149: Navigating Finances and Working Together as a Married Couple with Jordan & Matt Dooley
If you’re married (or about to be) and are considering getting into business with your spouse, you better listen to today’s podcast episode. Today we’re sitting down and talking with our good friends Jordan and Matt Dooley. Jordan Lee Dooley is a National Bestselling Author, Speaker, Founder/CEO of the Own It Academy, and Host of SHE, a top-rated podcast for women. Her trajectory started with a small Etsy shop she started in college, and now her mission is to help women live their purpose and create a livelihood doing what they love so they can leave a legacy. She also sits on the Board of Advisors for Liberty University’s School of Business and has been featured on Forbes, Inc Magazine, SUCCESS Magazine's 30 Under 30 List, and more. Jordan is an Indiana native, an advocate of working in your slippers, and happily married to her college sweetheart, Matt. Speaking of Matt, out of college he was drafted into the NFL for the Steelers. Then 2 weeks before his and Jordan’s wedding, he got dropped from the team. He then started working for a medical company, which he then later quit to work at home with Jordan. For a season he worked with Jordan in her business before eventually splitting off to start his own consulting company. Now they work side by side as work from home entrepreneurs while being crazy in love husband and wife. Today’s conversation is GOOD. We cover everything from the ups and downs of working together, navigating the crazy dynamics of being both married AND business partners, keeping your business relationship separate from your romantic relationship, figuring out each other’s work styles, and so much more. THEN we pivot into talking about finances and navigating the chaos of money and numbers as an entrepreneur AND a couple. It’s a doozy of an episode full of so much wisdom and encouragement for anyone working together as a couple or wanting to in the future. You’ll walk away with loads of encouragement as well as tools, tips, resources, and more. We’re so excited for you to listen to Jordan and Matt and all their wisdom! 147: Finding Inspiration in the Stories of Life with Morgan Harper Nichols
Today’s guest needs no introduction because she’s incredible. When we first started this show back in November 2019, we wrote a list of our dream guests we wanted to interview, this woman’s name was on that list. And here we are. The day has come. Today we had the honor of chatting with Morgan Harper Nichols. Morgan Harper Nichols is a popular Instagram poet and artist who has created her life’s work around the stories of others. Morgan’s Instagram feed has garnered a loyal online community, and she is the author of All Along You Were Blooming, and her recent book How Far You’ve Come. Known for its lyrical tone and vibrant imagery, Morgan’s work is an organic expression of the grace and hope we’ve been given in this world. Morgan has also performed as a vocalist on several GRAMMY-nominated projects and written for various artists, including a Billboard #1 single performed by her sister, Jamie-Grace. Morgan is often on the road creating, teaching, and performing, in hopes of spreading her unique inspirational message and inviting others into her creative process. If you’ve been on Instagram for any amount of time, we can guarantee you’ve seen Morgan’s art and words either on your explore page or shared via a friend. She has such a way with words and art that speaks to people’s souls and makes them feel not alone in whatever they’re going through. We chatted with her today about how she became a writer and artist if she always saw herself pursuing creativity as a career, where she gets her inspiration for her work from, her diagnosis with autism earlier this year, and advice for someone walking through a season of grief or unknown. Her words today will speak so deeply to your heart, inspiring you on your journey in big and beautiful ways. 146: Why “Manifestation” Misses the Mark
We’re getting real. Like very real. We’re going countercultural and speaking some truth that a LOT of people need to hear. We’re talking about manifestation. Especially in the creative entrepreneurship “girl boss” industry you’ve probably heard people use that word a lot. And if not the word manifestation itself, you’ve probably heard words associated with the concept creep into the language people use like “vibes”, “energy”, “universe”, “affirmations”, “vibrations”, “I manifested it,” etc. We have a LOT to say on this topic because honestly, manifestation works. It’s popular because there IS some truth to it. Absolutely. The words and thoughts we speak over ourselves DO have power and they CAN bring about change. Yet there’s a fine line where manifestation is just not it and becomes off base to the Biblical truth God speaks in the Bible. If you’ve listened to any of our past episodes or have followed us for any amount of time, you know we’re speaking to this topic based on our worldview and beliefs based on Scripture. Wonder why we believe manifestation completely misses the mark? Tune in now!
