028. Deep Nutrition: Unlocking Your Genome, Dangers of Sugar (Part 2 of 3)
âA half teaspoon of sugar puts white blood cells to sleep for four hours.âIn this podcast, I take a deep dive on SUGAR and why it wreaks havoc on your health more than you know. I'm sure most of you are thinking, "yeah I already know sugar is a problem big deal." But let me ask you, are your joints stiff and creaky? Do you suffer from heart palpitations, hormonal disruption, high cholesterol, migraines or cluster headaches? These could all be caused from too much sugar in your diet. In this podcast, you're going to hear why sugar is so devastating for your health, and then some amazing testimonials from others who cut out their sugar intake and rid themselves from once thought "uncurable" conditions.Quick Facts About Sugar- Sugar is sticky and heats why high blood and tissue levels can have toxic effects- The body knows sugar is toxic and releases hormones to regulate it- Eventually, too much sugar disrupts hormonal function- Too much sugar also disrupts basic cellular functions in ways that accelerate the aging process- Because grocery stores are full of foods that raise blood sugar, most people eat more sugar than they realize

027. Egoscue: Eliminate Pain with Postural Therapy - Angi Campos
On the show this week, I met up with Angi Campos of Egoscue Method San Francisco. I had read about Egoscue Method almost 10 years prior in the book Pain Free by Pete Egoscue. It was recommended by a friend to help treat my low back pain. I found the book fascinating, but the exercises seemed too simple and required 45 minutes of my time, and I just felt like I couldnât commit to that amount of time. Angi helped dispel all those myths and showed me how to correctly implement the Egoscue Method into my busy life. This episode is phenomenal, because we also film an almost 40 minute session of me going thru a typical Egoscue analysis and first time session. Angi used a camera and special computer program to help analyze my posture from four different views. From there, the computer correctly can help diagnose what exercises are needed to help rebalance my body. The photos were to say the least, eye opening. I couldnât believe the mechanical faults I was displaying. If you watch my session, youâll see that I ask Angi, âBased on my photos where do you think I experience pain.â She was able to say, âYou probably experience right knee pain.â She was 100% right. I couldnât believe it.Then she walked analyzed my gait and how I walk. By making one simple adjustment, my gait improved 75% better, I was walking lighter (not so heavy like a thud thud sound every time I step). She then had me touch my toes, which I couldnât do without falling over. After a two minute isometric hold, I was touching my toes again. It was incredible! The idea behind Egoscue is restoring the posture and getting to the root cause of your problems to help extinguish pain that you might feel in your low back, hip, or knees (as they ware the most common). This is a phenomenal episode, and if you listen to this episode please contact your local practitioner or Angi at Egoscue San Francisco, because Angi is doing Zoom video conference postural analyses where she can actually use the same computer software to diagnose your structural issues remotely! How cool is that? Your first postural analysis session is free if you just mention JOEL and where you heard the episode. I canât thank Angi enough for offering this service to our listeners, itâs people like her that make us realize we are all connected in a much bigger way, and Iâm grateful for people like her that are out serving us every day.Timeline12:42 - How Angi got started with Egoscue17:00 - How Egoscue is different20:10 - Why Egoscue works22:18 - Whatâs a typical session like27:02 - What are E-cises and how these exercises turn on our muscles?30:30 - Why just doing exercises to âturn onâ the muscle might not work32:40 - Herniated discs & why they are not a big deal34:20 - How Egoscue practitioners can continue to support clients via ZOOM37:00 - Most common injury trends Angi is seeing in the clinic37:52 - Egoscue and professional athletes 41:20 - How often should patients come in and retest?45:20 - How do you make time for Egoscue? 026. The "Silver Bullet" For COVID-19 - Dr Richard Bartlett
