Trump’s GOP allies in the House are weaponizing an impeachment inquiry. Without any proof of wrongdoing, it seems clear this is an attempt to destroy Trump’s political opponent. A ruling by a federal judge this week puts DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) at risk. The federal policy prevents immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation. The judge sided with nine states suing to stop DACA setting up another expected appeal to the US Supreme Court. We’ll ask former federal prosecutor David Katz about these stories and more. Among those who appear to have benefitted from the Supreme Court’s Citizen United ruling, which eased campaign spending rules and allowed anonymous donor money to go to nonprofit groups run by political activists, Ginni Thomas and her buddy Leonard Leo. Politico reports Ginni Thomas and Leonard Leo wanted to be the leaders of a conservative movement that funded a billion-dollar network of tax-exempt charities and social welfare organizations to allegedly benefit their friends and themselves.Former Trump, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has been trying to get his trial moved from Georgia state court to federal court. He is now asking a judge to pause the order denying the move to federal court. Why? Apparently Meadows is afraid that he could be convicted and incarcerated before an appeal to this case is even heard. We’ll talk to Gil Gross about these stories and the temporary ban on openly carrying guns in Albequerque, New Mexico. It is 9/11. Now, 22 years later, we remember. A new poll finds a majority of voters do not favor giving cash payments as reparations to African Americans. According to the LA Times, voters seem to think “it’s unfair to ask today’s taxpayers to pay for wrongs committed in the past,” and “it’s not fair to single out one group for reparations when other racial and religious groups have been wronged in the past.” We will look at the numbers and discuss.
