don't think it has to be our path that we always do this stuff, right? But depending on the level of trauma that we've experienced Here's what I believe. I was meditating on this before we recorded today and I wrote this that I want to read to you. So, the manifestation of anxiety and is the result of a broken family unit and tribe that equals validation of the unconscious evidence that we are loved, that we aren't worthy, and that we won't be accepted by others. So really what this is a call for is this is a call for your protection and your own self-love. Now at first audible, you might be like, well, how do I make sense of that? Like, what are you talking about? I'm on the floor like screaming or crying or feeling like shit. Okay, well, what I'm saying is from the brokenness and from the bottom of everything that you're feeling, what is it? What's there? All that's there is energy. All that's there is energy in motion. That's why it's called emotion. And energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be moved. It can only be transmuted. So if that's the truth, and if a part of you believes that's the truth, Diane, and I know you do because you wouldn't be here with us if you didn't know that that was already true in some way, then really this process for you can be started by just tracing back to the trauma. You don't have to know why it happened. This is where, Mar, a lot of people loop. Why did it happen? What's the meaning of why it happened? Oh my god, and we can just get so down the fucking rabbit hole of like what's the existential meaning of this? Something I learned in NLP training with Scott Jackson. It's a powerful episode by the way We're gonna link that in notes Diane Trace back the trauma like what is your emotional inventory process right now? We already listed out the steps of the EI2 process, the beginning steps. What are the tools of inventory and of somatic that you've already implemented? I'm guessing if you find yourself in this place a lot, then potentially those tools aren't in place. So let's list out some really practical things. We'll start at the bottom of the staircase, we'll go to the middle, and then we'll end up on the second floor, okay? And Mar, if you're feeling anything, just interrupt me because I know this is something that you and I have jammed on before. This manifestation of anxiety and depression is the result of a break in the bond. A beautiful, beautiful resource for this is our second episode that we did with Mark Wolynn. He talks about the break in the bond and break in the bond is really specific to our healing to identify not why it happened, but just that it happened. A break in the bond is a split from the mother. All wounds, by the way, originate from the mother, either in utero or epigenetically or in the first 7 years of life or in young adulthood. Everything, everything, everything, if you look at science or spirituality, it all starts with the mother. Now the father wound also takes place, but we are birthed from our mother. So of course the origin of all trauma and place for all healing starts with the mother. And so the father wound is part of this, but I'm really going to focus on the mother here. There is some part of a break in the bond with our mother figure or feminine energy that brought us into the world deserves attention... Let's start with the masculinity that's in deprivation. This is from Anna. Let's listen to the question right now. "Do you think masculinity is in deprivation in our society of feminism?" Well, the short answer is yes. And I'll tell you why, but before I begin, Mar, you know, you and I were chatting about this before we jumped on, and there's a dark and a light to feminism. Now, you as a woman, right, The majority of our audience is women and also men who are interested in accessing the feminine inside of themselves. That's why we have the upside-down triangle in our company logo so that I can master that myself. From a feminine perspective, what do you think the light and the dark of feminism are in your, in your mental view? So I'm still in the process of figuring out what's the good part and what's the kind of negative feminism. I've never been involved in the feminist movement at all because my opinion is every moment that has gone is not serving its purpose anymore. And that has happened with every big movement, basically. So I do see it in a way that it has brought us some freedom in a sense we're not dependent only on men anymore, which in a sense is good, but in the same sense, we have become the masculine in the world as well, because we get to work every day and we get to earn our own money and take care of children and do everything on our own. And I don't think that's a good thing. We just do way too much. Right. It's beautiful. Look, so it's a great question, Anna, and I'll start by, We'll go into 3 different chunks here. I think any movement when it begins, it does come from a good place, right? And so women's suffrage has been happening for a long time. You know, Eckhart Tolle talked about the pain body of women. And just like a lake, if you were to throw a rock, which could essentially represent the dark side of the patriarchy, which is a real thing. Patriarchy and feminism both have a dark and a light. That rock of the dark side of patriarchy was thrown into the lake. And in some ways, in many ways, the ripple is still being felt by the feminine, by women in the world. So I'm not here to negate the suffrage of women or the pain that women feel. I am here to just bring a different perspective. So with that vantage point, when it started, feminism I believe was about getting women to a place where they feel empowered, where they feel free. Unfortunately, like most movements here in the matrix, that movement was captured early 1900s by the IRS and by top wealthy families in America. And it was a way to get women out of the house and into the workforce for this reason, to double the taxes that were actually collected. And also it sacrifices the family... [14:50] How to Build a Mental Grit What is our next question? We have one from Jackie. She's asking about your advice on building mental grit during these crazy times. "What