Todayâs guest is Dr Richard Bartlett, a traditionally trained Western MD out of West Texas. Dr Bartlett has held many positions as a doctor and has worked in multiple facilities, from smaller clinics to the emergency room to overseas in war zones doing missionary work. He might have not seen it all, but heâs been exposed to a lot over his 28 years as a practicing physician. Dr Bartlett, a religious man, told me he believed his discovery of finding a viable treatment for COVID-19 was a miracle, and it came to him after a lot of prayer. Dr Bartlett began treating several of his patients affected by COVID-19 with a steroid known for treating asthma and respiratory problems known as Budesonide. Budesonide is so safe he said, that they even give it to preemie babies. Dr Bartlett has been giving it to even his worst patients, those that have smoked their entire lives and test positive for COVID-19. One patient had a fever lasting multiple days and was having trouble walking. After inhaling neublized Budesonide, she was back teaching piano lessons the next day. Dr Bartlett said its ironic, because Budesonide isnât if the best steroid when it comes to treating asthma, based on all the feedback heâs gotten back from patients. However, Budesonide seems to really be working for COVID patients. Dr Bartlett calls it the fire extinguisher for putting out the base of the fire. With viruses, youâre breathing a 1000 viruses a minute out of your mouth just with normal breathing.Where normal patients die from COVID due to a âcytokine storm,â - A cytokine storm is an overreaction of the body's immune system. In some people with COVID-19, the immune system releases immune messengers, called cytokines, into the bloodstream out of proportion to the threat or long after the virus is no longer a threat. When this happens, the immune system attacks the body's own tissues, potentially causing significant harm. A cytokine storm triggers an exaggerated inflammatory response that may damage the liver, blood vessels, kidneys, and lungs, and increase formation of blood clots throughout the body. Ultimately, the cytokine storm may cause more harm than the coronavirus itself. Budesonide seems to be able to dampen or put out the cytokine storm. before it ever gets out of control and destroys the body.Dr Bartlett and I also discuss viruses and basic immunology, the effectiveness of masks, whether he believes this virus is man made, and much, much more.Timeline7:40: How Dr Bartlett discovered the âsilver bulletâ for COVID-199:20: What is Budesonide?11:39: Examples of patients treated by Dr Bartlett13:18: How viruses work and why this one is different21:30 - Why other doctors arenât doing this?25:43 - How Budesonide works27:45 - What is a cytokine storm?34:27 - Why ventilators are absolutely worthless40:15 - Could you use prophalatically?44:50 - How Budesonide stops the cytokine storm53:20 - Why a vaccine is highly unlikely1:00:15 - Should we be wearing masks?1:06:45 - Lightning Round Questions

025. The Psychic Medium: Channeling Spirts & Guides - Lizzy Leslie
This weekâs guest is a bit of detour for me in terms of health and fitness type of interviews. A friend of mine and doctor recommended I check out Lizzy Leslie who is a psychic medium. Even he said, âThis kind of stuff is not really my thing, but sheâs legit.â Not in my wildest dreams would I think of interviewing a psychic, because even Iâm not sure I really believe in these âsecretâ powers. However, Iâm open to new ideas, and Iâm open to possibility. Iâve learned over the years, thereâs a lot we donât know about the world, and thereâs a lot we canât explain from science for why something works, even though it works. Thereâs miracles all around us, and faith alone is a great example of things, ideas, or plans manifesting for us in the future all through faith. Lizzy is from Santa Rosa, California and was a lot of fun. Sheâs not your typical psychic either. Sometimes she uses Cardi B or 2pac to get her into a higher vibration that allows her to connect with the innate. Then again, it depends what you think your typical psychic should look or behave like. What I mean, is she doesnât have a crystal ball or read your palms, but she taps into the innate with what she calls âGuides,â or spirits that help her. These âGuidesâ help direct her readings and tell the message to the client. This was a really fun episode and at the end of the episode she even did a reading for me, so stay tuned to the end to hear what Lizzy had to say about me, and to experience a real psychic reading.

