EP98: Freedom from Codependency with Del Adey-Jones

Del grew up in some unusual circumstances and her mind did all that it could to protect her. It did all that it could to heal the hurts of the past, as minds do. As a result, Del was caught up in narcissistic relationships and codependency for many years. Now, she experiences things very, very differently. What she’s been through and how things have changed for her are incredible. Her experience is so hopeful. It points to the fact that we can not be permanently damaged by anything that happens. I can’t wait for you to listen to this remarkable conversation with Del! EP97: Simpler, Not More

Our experience is so much simpler than our minds will ever let us know. It’s so much simpler than our minds are even capable of knowing. When people feel badly, they ask things like: “What am I missing?” “Do I just need to see this more deeply?”“Maybe I don’t really get it?”“Should I listen to more? Listen to less?”It’s actually so much simpler than that, always. It’s not about seeing more, or even seeing deeper. It’s about seeing more simply. EP95: You Have No Personality (and Neither do Serial Killers)

There is no such thing as a mean or evil person. Or a kind person, a funny person, a clumsy person. There are just people–always healthy, always pure, always full of love and connection at their core (yes, even Hitler. Even serial killers), who do unkind things, and also some kind things. No different than any of us. We all do unkind things when we’re hurting, and only when we’re hurting. In this episode, we’ll look at psychological innocence through the lens of personality and character, and vice versa. You’ll hear about a really lovely, kind man who wanted to murder. And a rapist who was a really lovely, kind man.  And we’ll look at how personality and character are like colors. Not anywhere near as discrete as they seem. Here’s a link to Bill Cumming’s Tedx talk mentioned in this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVykjRig5aI The post EP95: You Have No Personality (and Neither do Serial Killers) appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP94: Grief and Death with Giles Croft

Giles’ mum died last month…just a couple weeks before this conversation was recorded. We have a beautiful, respectful but lighthearted look at grief, and talk about:How it’s ok to feel everythingExpectations around death and grieving“Popping straight into gratitude”What is this thing we call “grief” anyway? How to spot whether you’re in denialGrieving for careers, businesses & ways of lifeHow a human life is like a waveHow awesome emotions are at guiding usDeath as a catalystThe pandemic viewed from a different perspectiveI know you’ll love this very honest conversation. I plan on having Giles back in a few months to make sure his experience of grief last month wasn’t just denial Giles is a medical doctor in the UK who now shares this New Paradigm in groups and courses. EP93: Planicking

Planning + Panicking = PlanickingAre you doing it?In this episode, we look at what happens when we plan + panic = planick. But mostly, we look at how incredibly, unbelievably resilient humans are. How amazing it is that we’re making it through each day as well as we are. How we’re doing perhaps better having this thrust upon on with almost no warning, compared to how it may have gone had we had a lot of time to think, and plan and likely planick about it. You can’t plan much right now, and you don’t have to planick. Life is moving you through this moment to moment, as it always has been. The post EP93: Planicking appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP92: Holly’s Change Story: The End of Dieting and the Beginning of So Much More

Holly thought weight issues were encoded in her DNA. She was a person with food issues, period. There was no other possibility in her mind. She was born with food issues just like she was born with blue eyes. It was her cross to bear. Finding new ways to bear that cross was as good as it could get. From that way of seeing things, she tried every diet and control strategy there was, including weight loss surgery. As Holly has been waking up to the fact that she is not a person with deep, fundamental weight problems, nothing much has changed but everything is different. Holly has lost some weight which of course, is nothing new for her. But what is different is that she’s not trying. She’s not on a diet. She has no grand plan. She’s not controlling everything, but she’s not acting on autopilot either. She’s living her life without food or weight loss at the center of it.Holly writes a popular blog where she’s shared her weight loss journey for years. Now she’s sharing this understanding there from time to time and helping others. Enjoy this episode with Holly! EP91: Balance

“The pursuit of balance can create imbalance because sometimes something is true.” –Daniel OkrentIt always sounds funny to me when people talk about achieving balance. Or striving for balance. Or working on, or toward, balance.Balance is our nature. It is default. We don’t work toward what’s default. We stop working and find ourselves there. We don’t achieve what’s natural. We stop doing so much and poof–there we are. Balance is right under our noses. It’s amazing what we can see when we stop looking for it. The post EP91: Balance appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP90: Lucy’s Change Story: Drinking

Fairly recently, Lucy decided to experiment with drinking less. She didn’t quit. She experimented. She became curious and watched what happened as she didn’t drink one time. And then another time. And then another time. She watched what happened as she came up against situations where drinking was the norm. There were a lot of them. She let herself feel anxious and out of sorts. And she still didn’t drink. She asked for support and watched in amazement as she received it.Lucy has been around this New Paradigm for many years. I absolutely love hearing what this type of experimenting has opened up for her around drinking. There’s so much to hear in this episode around change of any kind. Here is the link to Lucy’s 30 alcohol experiment: https://www.dare2bu.co.uk/sober30daysThe post EP90: Lucy’s Change Story: Drinking  appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.