is a way you can build resilience and grit in these crazy trying times with social media, 24-hour news cycle, etc? How can you build the skills needed to survive your mind during these crazy times? I appreciate your advice and your answer. Thank you." Isn't Jackie asking the quintessential question of our times? In this day and age where we're also quote, hyper-connected on social media, and we have the most perceived that we ever had, I think really what we're talking about here is a pseudo connection where our energy and really our focus is being harvested. I don't know about you, Mar, but I'm very aware of how much I'm on my phone. Do you have a great relationship with your phone or what is that like for you? I wouldn't call it a great relationship. I'm trying to get away from it as much as I can. And every time I'm in a real social situation interaction, I try to never use my phone. It's just, to me, it feels so rude when I'm face-to-face with somebody and they're just on their phone. I can't stand it and that's why I'm not doing that. But yeah, I'm definitely trying to bring the screen time down as much as I can. That's my goal. Yeah, it's well said. Y'all can go on your iPhone, I believe on your Android too. And you can look at your hours. It actually shows you on your phone how many times you pick it up and how much time you're spending on your phone. So if you think you don't have time, I challenge everyone who's here with us to pick up your phone and how much time you're spending on your phone. I remember we had a guest on the show. It was Dr. Kyra Bobinet and she was a neuroscientist. She told me something very, very powerful. She said, look, no matter if you have children or not, even as adults, we're all being trained. We're all being trained on a neurological level to seek comfort and to seek what's called reward circuitry in our limbic system from the phone itself. Another great resource for this is the episode we did with Nir Eyal, where he talked about the variable reward of cell phones. I think, Jackie, what your question really points to is the phone, because the phone and computers and social media, these are the devices and these are the things that are actually down our capacity to have mental grit. Look at our ancestors, right? They saw, and I'm talking like even our grandparents, Mar, they saw maybe 150 to 200 things that were high decision-making things that they needed to make decisions in life. We see 10,000 things or more. So it's like 20 to 100 X times of input that's coming at us all day long. We are human. We are half beast and half spirit. And so I think it's no surprise that all of us are struggling in some way with mental grit. Now, when you say crazy times, a lot of these crazy times are propagated by what we see on social. We've all heard the term doom scrolling, right? It's actually why Mar and myself and our entire team, we design content that can actually go out there and hook people where they are. And that is essentially maybe in the bathroom, going to the bathroom, doom scrolling, or on the trolley or whatever, like just going through your phone, trying to get some kind of a mental reward from just the normalcy of where you are. And I think what we've lost is the ability to just be present in a moment... [24:30] Find The Courage to Grow Let's get to the next question. It's from Joanna. So Joanna is calling out the new age bullshit and she wants to know the difference between forcing versus cultivating courage to accept life's purpose. It's so good. Oh my gosh, how many people can relate to this? Let's hear Joanna. "Hey Josh, my name is Joanna. And my question for you is, I've heard you in the past talk about how in the new age, people say things like, if it doesn't feel good, then don't do it. And I've heard you call BS on that. And I would love if you could elaborate more about that, specifically, like with differentiating between, like, if you're forcing something, and it's, you know, like, to just switch lanes versus like, something is meant for you. But it might just be hard, you know, like how do you differentiate clarity around the path? Because obviously it's going to be hard either way. So it might not feel good either way. I hope that makes sense." It makes perfect sense. So the analogy would be when to grit and when to quit and how to have the emotional mental faculty in order to know when you should be forcing something, which I believe now is never that I'll get into, versus cultivating the courage to accept your life purpose. And this is multi-layered. So let's spend some time on this one because this is a very contextual question. So in the new age, we have these phrases, Mar, like good vibes only. I've even seen T-shirts and sweatshirts. Have you seen these? Good vibes only, or like social memes? Love and light. What does that bring up for you when you see that? Well, I've been through a lot, I know it's not true. It's just one part of it. It's like we live in a dual world and so always the shadow part and we cannot ignore it. If we only focus on the light and the love and the good vibes only, we're missing out on a lot. No doubt. Yeah, and you know what we're missing out on is we're missing out on the human experience of just having a process in general. I'll never, ever, ever forget this. I was at Paleo FX back in the day when Paleo was happening here in Austin, and I was doing a live podcast with Christine Hassler. And she said, never allow yourself to rob someone else of their process. And why that's so important is because when we focus on hyper positivity, or when we focus on good vibes only, or just love and light, we're missing out on a fucking myriad of the human experience that is grief, pain, anger, resentment, betrayal, jealousy. Human emotions are not necessarily good or bad, right? They're just emotions. And so energy in motion is really just a clue as to where the energy is asking to be or where the energy is asking to be channeled. So when I'm feeling angry or upset, that's actually a good thing. It's a good thing because my boundary has been broken in some way, or I'm not being respected in some way, either by myself or my partner or a friend or a colleague.