024. Ozone: The $5 Remedy For Viruses & Antioxidant Myths - Dr Robert Rowen
This weekâs guest needs no introduction and is none other than Dr Robert Rowen. Dr Rowen just turned 70 years old (and he looked amazing, especially his skin) and has been practicing alternative medicine for over 40 years. When I walked into Dr Rowenâs office, he was treating his blood with ozone, also known as O3. Ozone is a molecule composed of 3 atoms of oxygen (O3). It can significantly improve biochemical pathways and metabolism in the body. Our immune cells naturally produce ozone in our bodies. Ozone is known to break up bacterial cells, disrupt virus reproduction, and destroy toxins. Ozone increases oxygenation and improves blood flow throughout the entire body. The strongest method is usually to give ozone blood treatments. The most effective treatment Dr Rowen has found for pain is injecting ozone into joints/painful areas. I have been following Dr Rowen for years, but what made me particularly interested in Dr Rowenâs work was his study of the Ebola virus. Dr Rowen went to Sierre Leone during the Ebola pandemic and successfully treated five people with Ebola. Due to politics, which youâll learn about in the podcast, Dr Rowen was forced to stop treating people. What does the Ebola virus have to do with today you might ask? Well, the Ebola virus shares similar properties to that of the Coronavirus, which Dr Rowen outlines in our podcast. Based on these properties, thereâs a great chance that ozone could be used to treat Coronavirus as well. In this episode we also talk about free radicals, bacteria, viruses, and how they might not be so bad after all. We also talk about the vaccineâs efficacy and their checkered history. We talk about how viruses actually work and ways you can maintain a healthy lifestyle especially during these crazy times. 023. Fasting For Muscle Growth, TRT, Anabolic Method For Carbs (Part 2 of 2) - Dr John Jaquish
This weekâs episode is part two of last weekâs episode with Dr John Jaquish. If you missed that episode, you really want to tune in so that this episode has some context. Nonetheless, in this episode Dr Jaquish discusses some of the fallacies with Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and why so many people think he is âcheatingâ or that his muscle growth is artificial because he uses TRT. He explains why this is completely false. He talks about genetics and how it relates to muscle growth, some of his favorite biohacks, his diet and routines, the only time he actually eats carbohydrates, and he answers all of the X3 Facebook Userâs Group questions. 022. Weightlifting & Cardio Is A Waste of Time, Grow 3x W/out Weights (Part 1) - Dr John Jaquish
Almost three years ago, I met Dr John Jaquish, the inventor of Osteostrong and the X3 Bar, at Dave Aspreyâs HeadStrong book launch in San Francisco. At the time he was up to exciting experiments and biohacking that other people werenât talking about. Shortly after, Dr Jaquish came out with a product named the X3 Bar. It was a simple enough looking system with a platform, some resistance bands, and a bar to attach the resistance bands. I saw people using the system, including Dr Jaquish, and thought, âBig deal, why is it so expensive for some bands and a platform?â However, two things happened to me that changed my mind about the X3 Bar. (1) I had my first child, and quickly realized I had absolutely no time to travel to a gym, let alone even 30 minutes to workout. Interestingly enough, X3 Bar claimed you could get a workout in 10 minutes. (2) I read the Cornell Study, which outlined how athletes undertaking variable resistance training became three times stronger than those doing just traditional free weights. I bought the system and since that day I havenât turned back. With the X3 Bar, I am never sore, I have maintained my muscle mass since the days when I was lifting free weights, and best of all, I am injury free. As you can imagine, most people canât conceive that lifting with the X3 Bar could get you these results in 10-15 minutes of working out. Naturally, I get a lot of questions about the X3 Bar, and the science behind it. I thought it would great to have none other than Dr Jaquish on himself to explain the irrefutable science, and why we have been lied to about lifting weights for so long. Dr Jaquish is known for what some might call flippantly saying âweightlifting and cardio is a waste of time,â but he backs up his beliefs with science.Since I last saw Dr Jaquish three years ago, he has put on 60 lbs of muscle! Again, people canât rationalize how heâs been able to accomplish this feat without steroids or some sort of muscle enhancer. Dr Jaquish has, however, been criticized for using testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), and many attribute his gains purely to that. However, on this episode, Dr Jaquish addresses those criticisms and explains why TRT has had nothing to do with his growth. Instead, Dr Jaquish has altered and refined his diet since he first started with X3 three years ago, which is something we get into heavily this episode. Heâs also launched a new product called Fortagen, which is a high quality essential amino acid blend that he credits for helping pack on that muscle mass.We spoke for three hours and covered so much that I had to break the episode into two parts. In part one, we talk a lot about the science of X3, his new book, why whey protein is bullshit, how to increase muscle through fasting, and much much more. 021. Rebels Apothecary: The Healing Magic of Cannabis, CBD, & Medicinal Mushrooms - Jenny Sansouci
