Today’s learning objectives:I hope this interview can set a different view on Aglianico and Taurasi. I’m always surprised how ‘unknown’ these wines are beside the well known producers like Mastroberardino, Feudo di San Gregorio or Terredora. Co-Moderator - Wim SasWim Sas, the founder of Wijnkennis in Lille, Belgium, is a renowned wine expert with over 30 years of experience. He graduated in law and worked as a consultant for the public administration. His parents were farmers and his mother Margherita, in particular, always made wine at home, while his father was forced to emigrate to the United States. Giovanni always used to help his mother in the production of ‘Aglianico’ and ‘Coda di Volpe’ wines, which was sold in demijohns. In 2012, Giovanni quit his job and built a new bio-architectural winery next to the house where he was born. He continued to cultivate the family vineyards, about 5 hectares - 4 hectares of Aglianico and 1 hectare of Coda di Volpe. He bottled for the first time in 2016: now, he produces about 20 thousands bottles each year. His goal is to make wines that tell the story of his family and his land: a gentle and elegant wine that respects the vintages and roots, the terroir without neglecting good drinkability.
