5 - Building the Modern Biomedical Engineering Senior Design Capstone Course with Andrew DiMeo (Part 2)
Andrew DiMeo, PhD, is a Health Innovator, Designer, Entrepreneur, Teacher & Student with roots in New York City's Film Industry and a 20+ year career in medical devices & diagnostics. His startup company, CanvasGT, was acquired by greenlight guru where he works as a product manager on a novel web app enabling meaningful creativity for medtech strategy. Andrew also serves as business advisor to NIH Programs including RADx, C3i, and Blueprint Neuro. As a professor at UNC & NC State, his students’ coursework led to multiple startups including 410-Medical, Contour Surgical, Augment Medical, Novocor Medical Systems, and MEDIC. Other notable experiences include co-founding Gilero, starting nonprofit trade association NCMD, serving as business advisor for the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation's "Coulter College," Director for Duke NeuroInnovations, Coach for Industrial Design Firm Trig, and developing the college course Real Social Change. Andrew joins the show to talk about how he developed the senior design capstone course at UNC and NC State, and one of the first of its kind. He shares his goals for the capstone, the structure, and some stories along the way.

2 - Master's vs. PhD: Reflections on both Paths with Travis McKay and Taylor Gabaldon
Travis McKay and Taylor Gabaldon met each other while pursuing their PhD's in Biomedical Engineering at North Carolina State University. While Travis chose to continue to pursue his PhD, Taylor switched out of the program and got his Master's in Biomedical Engineering. Travis and Taylor each discuss why they chose their path and have a healthy debate: Master's vs. PhD.

Travis McKay's PhD work is focused on biosensors. Before entering his PhD program, he got his Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Taylor Gabaldon is now a Design Engineer at Gilero. At the time of this recording, he worked as a Research & Development Engineer at WellAir. Before his Master's, Taylor got his Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering at the University of New Mexico.

29- Going back to university for your Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. w/ Jordan Joiner
Jordan Joiner received her Bachelors in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Alabama in 2015, and she is currently a 4th year Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. Candidate in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Uniquely, before pursuing her Ph.D., Jordan worked at Evonik, a specialty chemical company, as a Process Engineer for 3 years. On this episode Jordan dives into how she made the decision to go back to university for her Ph.D. after 3 years of working in the industry, and what it's been like along the way. 28- R&D Engineer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals w/ Isabella Watson (+ Engineering Portfolio Example)
Isabella Watson is a 2019 grad of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNC and NC State and is now an R&D Engineer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a global biotechnology company. Before this role, she worked as an R&D Engineer and Field Service Engineer at a smaller company in the biotechnology space, Cell Microsystems.
