Ep. 2133 Sicilia DOC with Antonio Rallo | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to Episode 2133 of On The Road Edition. Today Stevie Kim is in Sicily to talk about Sicilia DOC with Antonio Rallo, president of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia.More about today’s guest: The controlled designation of origin for Sicilian wines was established on 22nd November 2011 by a decree issued by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. On 12th June 2012, the same wine growers, winemakers and bottling companies that supported recognition of the DOC, established the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Doc Sicilia with the aim of promoting the production of Sicilian wine and its area of production.
The consortium boasts about 3,000 wine growers amongst its members and, thanks to this high level of representation, it has been attributed erga omnes status by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. The consortium’s role therefore lies in the protection, promotion, development, provision of consumer information and general supervision of all matters related to Sicilia DOC wines. Ep. 2130 Larissa Lawrence interviews Sebastian Van de Sype | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner

Welcome to Episode 2130 of the Italian Wine Podcast with Stevie Kim’s Ambassadors’ Corner on Clubhouse. In this episode Larissa Lawrence interviews Sebastian Van de Sype, of the Sebastian Van de Sype winery in Modena.Today’s learning objectives: What’s the cultural orientation of Lambrusco? What is distinct and unique about Lambrusco, relative to other Italian wines? How might I enjoy it personally and convey that professionally? Co-Moderator - Larissa Lawrence Larissa Lawrence is the co-founder of Vinos Enteros, a Mexico City-based wine importing and distribution company that focuses exclusively on artisanal producers who make terroir-driven wine grounded in tradition. Vinos Enteros counts the top restaurants, hotels and private collectors across the country as clients. Prior to founding Vinos Enteros, Larissa was a management consultant, media strategist and journalist.Larissa is a graduate of Columbia Business School and a certified Italian Wine Ambassador through VinItaly International Academy. She holds WSET Level 3 Advanced Certification and Level 1 Certification through the International Court of Sommeliers. She’s currently pursuing the WSET Level 4 Diploma.  Larissa has been featured on podcasts, articles and panels discussing her point of view on topics as diverse as natural wines, representation of women in the wine industry, differences between wine trends in Mexico and the US and entrepreneurship. She has been invited to compete in international blind wine tasting competitions such as the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup.  She is also a wine educator, having taught the WSET Level 2 course in Mexico.Connect: Facebook: Larissa Lawrence Instagram: www.instagram.com/larissaj_lawrence,  www.instagram.com/vinosenteroscdmx LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/larissa-lawrence-0763166/ Website: www.vinosenteros.mx Guest Bio - Sebastian Van de Sype With a master’s degree in aerospace engineering and a +10 year career in business and F1 engineering, Sebastian is not the typical winemaker that was born into it. It was a conscious choice to embark full-time on this project, together with his spouse, Mary, who is a midwife. The winery started in late 2020, acquiring an organic vineyard in Emilia in the hills around Modena, in Castelvetro, and also making the first vintage. Since then, the winery evolved and recently they inaugurated their own production site. Before starting the winery, Sebastian had been working in the region for two F1 teams and fell in love with the region and its gastronomic opportunities. The Lambrusco wine style was inspiring, especially in terms of growing potential. The spark that ignited the project most probably can be found in his childhood, growing up in a culinary oriented family with the creed “taste thoroughly and choose quality over quantity!”. The continuous search for beauty and quality was in fact an important cornerstone of his education, whether it was in music, sports, study or any other occupation.Connect:Instagram: www.instagram.com/sebastianvandesype_winery LinkedIn: https://it.linkedin.com/in/sebastian-van-de-sype-6488327 Website: www.sebastianvandesype.it _______________________________Let's keep in touch!
