#88: How to Stay Focused and Move On

In work, in life, as a leader or manager, as a person sometimes things don’t always go our way. And that’s ok. It’s an important life lesson that we can’t always have or get what we want. Usually there are other lessons we learn from these situations too. So today I’m sharing how I try to move on from these occasions and keep focused on my goals. I talk about the importance of learning the lesson and moving on. I share how to put your losses into context against your wins, because your win list is most probably bigger than your losses! I share how to focus on what’s really important. And I also talk about the benefits of the Strengths Deployment Inventory and how it can be used to understand yourself, your team and your motives. “Things come up, things don’t go your way and you just have to move on.” Tara Humphrey   This week on The Business of Healthcare: The importance of learning the lesson and moving on. Putting your losses into context against your wins. How to focus on what’s really important. Ways to understand yourself and your motives. Why you should use the Strengths Deployment Inventory before conflict occurs. #86: A Default Diary and Why you Need One

Today I’m talking about a default diary. If there are tasks you do regularly, for example more than twice, then a default diary can help you do those tasks to their best. In this episode I’m sharing with you what a default diary is and how you can use it. How it can help manage your time so deadlines don’t creep up on you. I share how it can be used to cross-train staff or support capacity issues. And most importantly, I talk about how a default diary will help you move from ‘Oh I’ve got to do this task today!’ to ‘I know this is coming today and I’m going to do it and I’ve got enough time.’ “I’ve got a structure, I look at my diary, I know what I need to do and that frees me up to do other things.” Tara Humphrey   This week on The Business of Healthcare: What a default diary is. How it can help you do tasks to their best. How it will help you manage your time. Other ways you can use the default diary to cross train staff. What will be in your default diary. As a national lockdown was announced over the weekend, this episode takes a look at the value of how we can use what we learnt in the first lockdown and apply those lessons again. Today I’m sharing why it’s important to glance back over crucial lessons learnt. I talk about the importance of managing your energy because, as leaders, we need to be able to look after ourselves in order to look after others. #80: Planning and Patience

Making goals for your work and home life can help give you direction of where you want to go. I’ve always made 12 month goals, but recently I’ve been able to plan further ahead and see the vision of my business for the next 3 years. Today I’m sharing why it’s important to make goals, but also why it’s important to remind yourself of your goals as you go, and to go back and review what you have achieved. I talk about how sometimes when you put the hard work in, you won’t see the fruits of your labour until a few months time, but it will be worth it. I share how it’s important to find the right pace to keep momentum yet maintain it. And finally I talk about the importance of a 3 year vivid vision.   “We’ve always planned for a 12 month cycle and it has worked for us – now it’s – what do the next 3 years look like? And I’m really excited, I’m really motivated.” Tara Humphrey   This week on The Business of Healthcare: Why it’s important to make goals. The importance of reminding yourself of your goals.
