EP233: Desire, Fulfillment and Energy
Desire and fulfillment have a bad reputation in spirituality. They are associated with ego, attachment, and suffering. But what if the opposite is true? What if desire and our feelings of personal fulfillment are the way life expresses itself uniquely through us?What if they are our guides, naturally leading us to follow the energy of what wants to happen? In that way, they aren’t ego-based at all. They are just the opposite, in fact. ***Next week, on January 10-12, I’m leading a totally free 3-part class called Welcoming What Arises. There is tremendous freedom in welcoming anything that arises. EP231: A coaching session (sort of) about getting stuff done
JoJo had a self-proclaimed, longtime issue around making progress in her business. She’d know what she wanted to do, she’d sit down to do it, and she’d become easily overwhelmed. The thing would not get done. She felt more victimized by this overwhelm each time this happened. An interesting thing happened, though. She volunteered to be coached around this, I said yes, and we scheduled our session for a week or two out. From the time she volunteered to the time we spoke (which you’ll hear in this episode), things had really shifted for her. This overwhelm looked more like something that simply arose. It looked less personal and powerful. JoJo was actually taking more action than she had been.Awesome! All of this to say, this isn’t exactly a coaching session because she really didn’t need much coaching. My role was more like helping her ground in what she was already seeing and experiencing. While this is not much of a coaching session, it is an excellent conversation as JoJo shares how things have shifted for her. This conversation will be just as helpful for anyone feeling similar resistance or overwhelm. There is so much to see in what JoJo shares. The post EP231: A coaching session (sort of) about getting stuff done appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP230: Life after alcohol with Jim Hobbs
Drinking was part of Jim’s life and identity for several decades. From his first drink as a teenager, it was something he associated with feeling like himself and having fun. It seemed fun until it didn’t anymore; then, it threatened his health, peace of mind, and his most important relationships. Jim stopped drinking 5 years ago and his life has opened up in amazing, unexpected ways.Jim talks about how drinking serves a purpose at a particular time, but that it’s often time to quit when the pain becomes bigger than the benefit. He shares how quitting means we’re faced with the reasons we drank. Jim talks about feeling discomfort and how connection with others and with our spiritual essence is what gets us through.Jim talks about how we can’t possibly imagine life as a non-drinker when we’re a drinker. He talks about the grief we can face when we leave this identity behind, and he stresses the importance of our connection to our essence as the way through anything in life. There is so much that’s incredibly helpful in this conversation with Jim Hobbs. Bonus Episode: A coaching session on needing a food plan
Suzanne went through LSBC in Spring 2020. During and immediately following the course, her longtime bulimia habit was nonexistent. This freedom lasted for a couple months. Then one day, as often happens, she experienced some old habitual thoughts and did some old habitual behaviors. At that moment, Suzanne thought “I guess LSBC didn’t work” and she swung in the direction of coping with food addiction, following strict food plans for the past 2.5 years…with little success and very little freedom. This conversation highlights how a mind makes up how our change should look…and how wrong it is. It also shows how messy the process of eating can be when one has been handing that process over to rules and plans for a long time. If you haven’t listened to EP229 with Kristina Bruce, I highly recommend listening to that one along with this one. That episode will help shed light on how Suzanne’s desire to control her eating is the one and only thing in the way. EP229: Ending the war with your body with Kristina Bruce
Kristina Bruce can help you stop hating your body. She helps people see that their body is not the problem…their conditioning is. Kristina says, “Please realize that the amount of conditioning you have experienced to hate fat is the cause of so much dislike about your body, not your body itself.”YES. In this conversation, Kristina shares how she went from trying to micromanage her body size and the pain that caused, and how she has come to feel at peace with her body at the size it wants to be. We discuss the cycle of positive attention and approval due to weight loss to feeling like a slave trying to maintain that weight loss. When the pain of this cycle is great enough, we may look toward acceptance and finally leave dieting and judgment aside. We talk about the very messy, emotional process of stopping dieting and how, on the other side of that messiness, is enormous freedom. We talk about the misunderstanding that there is a causal relationship between weight and health, and so much more.Kristina’s passion for, and knowledge about, this topic shines through the minute she starts talking. If you feel anything less than complete peace with your body, please tune into this episode. You won’t be sorry. You can learn more about Kristina at https://www.kristinabruce.com and on Instagram @kristinabrucecoach The post EP229: Ending the war with your body with Kristina Bruce appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP228: A coaching session on why this message hasn’t gone beyond the intellectual
Euan reached out to have this conversation because, despite years of exploring a variety of spiritual topics and practices, he says it has only landed intellectually. As a result, he has a terrible feeling that he’ll spend the rest of his life with his thoughts getting in the way, missing what could have been. This conversation highlights so perfectly how a mind loves to spin on concepts and expectations as a distraction from This. A way to keep us listening to it, rather than feeling life as it is arising. There is no conceptual insight or solution that will bring us closer to life. Life, this, here, now is the closest we can get. This is what we’re looking for. If you are a regular listener of this podcast or a LSBC graduate, you know how common this question is. I’m very grateful to Euan for having such an honest, open talk that I know will resonate with many of you.***Your chance to get The Little School of Big Change Self-Study Course for a full $200 less than it’s ever been offered ends TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 29. EP227: The Magic of Surrender with Kute Blackson
My guest in today’s episode is bestselling author and speaker Kute Blackson. Kute says surrender is a shift from ego to soul. He talks about us going from “What do I want?” to “What does the universe want to express through me?” (or what I often ask, “What wants to happen?”)We talk about misconceptions around the idea of surrender, particularly that it means we’re giving up on our desires or that surrender will turn us into a doormat. Kute shares the beautiful story of his mother’s surrender–and his surrender, as well–around his mother’s death from cancer. That experience allowed them to have a closeness and deep peace at the end of her life that they couldn’t have otherwise had. Whether you’re a fan of Kute’s already, or this is the first time you’re meeting him, I think you’ll love this conversation. You can find Kute on Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/kuteblackson and his latest book, The Magic of Surrender, here https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Surrender-Finding-Courage-Let/dp/B08MWVKQ4M***Your chance to get The Little School of Big Change Self-Study Course for a full $200 less than it’s ever been offered, happens from Tuesday, November 22 until Tuesday, November 29. EP226: A coaching session on irrational thoughts and the urge to overexercise
Betty has urges to stay constantly moving. She believes that if she stops for too long, her metabolism will plummet and bad things will happen. As we discuss in this coaching session, Betty knows this is irrational, but this is the story her mind tells.Bigger even than the story her mind tells is the discomfort that arises when Betty stops moving. We look at the way her mind tries to keep her roped into an uncomfortable but irrational story and the feelings that constant movement appears to keep at bay. If you have any habit, anxiety, or you want to see through your mind’s compelling stories, you’ll benefit so much from this coaching session with Betty. ***Your chance to get The Little School of Big Change Self-Study Course for a full $200 less than it’s ever been offered, happens from Tuesday, November 22 until Tuesday, November 29. EP225: When a breakdown is a new beginning with Alex Manzi
Alex Manzi had a breakdown of sorts several years ago that turned the tide of his life in a very different direction. Alex and I talk about the (invisible) line between psychology and spirituality, why he likes to write his name in inverted commas, and much more.