Jenny Sansouci is the author and writer of Rebels Apothecary: A Practical Guide To The Healing Magic Of Cannabis, CBD, and Mushrooms. I first discovered Jenny years ago, as sheâs a health coach and thought leader in the wellness community, and the host of the extremely popular blog Healthy Crush.Jennyâs new book was not written because she has a fascination with cannabis and medicinal mushrooms. The book wrote itself when Jenny discovered her father was diagnosed in 2017 with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. For those of you that donât know, that is essentially a death sentence. However, being a fearless health coach with years and years of knowledge, Jenny went deep, and began devouring everything she could about cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer. Over and over again, Jenny kept stumbling across cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms in her research. Jenny made suggestions to her father and he was totally onboard. One of the interesting things in our conversation, was I learned Jenny took an âadditiveâ approach to her fatherâs cancer, versus subtracting or taking things out of his diet. In congruence with chemotherapy, Jennyâs father added cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms to help augment his recovery. Her father not only improved in terms of his cancer lessening (as shown on doctorâs visits and scans), but also his mood and appetite drastically improved, as well as eliminating his nausea. This type of approach with our clients or people we care for is a valuable lesson. Many times we want to put people on a âketo dietâ and introduce fasting and all types of restrictions, which as we know can be very difficult on a person on top of all the stress they are experiencing. So this additive approach can be very effective, and was a huge lightbulb moment for me as a coach. This is an amazing episode; Jenny talks about the different strains of CBD and their effects, how to pick a CBD and why, how to cook with CBD/cannabis, how to hack menstrual cramps, her favorite brands, the most powerful medicinal mushrooms for cancer, and much more. 020. Deep Nutrition: Unlocking Your Genome, Good Fats Vs Bad Fat (Part 1 of 3)
This is the first of a three part episode, where I am going to dissect some key nutrition concepts. After reading the book, Deep Nutrition, several years ago, I had learned so much about how our nutrition effects our genes, our symmetry, and much more. Even if you didnât read the book, there were a few main take-aways, that if you only did these things, you could lead a much healthier, vibrant, and disease-free life. Further, I see so many people making a huge mistakes when it comes to the types of oils they should be using and it makes me cringe. The problem is, itâs not your fault. The media along with several governmental groups such as the American Heart Association (AMA) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) have led people astray since the 1960âs. With so much time overlapped, people just continue to do what generations before them have done, or they just donât know any better because the new, real science is not being promoted. These are easy fixes, but if not addressed, 30 years will pass and youâll be on six different medications for your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sexual performance. In this episode I talk about heart disease, cholesterol, LDL vs HDL, good fats vs bad fats, and the history of this science. Itâs ironic as at the time of creating this episode, other doctors and wellness warriors are trying to tell the other side of the coronavirus pandemic, and they are being silenced and censored by the mainstream media, as well as social media outlets. In the 1960âs, the same type of censorship was orchestrated, and Americans were told to change thier diet, eat certain foods, and heart disease which was at all time lows skyrocketed. And so did the pocketbooks of Big Pharma. Enjoy the episode! If you're looking to go deep in your life, and you're interested in improving your health or reaching higher levels in your life, please contact me for one on one coaching at info@joelevancoaching.com

019. Fifty Is The New Twenty (Aging Backwards) - Steve Vierra
In this weekâs episode, I sit down with the supple leopard, Steve Vierra. I first met Steve almost 10 years ago, where we both worked at the Oakland Police Dept. Steve is exactly 50.7 years old, but he looks and moves like a 25 year old. Steve is a huge health nut, a former bodybuilder, movement specialist, and health expert, and has so much wisdom to offer, I figured it was time to have him on the show.As a police officer, Steve is expected to be a âtactical athlete,â but as we all know, many police officers fall victims to early retirements, due to stress, herniated discs, heart attacks, cancer, etc. One of the things that I think has made Steve age so gracefully and avoid all these common pitfalls seen by most officers is his mindset. Police work is such a negative profession, that only sees the worst in people, and is completely thankless. Itâs easy to become jaded and hardened. Not Steve. He always finds the good in something and looks for the opportunity where others arenât.Steve also makes his body his top priority. Steve expresses this thru movement and has taken many courses and many certifications to learn more about the way the body is supposed to move. After a short career in bodybuilding, and tearing his quad, and seeing numerous doctors, Steve talks about this journey thru health and how he never was satisfied with one personâs opinion because âhe knew his bodyâ better than any doctor. Steve talks a lot about how awareness is the key to getting over most injuries, but most people lack that completely. Steve also shares his supplements and daily routines, especially important for first responders that get little to no sleep and work shift work. Heâs an avid biohacker, and regularly intermittent fasts, throws and carries kegs for muscle building, does cold plunges and infrared sauna, and much more. If youâre looking to optimize your health, thereâs a lot you can look from Steveâs philosophy and approach.
